They could have made it look like Shenmue 2 and i would still be happy. The people that are so heavily critical need to remember where we were before E3 2015. Shenmue was dead, pretty much everyone had given up hope of ever seeing the continuation of the story, so to be getting the game at all is a gaming miracle.

They need to take budget into consideration too, if people are expecting this game to look like other big budget AAA games then their expectations are way too high. It's a Kickstarter funded game, the game not looking like AAA games should be expected.

For a teaser, i am more than happy with that.

Halo 4 on the 360 had a budget close to or more than $100m. Shenmue has a budget of around $6.5m. Try and keep things in perspective at least.

The graphics and art style are really good! I'll agree the facial animations are only 50% there, but everything else looks amazing. Hopefully it progresses well in the next year or so.

I agree with most everything your saying and while it is true this game is lower budget than most triple A games it is not solely funded by kickstarter. They have been very open about receiving outside funding for the game as well

Ryo and all the other characters look kind of horrifying with that plastic skin texture. I'm sure they'll improve the character design by launch but as of now, it looks kind of crap. That said, the world looks great.

Hopefully people will understand that this is a game of a past era and not compare it to the latest AAA titles such as Horizon, God Of War etc. The game is looking unbelievable for it's purpose and those facial animations have almost more than a year to be fixed. I'm more than optimistic that it will be the best Shenmue when it finally releases. Graphically looks phenomenal.

Much like Crackdown 3, this game is using an artstyle simmilar to the other games. In modern times people can be quite harsh on it as we've seen the past few months, even though they may play the same. I've never played shenmu, will wait to see if I'll give it a go

If people knew anything about Shenmue then they would know that the facial expressions were always very limited anyway. Ryo had that frown and stare throughout pretty much every moment in the first two Shenmue games, the same goes for most characters. And no, this wasn't because of limitations at the time, it was because the games characters were designed that way. If they changed that part of Ryo's personality now then he would be like a totally different character.

The problem is it absolutely will be compared to recent games! I absolutely adored Shenmue 1 & 2 and at the time they were remarkable, but if they have the same sort of combat mechanics etc now it'll have a bad time.

I'm really not trying to be pessimistic to get an argument going, I am just very wary of getting my hopes up. I think you have accurately described it, it will likely play like the previous games and personally, I don't think I can commit to that, I would rather watch a video on the story!

I spent over a decade in that community. I joined years after I first played the game. It's to this day the only fan community I was ever part of because at one time I adored this series. Those fans are seriously mental. Posting pictures of poop porn, hacking other websites of the same community. Hijacking others. Mods who are insane. I saw someone banned because they politely had a concern with one of the Shenmue characters. Others for less than that. They like to choose one person a year to bully it seemed and at the end of the year award them with shame. They bullied many people off the place. I only was part of 2 of these fans forums and their Facebook 500K. Facebook one they were the whiney ones and constantly whining about Jeff Gerstmann. The 2 forums were nuts. I have never seen so much toxicity somewhere. not even N4G or Gaf. They were in fighting with their mods. Yeah horrible fan base can ruin a game.

Also yur assumption could not be more wrong since I buy all my games knowing what I will like. I never read reviews because I don't care. I know what I like. But I didn't even go into the surface of the disgusting things they did and yeah the game reflects that fanbase. Besides 18 years later some games age badly and Shenmue has aged like milk on a hot summer day.

Graphics aren't 2017 state of the art, but they are acceptable to get the gameplay and story across, and that's ALL that matters (coming from someone who still loves the original game, even though this looks 100x better than that by today's standards, the game is still cool). I think this looks like ShenMue through and through, and for that, I am excited, regardless of graphics!

Crazy that they were originally planning on releasing this holiday. I've said since the start Kickstarter projects ALWAYS underestimate the dev time and more often than not they release years after the initial projected release date. At the earliest this is coming out next Holiday, but I can see it taking even longer than that.

Looking good. Okay, the faces need work but the game is still over a year away and the devs will sort it all out. I figure it still has one more delay, possibly so it may well be at the end of next year or Spring 2019. Many of us have waited for over 15 years for the next chapter or conclusion so another year or 18 months will not make much difference. Unless, of course, if I get hit by a bus in which case I will meet my maker and ask him or her why I couldn't be left alone until I had played Shenmue 3.

Yeah, that Final Fantasy sure is a slouch in the graphics department. Deep Down back in the day from Capcom surely was like a 70's cartoon in comparison to modern day graphics. Then that Metal Gear Solid 5....it looked worse than pong.

Japanese were doing cutting edge graphics tech long before the western markets were, and now there really isn't a east vs west in terms of technical advancement.

It's about style, and one game isn't indicative of an entire development community.

The only people who keep quiet about everything gone wrong with the series are the diehard fans who feel obligated to keep supporting them because they have secluded themselves to one platform. They think it's their duty to not only promote the PS4 but to also show that same support for 1st party titles. Polyphony Digital spends more time on photo mode than its campaign mode and you want to throw stones?

Well when you charge $40 for a 3-4 hour game of course people won't be happy. But of course you think VR is like when Atari first came out when people were trying to figure things out. Problem is you keep forgetting VR is going to continue to be treated as a niche product because sales aren't there. That's where your similarity ends, the people making games for the Atari 2600 were new game developers, VR is not suffering from that. VR is suffering from investments. Is Sony allowing Polyphony Digital to make a full VR game? How about Naughty Dog? No, instead they greenlight a one on one area for GT Sport and have some VR support and that's it. So tell me again how that is anything like when Atari started?

VR was never on the market. I was there and I bet you weren't old enough to be there. Sega never launched theirs and Atari never launched theirs. And Virtual Boy was never VR. It was an evolution of the Famicom 3D system.

Only system close was the PUD from Sony that was sold in Japan and barely had 5 games on it. Trust me, I've been waiting for console VR for a very long time.

Show me what console company had VR on the market in America and which system please. Thank you. And don't tell me about arcade VR that I already know about that never hit the console market.

My point was about Nintendo, Sega, Sony, NEC, Atari, SNK, 3DO,etc. I've seen attempts made and articles in Gamefan, Gamers Republic, EGM,GamePro, etc talking about who might or a new product,but they never came home for me to buy. So waited and waited for someone to finally launch a VR headset that was beyond all that stuff I saw in the arcades. Now I finally got one. It may not be the best on the market, but it blows that early arcade stuff out the water. Even while being imperfect.

Meaning, even Shenmue 3 not being perfect, it's still good enough because it's better than getting nothing at all.

Facial expressions and lip syncing is the last thing to be worked on in a game. That all comes in when they record the character voices. Right now they will be working on mechanics and such.

I was expecting a positive reaction. I like the trailer, and if people actually check the animations, they are decent. The girl talks a couple of times, and i just can't see any faults. People who expect too much are often a victim of their own expectations. As others have stated, we should just be glad they're making another Shenmue at all. Game isnt looking all that hot. Good thing its still a WIP. Ryo looks nothing as the Ryo in Shenmue and Shenmue 2. Ohh well ill still pick it up cause i want to continue the story where it left off. Lan Di is gonna get his!

I would love a resolution boost to the originals on current gen. Or a rework and remove all the licence branding items (coke etc).

Waiting to see further improvement for shenmue 3, landscape looks great, character models need work still.

LOL at people that were expecting Uncharted graphics for this game. Just LOL. This was never intended to be a AAA title. It's a low budget indie game. Bring your expectations down to reality please. Some people are just out to complain for complainings sake. I get that, but seriously, do some research on the subject before you flap your gums. I'm a backer BTW.
