Is the Xbox One Even in the Race This Holiday Season?

This holiday season will be a difficult time for Microsoft. They might have the great hardware but without the games, they won’t be seeing as many sales as the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Is the powerful machine which is the Xbox One X going to be enough to save Microsoft? That’s difficult to say but in reality, probably not.

I can see Nintendo doing really well this holiday. Perhaps better than Sony and MS in terms of both hardware and software sales. Switch is a hot item and Mario Odyssey seems to be the hot piece of software to go along with it.

Yeah, but with Sony having the marketing rights to both CoD and BF2, as well multiple LE console bundles, that’s definitely going to play out in their favor with a lot of people buying those games. We can’t ignore that even at its worst, CoD still manages to be the best selling game each year, and this year’s CoD is looking to be one of the better selling ones. I don’t even have to mention how many people are going to gobble up those BF2 bundles, with the new movie releasing.

I'd say they are definitely in the race. Software is exciting, but so is new hardware. I'm expecting Xbox to finish behind the competition though.

If we look at it another way, Xbox One X is like a new generation sharing software with the old hardware. Insofar as exclusives, pickings are slim. The fact that most people have friends with PS4 makes that option low hanging fruit, but that also means room for expansion is smaller.

Honestly, I think it all depends on what kind of sales we see. I'm personally rooting for Nintendo during the holiday. Very excited to play SMO and Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

I don't know about room for expansion being an issue for PS4 this year. There were over 160 million consoles sold last gen. We already know a much larger portion have chosen PS4 this gen and that effect is likely to snowball as casuals are tempted away from their PS3 or 360 by price drops of current generation.

This is also why XboneX can't tap into that casual market in any meaningful way at launch - it will likely be 500 versus 300 by the time XBoneX launches.

I hear the argument a lot that there’s no games for the Xbox, but surely all the multi plats will now in theory play better on the X than they will on the pro providing they have developer support! So while yes there is a major lack of exclusives the X should have the definitive console version of said game so there will be plenty to play.

Don’t get me wrong I have a Pro and overall I prefer the PlayStation to Xbox but that hasn’t stopped me pre ordering the Scorpio edition.

Honestly, probably not.
Though I do wish them the best of luck in at least making some satisfactory sales, I think it's been proven by now that slapping power into everything isn't all there is to making a system sell well.

You've got to maintain a balance between power, good advertisement/meaningful introduction, and price, while keeping exclusive game support in mind.

The XB1X, IMO, seems to have thrown away regard for the latter three, in exchange for a focus on the former first.
That's not really a winning combo. Heck, it's not really a combo at all.

For me there are only two consoles worth having this holiday. The XB1X and Switch.

The XB1X is for playing the best games possible on your TV/4K TV. Cuphead, FM7, Assassin's Creed Origin, Battlefront 2 to named a few that are must-have games this Fall and are best played on the XB1X.

The Nintendo Switch served a nice alternative to the most powerful home console next to your TV. It is a portable system, play Nintendo exclusives and games like Minecraft, Rocket League and more can be cross play with the XB1X. The perfect combo.

I think Xbone will stay in its 3rd place, not out of the race but in last place. As i said, in the holidays the main buyers of the XboneX will be MS fans: spike in sales in the moment they "change" their system (shouting how well the Xbonex is selling) to fall short after. Normal buyers that want something original will get a Switch. Others will go for cheaper better solutions like normal S/Ps4 + games. Or PS4 with lot of games to choose among. And a lot of people don't have a 4K TV, some of them don't even care.

I thought they shared the same games as the other two besides the very few exclusives that dont even come close to the amount of 3rd party games ready for play on the console along with windows/xbox exclusive games and bc games you already own. PC destroys all comp when it comes to amount of games, graphics ,freedom and controls only thing consoles win in is friends, better optimization,little to no problems booting a game a No ctrl alt dlt crap just to exit a game that wont let you lol. I prefer PC because I like to tailor my games to what it can handle. But I dont see a mass majority of casuals looking to put up with the minor hassels of pc gaming.Consoles are mainly geared towards the casual market
