Detroit Become Human is currently under fire for its portrayal of domestic abuse, but here's why PSU thinks video games should embrace controversial topics.
Quantic Dream has sent Gamereactor a press release stating that Detroit: Become Human now has sold more than 2,5 million copies on PC, making it surpass 8 million across all platforms.
That's great. Quantic Dream took everything they learned from their past games and built the most refined, coherent and interesting game and story yet. I even bought it on both PS4 and PC.

PSU writes: "Detroit: Become Human has surpassed 6.5 million units sold, between both PS4 and PC, after hitting the six million mark last July."
Nice. This is a must play and by far the best of QD’s titles (although I have huge love for Heavy Rain).
To this day, I am still very surprised that Sony did not buy Quantic. Especially after the HR, Beyond and Detroit era. Perhaps they tried but weren’t successful.
And now they’re off making multi-plats. Interested to see how their new title is.
It needs to be done well and so far David Cage has yet proven he is good at making well written stories.
After the torture scene is GTA 5 and the Saw video games.
This should not be an issue.
One organization not understanding a medium =/= controversy, also it's not using child abuse as a marketing ploy, it's a plot element, an essential part of the story. Why is it perfectly ok for any other medium to use this subject and most times even be praised for it, but when a game does it "OH! you're just objectifying abuse for merketing!! no way video games can cover serious and sensitive subjects. they're just for kids!" i hate when people who have no idea on a subject pokes their nose where it doens't belong.
You know what? i've been through some very rough times like anyone else, and quite a few times games have helped me get through those times by including very relate able parts. One such example is when my grandmother passed, we were very close and i was stuck in depression. During that time i started playing through Severed, and it hit REALLY close to home, and eh melancholy ending of it all just forced me to contemplate how life just has to go on and there's really nothing you can do to change what happened. OH! But nope, it was just using death as a marketing ploy!
So let me get this straight, its ok for films, tv shows, songs and books to tackle sensitive issues but For games it's off limits.
This is ridiculous it's part of the narrative and from what I've seen it's handled very well.
I swear almost everyday someone is offended or has to find something to rage against!
I don't see how its a bad thing to portray domestic abuse. If anything it might help abused kids and teens who play the game who don't have their own Kara to protect them IRL. They can escape to a world where they do have someone there to help them through it.
