Xbox Is For The Players

Let’s hop in our magical time machine and head back to the Xbox One reveal 2013. It was a horrible moment in Xbox history to say the least. Announcing always online, some horrendous DRM policies & making TV a priority Xbox seemed to be completely disconnected from what gamers wanted.

Powerful hardware, great features and now diversity. Xbox is definitely for the players and doing better at it. It just needs to sort out games in the exclusives department but otherwise it's really turned things around.

I don't see Microsofts Horizon, still don't see their answer to Uncharted or a game like Gravity Rush, Nier, Nioh, Yakuza 0 a good well crafted remake like Crash Bandicoot people really want, a JRPG like Persona 5

New franchises, sequels, remakes, remasters, DLC expansions, that's just from the first half of the year.

Microsoft have had plenty of time to sort their shit out, it dosen't help when they were talking about investing in games years ago which should have been finished development by now yet they are saying roughly the exact same things about "future games" which are apparently another 3-4 years away. It's a constant loop, in 3-4 years they'll probably get to next gen and say something like "Oh we have more games coming, it's just with it being a new generation we want them to get familiar with the console with old franchises like Halo 6 and Gears of War 5, they'll be ready in 3-4 years"

I don't think Microsoft targets as many Japanese gamers as Sony. As for not having an answer for Horizon or Uncharted, Sony doesn't have an answer for Gears or Halo. If you are a racing fan, Sony really doesn't have an answer for Forza or Forza Horizon yet. I don't see their answer to Sea of Thieves or Crackdown either. It's almost like these are two entirely separate companies targeting two distinct groups of gamers with their exclusives.

MS fanboys think of Gears and Halo as Xbox's staple franchises and elevate them to Nintendo's 'Mario' and 'Zelda', except Gears and Halo aren't even close and are dying franchises, which will never be as critically acclaimed as Nintendo or Sony exclusives. MS made no attempt to reinvent Gears or Halo, like God of War 4 or Zelda were. MS should have killed them years ago and moved on if they had any respect for gaming as an art. Imagine if MS had a franchise consistently rated 90+ on metacritic like Uncharted, they'd keep milking it even after it became as insipid as Gears.

I'm pretty sure we could find a PS game that fills Forza's spot, personally I would like a new Ridge Racer. As for Gears and Halo, they are dying franchises like someone said (Personally I think Final Fantasy is in the same boat). And those were games were THE games to buy an Xbox for, they really need new blood.

Xbox imo, has best online community and service via Xbox Live, best 1st party multiplayer (I know story driven games are cool too, relax) games. EA Access(sony saus no value for you! Lol), Xbox Game Pass(better than streaming), cross play with PC and Nintendo on some games (sony too scared). 4K Blu ray for those gamers who like collecting movies and watching best quality! Hey if you like gaming and would like to dabble in how to make one. Turn your Xbox One into a dev kit amd code for it.

Xbox One X will probably have all the same features plus more! Oh and the best 3rd party games not being paid by Sony ponsee parity scheme.

I do agree about the cross play but I wont just throw everything PlayStation offers because of it. Earlier this year, ps4 waa getting amazing exclusives left and right and the switch came with zelda:BotW so x1 owners were asking phil "where are the exclusives?" And he answered that THIS e3 will show xbox exclusives. Fast forward to e3 and state of decay got delayed to 2018 even though Phil went on record to say he was confident in this year's line up with SoT SoD2 and crack down3. The only new exclusive they announced (after promise so much) is luckys tale and a lot of timed exclusivty that (for me at least) made it feel like sony was saying"remember Xbox press conference? Well, on ps4 you'll get those games AND these ps4 exclusives"

I'm currently in Asia and truthfully, all the good online things gamers experienced on XB is pretty much non-existent. The community is very much barren, if even exist at all, some small community exist when games are released but most only active for the initial month or so, you'll pretty much end up alone if you buy multiplayer games past the initial launch window, while playing with people across the ocean will get you latency and language problem.

that's really one of the main reason why MS still can't penetrate markets around the world I think. You sell your console as the prime multiplayer game experience but without any community in the first place it instead become the reason why it won't sell. MS needs single player games badly, with those people can safely buy the console without worrying whether or not there are people to play with, and then when enough people have already bought the console, only then 'the best online community' tagline can really sell your console.

as it is now, 'multiplayer experience' is actually one of the main reason why it won't sell, in here at least.

A third go this generation to produce a console that can carry the moniker 'most powerful' (albeit until the next PlayStation is released), many strategies designed to push the Xbox introduced and then discarded, games announced and then either cancelled or delayed one after another, lack of investment in new IPs, dependency on the same three franchises constantly. Sure, this is all 'for the players' if they are gullible, absolutely loyal no matter what excuse is made for the next failure, cancellation, delay or lack of (such as VR in Xbox One X even though ii is supposedly capable of), or just willing to part with money in order to support Microsoft not because they give us loads of games but because the company is American.

The only thing Microsoft is interested in at this point, in my opinion, is to make the most money for the least expenditure and somehow keep the Xbox brand viable. Games were supposed to be 'coming' for the last three years and yet this year we have had only a Halo spin off so far as a major release and we might be lucky to have Crackdown 3 and Sea of Thieves by the end of the year (if they are not cancelled or delayed) and yet neither is being talked of as a huge must have game. In fact, Crackdown 3 looks underwhelming despite all the hype that was thrown at us when it was first announced (power of the cloud, etc.)

What Xbox is at this time is a shadow of what it once was or what it could be.

Only one halo and gears came this gen. There are numerous games not available on other consoles excluding PC. If you have a gaming PC great, but because I don't xbox has been great for me. I respect your opinion but others may be looking forward to SOT, crackdown, state of decay, battlegrounds, Conan etc.. more than spidey, days gone, and Detroit etc.. It's not as black and white as some on this site make it seem, though an extra game or two from a first party MS studio would be obvious progress where they have lacked the last couple of years. Sidenote, for 5 bucks I'm going to try titanfall 2 and battlefield 1 for 5 bucks soon which is so cool I think! I only mention that not to sound like a fanboy but put some perspective on why an xbox may be attractive. I welcome any solid input or criticisms on this site but stating such things as 'gullible' and 'throwing money' at MS out of blind loyalty are your personal opinions and comments in the same vein as that highlight the problems with much of the gaming community in these forums. People push opinions like gospel and it drwons out intelligent debate. This post like many others sound hateful and not constructive, why is the gaming community so hell bent on being putting each other down?

Do you really need me to write a list of exclusives for you? This should be something simple that you can actually research yourself. It would be faster to write a list of months where an exclusive for PS4 didn't come out than the other way around while Xbox goes through long droughts of no games. It's not the console I hate, it's the company that owns it. I would own one if they would at least try a little harder with the games. Getting the best version of a 3rd party game can be achieved on PC, consoles have always been about unique exclusives and making a brand out of those games. The thing is PlayStation exclusives clearly isn't that important to PS4 owners. Just look at the biggest and best exclusive releases in a while.

Horizon Zero Dawn has sold a impressive 3,4 million copies so far. In 1-3 years that number will most likely be ~6-10 million.

But when there is 60+ million PS4 owners out there. It's not that impressive and clear that PS4 owners care more about third-party titles.

One more example. Uncharted 4 is much more popular then Horizon. And has been out for a little over a year now. And "only" 8,7 million PS4 owners out of 60 million has bought a copy.

So it's clear that there is in the big picture a "smal" group of PS4 owners that buys the console primarily to play exclusives.

I disagree. Everything that xbox has done that can be considered for the players, xbox has done because they are so far behind in sales. We saw what their plans are for gaming, always online, drm, forced Kinect, no used games, etc. That was MS at their worst in gaming when they thought they were the king of the hill, and it's how I know they are not for the players. And since I know these always come back to comparisons with Sony; of course the retort is always "But Sony was planning the same thing." Yes, that's true but the difference is Sony saw the feedback xbox was getting when they announced their policies and changed things, where as MS didn't change anything after hearing feedback, it was only after they saw low preorder numbers. And all the pro consumer things they're doing now only came about after they saw how far behind they were. So to me, you can call them pro consumer due to their recent moves all you like, and I'd agree. but don't give me "for the players".
And no, I don't think SOny is for the players, but the difference is clear, I already said what Xbox was like at their worst in gaming with the policies they tried to impose, where as Playstation at its worst overcharged for the PS3.
