the resurrection of Nintendo in the gaming market is timely. now that the Xbox brand is fading into obscurity after the failure of their last desperate shot, the danger was Sony could succumb to hubris and shift to coast mode. now they cant afford to do that.

Nintendo are not just back, they are in their best form since the SNES, so Sony need to up their game more. need more games that are for younger teens and kids(no Knack please). it's a good time to bring back the Jak franchise.

- GTA5, a game from last generation is still charting, Rockstar can just retire already and money will keep coming.

Sony must stay alert and competitive. Simply coasting or even getting arrogant on their success will hurt them in the future. It happened with the ps3, it can happen again.

They need to pay attention to Nintendo and MS(look away on the GaaS part though).

That said, why wont Sony form a studio that makes kid-friendly games only is beyond me... They can hire proven tallent in that business (I imagine Nintendo has many former and current devs looking for jobs in Japan). I went and looked up the numbers, and NPD reports that there are two exclusive games in the top 10 for most games sold YTD. Zelda:BOTW, and Horizon:Zero Dawn. MK8 is on there too, so actually three.

The numbers I seen from the UK are devastatingly low like literally Doom sold 3500 units. I read that Skyrim VR outsold the switch version by a huge amount.

I expected this because this is exactly what we saw from the Wii in the Wii U there is just not an audience for these type of games on this system and anyone who has a huge fan of the series clearly will already be buying them somewhere else or has already played them I mean people need to consider how many people were fans of Elder Scrolls series really don't own Skyrim?

I believe they're going to get good third-party support as all of Nintendo handheld have received strong support from Japan I mean look at Capcom with Street Fighter 2 and look at them bringing over Resident Evil and Square Enix with Dragon Quest.

So the way I'm seeing this is I believe it's going to receive just as good support as you saw from the 3DS but I also believe it is not going to continue to receive top AAA third-party support from Western developers of games like this.

Part of me sees it as clearly Nintendo fans are not buying these games but another part of me sees it as a possibility that the majority of people who might own a Nintendo switch might also own another platform anyway they might have given up long ago ever having a Nintendo system as the only means of gaming you can only spend so many generations missing a laundry list of series before it becomes obvious that you cannot do this type of setup.

So we would basically be like saying I enjoyed Mass Effect 3 I better wait several generations to play another Mass Effect game or I enjoyed those two Assassin's Creed games I better wait several Generations before I play another one let's be honest who on Earth is really going to be gaming this way?

So I can't really blame the audience because it's very likely that they're not purchasing it because they don't like the game but simply because they likely already purchased it somewhere else.

The way I see it is I'm going to buy a Nintendo switch and I literally have zero intentions of buying anything on the Nintendo switch that I already own somewhere else but the exception of maybe one or two games, not because I hate those series by the way but because I already own doom on the PlayStation 4 it would just make no sense to purchase some of these games and they're the worst versions.

I completely understand why many of these Nintendo gamers are not buying these versions it's either because they're the worst or they don't know the series or if they even do like the series they're buying it somewhere else. That install base is pretty much just dead on that platform and just exist on Playstation Xbox and PC.

I mean seriously guys let's be honest that is the only three platforms you're going to see the sequels to those games release on basically almost 100% guaranteed day of release.

I actually believe it's because people were fans of Nintendo systems might also have already moved on to other platforms and accept that they're only buy Nintendo systems for those specific Nintendo published games.

Put it this way you might have been a fan of Metal Gear Solid Final Fantasy Devil May Cry Resident Evil or multiple series that just never made their way on Nintendo systems or not enough entries made their way on Nintendo systems for you to really justify ONLY owning a Nintendo.

So over the generations you probably saw consumers purchasing a PlayStation or an Xbox along with a 3DS or Wii U etc just because they like Nintendo doesn't mean they're going to stop liking those other Series so for some of them it probably became very obvious that they could not really only own one system and play all of their favorite games.

I want you to also consider that PC PlayStation and Xbox are pretty much 99.9% guaranteed to get Elder Scrolls 6 launch day without any compromise, how many fans of the games you really believe are not going to buy it at launch but instead wait to pick it up with missing features and downgraded the Next Generation on Switch 2?

You need to understand that to even wait to play the game is to actually suggest you're a bigger fan of the hardware then you are the actual game itself.

Gamers follow the software, the hardware it's playing on for the most part is actually irrelevant.

I mean put this into perspective I'm buying a Nintendo switch because shin Megami tensei 4 was on the 3DS thus it was logical shin Megami tensei 5 would probably be on the switch with it being a portable no different than me waiting for Bravely Default the Third...

So I could wait for some magical PlayStation 4 port or I could actually play the damn game that I like.

Soooo it would be nice for a port.

I'm a gamer first and foremost and I'm going to play the damn game series that I like as opposed to sitting down and waiting for it to appear somewhere else because it just doesn't make any sense.

Consider that is how some of those Nintendo Gamers feel when they're buying a PlayStation or an Xbox for their favorite series. They're not going to wait for years for the possibility of nothing happening. By that logic somebody has been denying themselves Final Fantasy For almost 20 years waiting for it to appear on a Nintendo system.

From the sounds of it it sounds like that person is a bigger fan of Nintendo systems than they actually are games themselves. 😎

So I kinda answered my own question. Microsoft hasn't won a month since October 2016. Also worth noting for the year of 2017 there has been a ps4 game in the overall charts every month it seems prior to this month, so maybe they don't matter all year but most the year is still fine.

Yeah, there are some articles that took NPD's analysis to mean that MS won. But the actual sales numbers are in favor of PS. But if you look at it, it means Sony also won every month up until now if we're going by revenue, because outside the first year, PS4 has always cost more than the X1....usually by as much as $100-150. Sony took a while to start dropping the price of the PS4.

I can understand, if there´s 1x game taking the same spot on both machines (usually 1st), but how is it that both platforms, both communities around 90mill. total BOUGHT the same 8 games AND have them listed in the same order from 1 to 8th place?! IF Forza 7 was on the PS4, it prolly would have been 9th as well .. seriously though :

How is that remotely possible? While on the XB it takes less ppl (due their install base being smaller) to have lets say Fifa 2018 on 6th, on the PS4 it takes considerably few more souls to reach 6th place, due having more to choose from or simply because there are more folks on PS4 (or even less due the sheer number of PS4 players).

It is just so strange to see first 8 placed games in the same order on both machines, with such disparity in their playerbase.

its really not that strange, these two consoles are nearly identical in software lineup other than a few exclusives on both.

It's strange, because NPD numbers alone suggest that Horizon should be up there, and based on the sales reports I've seen, Wolfenstein wouldn't have outsold Horizon on PS4 alone.

Would help to know the source for this list, as it just seems like a random list with no citation.

Otherwise, it's not uncommon for the lists between consoles to share a lot of the top spots with the same games, and typically it's what happens. Sometimes one or two games will supplant another, or an exclusive will occasionally take one of those spots to shift other things down.

There goes the narrative that people will buy the console with the best versions of the multiplats. PS4 won November. The fact is most want am affordable consoles that does things really well across the board. Good third party support, good exclusives, good services all for a great price. PS4 hits all the wickets.

It actually isn't unreasonable to believe that people will buy the console that'll allow the best multi-plats. However, in this case, the cost to get the best multi-plats would be $500. This is to a group of gamers who likely already have a console this gen, so they either already have a PS4 if that's important to them, or upgraded to a PS4P, or find what they have good enough in the face of putting out another $500 with only a few years likely left in the generation.

I have it for the PS4PRO its way better than Infinite Warfare the only thing I don't like is the way you have to sign in when I play multiplayer with friends that are over it goes from my account to their account when back to mine. On the second controller while playing multiplayer on the second controller you can't access supply drops. :\

I got about 2 hrs into CoD WWII and lost interest. It feels like the same game as the original COD titles, before the MW series started. COD hasn't been good in years, same thing over an over. Got bored really fast.
