I Regret Not Playing The Witcher 3

Lex wrote: What did I do in that month when The Wild Hunt launched? Why didn’t I buy the game 2 years ago? I’m beginning to realize that I’ve actually let a great game pass me by for some rubbish side-scrolling platformer titled Color Guardians. Yeah, that’s how foolish I was back in the years. I was playing something terrible that only lasted 6-7 hours of gameplay that I had to review rather than spending my whole day in White Orchard to do quests and adventure.

That is a really bad headline. You should revise it.

GamerAllTheWay2467d ago

Is that better for you now? ;)

super_bruno2467d ago

"I Regret Not Playing The Witcher 3"

Yeah... you should. One of the best game this gen.

Nu2467d ago

I actually had more fun playing Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen. Msg me on why you deserve a free copy of DDDA for Xone of PS4 and if it's a good reason I'll surprise you with a free copy of said game

lptmg2467d ago

I honestly find it the best game of this gen

lptmg2467d ago

it saddened me when it ended. It truly did

WickedLester2467d ago (Edited 2467d ago )

Great graphics, great story, great characters, great world, great side missions, etc. The mechanics have a lot of room for improvement though.

2467d ago
WickedLester2467d ago

@SolidStateSnake

I disagree. The side missions in The Witcher 3, especially the Bloody Baron, were better than the main story.

theshredded2467d ago (Edited 2467d ago )

If it only weren't for the annoying fall damage and unengaging enemy ai/enemies aswell auto combat mode that removes the jump button...this game would easily be the best but I still give that honor to MGSV, that game is flawless and the closest to perfection alongside GTAV.

Vegamyster2467d ago

MGSV core gameplay was incredibly tight, that said i found the world & story to be extremely dull, especially compared to the Witcher.

nitus102467d ago (Edited 2467d ago )

Why does the writer of the article regret not playing The Witcher 3?

The game is still selling (you can get it and the two DLC's fairly cheaply) and if you have not played the game before it is effectively a new game for you.

The writer of articles like this come across as people who have to have the latest "shiny" when it comes out otherwise to them it is an old game and not worth playing. I can understand if they are a gaming critic but that should not stop you playing a game you really like.

BTW. White Orchard is basically a tutorial which allows you the player to get familiar with the game. Also If you really want to enjoy the game you should play it on "Death March" and not reduce this difficulty since you have to consider potions, magic, weapons and armor.

GamerAllTheWay2467d ago

Back then Witcher 3 started off hard. The mechanics were difficult to grasp in the beginning especially that this is actually my first Witcher game. I got drastically bored and uninterested because the pace was awfully slow for my preference. But going back to it after playing HZD made me realize that I could have had at least given it a chance and took my time to understand the overall game. This is why I regret not playing it back in 2015.

After playing this on xbo i had to go back and play the witcher 2 on 360. Good games that I admit i passed over previously.

GamerAllTheWay2467d ago

That's what I'm going to do. After 3, I'll go back to 1 and 2 for its story. :) Great game!

wannabe gamer2466d ago

part 2 is great but part 1 is extremely aged and doesnt feel like the same games at all. i couldnt bring myself to suffer thru it

Elda2467d ago (Edited 2467d ago )

I bought this game twice & tried to get into it the first time, played it for 8 hrs & to me it was just boring so I traded it in.Still everywhere I would read they were saying great things about it including great reviews so I said let me try this again & bought it for 25 bucks.I still had my save from the first playthrough so I played for another 5 hours & it just felt like a chore the first time I played it.I'm glad folks enjoyed the game but TW3 did nothing for me far as great gameplay or keeping my interest.Like they say different strokes for different folks.

Daver2467d ago

I have played through all the game and it was a chore, combat was so boring. The games i buy never disappointed but this one. I didnt get all the hype for the game, anyway like you said to each their own

frostypants2467d ago (Edited 2467d ago )

I can totally relate with you both but like the author of this article, I have it a second try and loved it. You kinda have to go into it with a commitment to master its quirks. Yeah, the item and character UI is pretty sloppy. Yeah, the map system has some issues and some weird decisions were made (e.g. Velen and Novigrad shown as separate regions on the world map, even though they share one single sub-map). Yeah, the combat is a bit weird and clunky at times...you gotta use food while fighting to keep health up, especially early on. And you have to learn not to waste money on food early on, and instead just steal it by looting everything you see (there is no blowback for theft like in Skyrim). And that first griffin boss is just irritating at that point. Once you "get it" and just get into the journey and the scenery, it's a blast. Or it was for me, anyway.

I'm not one to say it's the greatest game this gen. To me HZD and Bloodborne are tough to beat and I can't say for certain that TW3 is better...but I'm glad I gave it another try and would absolutely put in somewhere in my top 5.

_-EDMIX-_2467d ago

@frost-well absolutely by no means would I say The Witcher 3 is a bad game but there is just a laundry list of so many issues.

I absolutely hate the structure of that Games main story that just has way too much irrelevant filler.

The absolute best part of The Witcher 3 for me was simply the individual Side Stories when you went to a town to kill something for someone. I literally would have been okay if the entire game was simply just that lol

They try to get into a whole bunch of political jargon and even makes several references to the first game but the way they make the references is so narcissistic it's not even funny these guys literally made a very key direct reference as if everybody playing the damn game was memorizing everything about the first Witcher game 😂😂😂

Literally they never really gave any hints or try to paraphrase or word it in a way to jog your memory the dude literally directly asked about a specific event that happened in the first game but even if you're playing both games end to end you're literally talking about an event that might have happened 100 plus hours ago.

The worst part about the first two Witcher games and clearly the third game story was the stupid irrelevant political jargon.

I seriously don't care, it bored me to death.

I would say the most interesting thing in The Witcher one was simply the boy that garold saved that was going to be lynched because he was possessed

SmielmaN2467d ago

I agree. This game did nothing for me. Incredibly boring and clunky. It was the most disappointing games I've ever played.

_-EDMIX-_2467d ago

I would actually recommend simply playing the side quest.

The main quest is just way too irrelevant.

ie I need to find my friend..

"Sure I think someone like that came by but I'll tell you the specifics if you could help me build this Barn"

Repeat 100x

That's legitimately the meat of the main quest I actually think the only tangent that I liked in the main story was probably the Red Baron missions.

I would have liked it if the entire main story was simply just the meat of the actual main conflict and none of the BS irrelevant filler tangent missions that plagued that game.

I completely understand where you're coming from because that was one of my greatest issues with that game aside from a few bugs.

It's not fun when you've just completed a mission and you think the games about to start and you think you're getting closer to answers only for someone to be like "time to go talk to all of Dandelions girlfriends" I seriously don't like spending a session playing a game we're literally for several hours all the content I was seeing was absolutely irrelevant to the main conflict.

Sunny_D2466d ago (Edited 2466d ago )

Ok, now you're just being obnoxious by telling people to not play the main story just because you don't like complicated political talk. Boohoo. But, you're complaining about playing the 3RD GAME in a TRILOGY and crying that they didn't make it easy for you to understand.😢 Games and movies in general are dumbed down because of people like you.

They need explosions and something that caters to your ADD in order for them to be entertained. SMH

_-EDMIX-_2466d ago

@Sunny- "Ok, now you're just being obnoxious by telling people to not play the main story just because you don't like complicated political talk"

And?

Its a suggestion, they can play what they feel bud. Opinions, we are free to have them.

The politcal talk in the game is boring, like watching paint dry. I felt that way about all 3 games. The best part about all the Witcher games is simply the hunts and the small stories that surround a hunt.

Thats my view on it and clearly by the comments, I"m not alone.

I understand it.....its just boring.

The books and tons of lore exist in the game, not saying it doesn't need to exist, simply that I didn't care for it.

Trying to go on an extereme and make it sound as if it needed um "explosions" is you trying to FORCE a narrative that was never stated. You want it to be AAA COD mindset vs Witcher...its not.
I know you want that for your agenda bud, its pretty clear.

I get it, I don't like it. Don't care for it, it was boring.

Thats it.

You can understand a story and still find it boring bud.

Deal with it, not everyone thinks this story is Citizen Kane lmfao!

I mean...don't you get that many commenting on here also feel the same way? Its not as if COD fans are asking why Witcher 3 isn't a FPS, I played all 3 and played MANY RPGs with similar settings and again...don't like the boring political talk in Witcher 3.

What you are you going to do? FORCE me to like it? Isn't that why you made that stupid either or comment as if you MUST LOVE WITCHER 3 or you must LOVE "explosions" lol

Not every one cared for that story or how it was crafted, evident by all the post of people saying they didn't care for it.

Lovable2467d ago

Thank goodness I'm not the only one. I bought and still have the game. Played it for more than 8- 10 hours completing the first area with all the side quest and getting the treasures, but I still couldn't get into it. I was forcing myself to enjoy it even with bad gameplay and uninteresting story.

_-EDMIX-_2466d ago (Edited 2466d ago )

Agreed.

You are not alone bud.

Legit, just play the side quest. The main quest is just a whole runaround. Its why you don't see many of the Witcher 3 fanboys really saying anything against this.

All anyone has to do is simply loo at the damn wiki for the quest to see how much filler exist in the game.

ie "I'll tell you where your friend is, if you clear this barn full of rats" lol That LEGIT happens in the game

https://www.gamefaqs.com/bo...

I guess those people are fake.

https://steamcommunity.com/...

I know I"m not the only one that noticed this folks.

Fans of this game legit don't want to admit something is clearly wrong with the main quest. It has very little to do with the main conflict and mostly just RUN AROUND quest

showtimefolks2466d ago

elda

you are not the only one i tried it too and just didn't feel right. My issue isn't the story, world or side quest its everything else and how confusing it makes it

the combat is weakest part of every witcher game
menu systems along with inventory is clunky and should have been handled better
overall explanation of potions other stuff you can create should be better explained

i am gonna give it another shot once they release a patch for pro and hopefully with all the patches and dlc there are some improvements

Elda2466d ago (Edited 2466d ago )

Agreed.I love a good story in games but if a story isn't all that then the game usually makes up for great gameplay & I just wasn't getting that with TW3.To me the game was just boring all around,I didn't like the inventory/menu set up as well including the items & I tried it twice.I know a lot of folks loved it but I just didn't see what they saw & that's ok.I always say..to each their own.

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave17d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan17d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name41d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno41d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno41d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure41d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
