Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Xbox One X vs PC graphics comparison will blow you away

YouTuber DEE BATCH loaded Star Wars: Battlefront 2 up on the Xbox One X and PC in 4K and the results are pretty stunning. The PC is running in 4K with ultra setting on and using a Vega 64 graphics card and the Xbox One X is running in 4K.

Xbox One X version is pretty close but not better than the PC version, theres draw in and the shadows aren't as good as the PC version and the frame rate is probably better on PC, more consistent. For a five hundred dollar machine the game looks pretty darn good though. I have a really good PC but I may buy this game for Xbox One X.

Have to say I'm enjoying my Xbox One X, the improvements to 360 games alone are crazy good let alone what it does for xbox One games, for me it is well worth it. The improved user interface on Xbox One Is great also. Microsoft are making good steps toward making Xbox better, but they still need to improve in some other areas.

Wouldn't this comparison have more to do with the game itself, rather than the hardware it's running on? I mean, if you optimize the game to have a "max setting" - where such a setting 'X' is capped at using a certain amount of resources - then how do you compare the actual raw horsepower of the devices outside of the "max setting"?

If a PC has a higher clock speed on the CPU/GPU, more memory and storage than the XBOX One X, then clearly the PC is going to be more powerful than the console, but that doesn't mean you'll see this performance difference if the program you're running it on cannot take advantage of it.

Running an actual stress test using the same program (such as 'Heaven Benchmark') would be a far greater test of the devices' capabilities.

I can tell, although youtube compression never helps here with smaller details. PC is running higher settings going off the game play portions. Higher quality motion blur. Looks like slightly better ambient occlusion quality, but it's difficult to confirm on the variety of (or lack thereof) footage here. It also has better specular mapping seen in the reflected lights. You can see this on the shiny floors indoors and the weapons outside.

Most prominently it has waaaaaaaaaaaaay less detail pop in and better shadow quality that resolves further away. You easily notice this in the forest section where the console version has notable texture pop in quite close up. PC clearly has a lot more texture filtering as seen on the leafy floors of the forest, detail is retained much further away.

From about 6:47 look at the floor and foliage as you walk towards it on X1X, then compare to the PC version. Even with this video compression you can see it resolving in slowly on the console version but it's all there on PC.

Look at 7:24 the rocks on the left for further evidence, all the detail pops in suddenly around 7:29 on X1X.

I really wouldn't know what settings X1X compares to, but it's not the highest on PC shown here. Whether it actually manages native 4K resolution on X!X, the compression makes it impossible to say. Have to wait for a comparison from Digital Foundry for further information on that.

Right, I just watched it on a decent 4K screen again and even with the youtube video compression the X1X version does not look native 4K in the more demanding outdoor scenes. It's a ways below that.

The game must use a dynamic resolution like the other console versions, and not always be hitting native 4K. Whereas the PC version is always native 4K as far as I saw.

This is eyes on a youtube video, but I'm confident of my eyes! If I can see it in a youtube video, it'll only be more obvious in front of you.

You have to skip the cutscenes and go to the game play, especially outdoors where most of the game is played. It's easy to see quite noticeable things then. As soon as I saw it on a 4K screen it was also clear it's not native 4K on X1X in those woodlands. Dynamic resolution. Most likely 1800p or so, maybe a bit less.

So probably somewhat below max PC settings and around 70 percent of native 4K resolution.

No i´m not. Didn´t say nothing about exclusives. I said i´m done with PC gaming! I have a respectable collection of games on my steam library and physical copies of PC games. I´m a old gamer and been gaming on PC since the Wing Commander days. And that´s one of the reasons i´ve stick with the PC for so long. Been waiting for Star Citizen for too long till i had enough. By the time that game actually sees a official release date (if ever) the consoles will be more than capable to run that game with max settings.

So yeah, i´m better off without PC gaming in my life. I´ll be missing on AoE, Divinity II and a few others PC exclusives that i liked and that´s unfortunate, but; as a multi console owner, i got too many games on my "backlog" as it is. If you´re a PC gamer, more power to you.

In the article, a ResetEra user did a rough spec of the YouTuber's PC and revealed that the $500 Xbox One X is likely keeping up with a $1,400 PC. The X is just Beastly powerful and cost almost $1000 less for almost the same performance as a expensive Giant PC.

So are console these days ... i can stream via one button click (you pc can´t), we can edit videos onthe fly (albeit not as good as with NLE on PC), we can stream anything, we can listen to music since the PS1 days. We can surf the web for fun, we "were allowed" to use our console as PC (like the PS2) and have both environments.

What we can not do, is install steam and play all those shitty-greenlit-scamware F2P crap that´s filling up the store. Oh and we can not use excel, but who cares about that. In theory a console user could do anything a PC could, if let´s say Sony allowed us to install a Linux onto our PS4 (like some did and have installed steam onto it).

Well, there is HDR on PC, you all are thinking of the monitor support for it.. Plug a High end PC up to a HDR 4K tv, HDR available..:) Forza Motorsport 7, Assassins Creed OG, Gears 4, Destiny 2, and Battlefront 2 all support HDR for PC.. But I agree, $500 is an unbeatable price for high end performance ( mostly Ultra settings @60fps)

What makes you think you need to have a 1400 dollar PC to run this the way an Xbox one x does? answer this what frame rates are both these video games running at. If the Xbox runs at 30 and the PC at 60 then you can shoose cheaper hardware to compare the 2 platforms as it is there are current videos of PCs built between 500-750 dollars for 4k 30 frames with medium to ultra graphics settings. That is ultimately the issue I would argue with this article there is not enough info to make an informed decision.

Taking the time to optimize the game for what it is being released on plays a big part. Full optimization on pc video cards will probably never happen since new ones are constantly being released...which is a shame because full optimization of any of the newer gpu's out there would be something to see I'm sure!

1. You don't need a Vega 64 to get the same settings the Xbox is playing at.
3. You can't compare the PC at "Max" to the X1X, it isn't fair either way. We don't know what tweaks have been given to the X1X version, but you can see minor graphics differences in the video.
3. You don't have Dynamic Resolution scaling on the PC version (last I checked).
The X1X is a fine piece of hardware, but if you have to lie or make misleading comparisons for the ill informed, then you are losing the argument.

So I have a few issues with this. So far the X Box One X looks decent for its price however their still remains a few questions with this.
1. Other cards and setups other than what is configured here should be tested. Escpecially now that prices on Vega are over inflated due to miners drying up supply

3. PCs use a wide range of settings for Graphics consoles use only one. The issue with this is that it would not be easy to determine what PC settings would be used to determine a like comparison with consoles ultimately making this test poor for determining price per performance.

5. An XboxOne X running like a 1400 dollar PC requires evidence not a citation of authority. Would be interesting if that was the case

Ultimately the Xbox One X is looking great might pick one up as I just sold my One S but that as for what this video proves. It ultimately proves little to nothing except that Xbox One X can run the game.
