PS4 vs Xbox One in the US – VGChartz Gap Charts – October 2017 Update

In October 2017 the gap in the US between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One grew in favor of the PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 4 sold 67,751 more units than the Xbox One in the last month. The PlayStation 4 sold 1.34 million more units in the last year. The PlayStation 4 currently leads by 2.90 million units.

The PlayStation 4 launched in the US on November 15, 2013, while the Xbox One launched on November 22, 2013. The PlayStation 4 has sold 20.37 Million units, while the Xbox One has sold 17.47 million units.

Xbox 2 won’t do anything. They need better games including putting focus on great single player games. They also need to bring exclusives back. Then the 3 stooges need to be replaced. Then Xbox might have a fighting chance.

They're in a bit of an odd predicament. If they release it at the same time as ps5, it'll be a mere 2, possibly 3 years after the X was released. Not only is that too soon for most people, the gap in power will be smaller than that of PS4 and PS5. Furthermore, if they release it a year after PS5, they're also screwed because PS5 will have so much momentum with a year free of any competition.

Of course this doesn't take into account that MS strategy has changed and it's no longer about just consoles. But I'm glad to see both have grown and their will be some awesome games for both systems this coming year.

It will be interesting to see what happens going forward but Microsoft know that making games on pc and xbox is the better way to make $ than just on the xbox. I know we don't get sales numbers any more but ide love to know how many gamers got games like gears, forza hz and ms on pc and on xbox. I also wonder how long it will be until big 3rd party games like fifa, COD become cross play with the 2 and it will be then interesting to see how that one plays out. As for the PS4 selling well in the US its great news as it shows how far sony have come sine the ps3. Also looks like the switch is selling well and if there is only a few million between all 3 in the USA this is great for Gaming in general.

Haha thanks for me I don't follow one console I support them all this is the 1st gen I've not owned all the consoles since the NES days as I just don't have the same time to play them and went for xbox and switch this time round but all 3 have must own games and for me I could not think of any 3 company's better placed to push the games industry on.

Not really, the 360 launched a year earlier, that's what allowed it to build such a lead. Having an early lead makes a big difference because people tend to buy what their friends buy. Without that advantage, it was always doomed to be in second place.

PS3 sold 86.90 million units globally where the XB360 sold 85.80 units globally.Very close but the PS3 outsold the XB360 by over a million+ units.No domination last gen.Though the PS4 is dominating this gen fiercely! Sad.

You should consider the fact that the ps3 was on the market for one year less in NA and one and a half years less in the EU then the 360.
So call it what you will but the ps3 sold more units then the 360 in a shorter period.

I’m talking about in its first 5 years. Xbox sells only in North America for the most part and some Europe. PS sells in many countries. It was complete domination in that sense.

No, what is sad is you do think that the huge growth in Sony’s sales has anything to do with Sony fans. They already owned and will only own Sony, pc, or Nintendo...
The numbers are beyond great because a lot of Xbox gamers that were not happy with the lack of games and all the lies Microsoft threw around trying to sugar coat their monopoly tactics.

But it didn't dominate last gen, PS3 ended up selling more in the end, despite being over priced, releasing a year later, and being notorious difficult to develop for, even after all of this it STILL beat Xbox.
