Destiny 2 Beta May Be a Better Game but Forgets What Made Destiny 1 Great

Gadgets 360 says:

"Bungie fails to recognise what made Destiny so memorable for its core user base - a sense of character progression. There’s no loot unless you include a gun you find in the first minute of the Homecoming level. Through out Destiny 1’s alpha, beta, and retail release, your character levelled up and obtained gear, which gave one the feeling of improvement even you were simply acquiring a new piece of armour in a random skirmish. None of this is present in the Destiny 2 beta yet, though it might well be when the game comes out eventually. Given how central this is to the experience, you’d think Bungie would play up those aspects, but so far the evidence points to the contrary."

It will be in the full game. For the beta, they are making it seem like you get cool gear quickly, probably to tempt players that were not familiar with the first game to purchase D2.

Fishy Fingers2470d ago

Probably right and the more gear they can get tried out in the beta the better for feedback (the point of a beta).

Goldby2470d ago

this is a demo and marketing for sales, not actual testing. the game comes out in liek 2 months

DaDrunkenJester2470d ago

@goldby

They can still tweak movement speed, super recharge based on feedback etc within 2 months... also tweak some crucible things.

Skull5212469d ago (Edited 2469d ago )

Lol nothing made Destiny great. That game got like 6/10 across the board and that was a fair score...

Decent attempt for a first game for a new group of people after the bungie talent signed on with 343i.

EatCrow2470d ago

Full game?
By that you mean 2-4 years after release right?

UKmilitia2469d ago

look how half assed the destiny release was, only to be shafted by them numerous times and only then did the game feel complete, yet i had got fed up by then

Relientk772470d ago

You mean how Exotic weapons are just sitting on a gun rack in the mission lol

Rude-ro2470d ago

Knowing destiny.. everything we have in the beta is not any of the gear any player will use other than leveling up.
Normal legendary drops that will be trash in the game as you progress.
The other aspect not available on the beta is all the mods for weapons and armor. Weapons will have frame choices and perk mods.
This game will rely on player loadouts more than destiny 1 for all activities.

CorndogBurglar2469d ago

What are you even talking about? The article says you get NO gear in the beta aside from a gun you pick up in the very beginning.

That being the case, how is Bungie trying to "make it seem like you get cool gear quickly"?

I get people hate Destiny. Thats fine. I understand it had its problems. But this comment just comes off as someone who has no idea what is actually in the game and is just hating for no reason.

so are there no rewards for playing crucible? Or at the end of the strike? That sort of sucks :P

but it's just a beta, so oh well.

Cmv382470d ago

You still get drops at the end of crucible and strikes. He's talking about drops through out regular play.

Jmanzare2470d ago

Yea there's no social space decrypt engrams

Neonridr2470d ago

gotcha, thanks for the response.

Sevir2469d ago

The Destiny one beta was a lot more full in terms of content offerings I must say. The first 5 missions of the the game was available 2 crucible modes and 3 maps plus a strike along with the social space. Leveling and such.

While they've decided taken a different approach with the beta. These features will be in the full game. I'm just disappointed that they went this route. In all I feel they chose to give smaller snippets of everything because of the heavy emphasis of story, and to that extent I'll say the game is shaping up to be amazing.

The visuals are awesome as well

yomfweeee2470d ago

The author here is basically a moron and he assumes that since something isn't in the beta, it won't be in the final game. The loot and light system will all be in the game, Bungie has already said so.

Neonridr2470d ago

I think the author is comparing the two betas. At least in the first beta it allowed us to progress. We got to do several story missions, we found better and better loot. Our skills unlocked, etc.

HomoLuden2470d ago

THe author seems very intelligent on how to create an issue out ofnothing to make ppl click. lol

Rude-ro2470d ago

There are three armor builds and two of most guns

dsammy042470d ago

Honestly don't care about getting too much loot especially since everything will be wiped when the game is officially released.

Especially with a player like myself I played all 3 classes I really just wanted to see how they all handle and new specials. If you play all 3 first missions each character gets a different exotic either in primary or secondary slot. So that's all I needed to get me to buy the game to see a sample of 3 new guns.

I really don't want to level up to have to do it all over come September. The beta was to get us excited for what's to come and also stress bungie servers. I'm excited for this game.

StuffAndThings2470d ago

How is this a better game ? Granted I have only played the intro level seems the same to me

Goldby2470d ago

its not, i actually found d2 quite dull

Goldby2470d ago

@JManzare.

Destiny 1 beta was about 1000x better than this one. only a strike available and no exploration area...

Jmanzare2470d ago

you can't really judge the entire game off of a story mission a strike and 2 pvp gametypes. I did like the beta for destiny better than d2 but it's not like we had the entire cosmodrone to patrol.

Goldby2470d ago

@Jmanzare

im judging it based off what i felt liek during D1 beta compared to full game and then this.

i was excited for D1, didnt stop playing the beta, really enjoyed it, game came out, dissapointed in the end, now with destiny 2, i didnt even feel the urge to finish the strike that was available, so that is telling me that either the other strikes wont be as good as they are tryign to wow us with it, and the entire experience was just bleh.

homecoming mission was a joke.

vallencer2470d ago (Edited 2470d ago )

Its ok we get the social space to explore on the last day of the beta. Its gonna be awesome!!

/s

Youre right the beta for the first game was a lot better. I feel like they didnt care as much for this because they know people will buy it anyway.

vickers5002470d ago

@goldby

I wasn't impressed either, but think about why that might be. Back then, early ps4 days, there wasn't really a lot to play, and Destiny, its world, graphics, its controls and the potential was very exciting. I think I was still excited by using a new controller to play my games (ds4). There was also the hype aspect of it being Bungies first ps4 game.

I think a lot of that played into our enjoyment of Destiny 1s beta, but as time passed and more games are now out, those aspects don't mean anything anymore. Not to mention, Destiny 1 put waaaayy too much content in the game for a normal beta. People assumed that if THAT was just a beta, then there must be a TON of content in the full game.

I went in to D2s beta assuming it would disappoint, but the homecoming mission actually surprised me, I thought it was very good. I was disappointed with the strike and cruicible, but it's just one strike, and I've never been a fan of cruicible, even though I thought it was better than Destiny 1s.

I think it's too early to judge. I think the beta for destiny 2 is not at all an example of what the game will be like, this time, it's just a pretty normal beta by todays standards.

Codedan2470d ago

Feels like copy paste with texture updates.

Rude-ro2470d ago

90% of all franchises are the same...
How they improve on the pve will determine how good the sequel is...
So we are waiting.
Halo, halo 2, halo 3 etc are all the same game with a lot of the same areas... the evelution was the story.
Why does anyone try to say "the same thing"?

Chaosdreams2470d ago

Is there too much story in the Beta?

EatCrow2470d ago

LOL SO MUCH IM SURE!

Was waiting for someone to say something regarding that.

Onslaught is certainly a lot of fun. Plus it's nice having a wide array of extremely useful weapons to grind for.

Been having a blast using The Mountain top as a traversal tool rather than a weapon
