Okay, lots of unexpected announcements here.

Backward Compatible Full Catalog of 360 Halo games with all DLC made free. No doubt now once original Xbox Backward Compatibility comes, Halo 1 and Halo 2 will also become playable.

True 4k Halo 5 was also a type of announcement I expected on Gamescom or RTX.

Best of all is the Halo 3 Anniversary playlist being made for Halo 5. Can't wait to see all those maps being made for H5.

Aenea2479d ago

Ehh, the 360 Halo games aren't free, you still need the original disc. Maybe you meant just the DLC but your sentence suggests the games are free as well.

Eliseo6762479d ago (Edited 2479d ago )

I apologise for my English grammar. I am quite happy for the DLC being free, as I have friends who own Halo Reach and Halo 4 but were never able to acquire the DLC.

Will make for some awesome throwback days.

Also, I disagree entirely with your other comments. Please inform yourself about the Xbox "Rock solid" frame rate.

zivtheawesome2479d ago

i don't understand why people are calling you a hater for being correct...

4Sh0w2479d ago (Edited 2479d ago )

Hot dammm!....best news all day.

Edit, more info:

"Today we are excited to officially confirm that Halo 5 will receive a game update to support true 4K with the release of Xbox One X later this year!"

"Today we’re thrilled to announce four more very special additions coming later this year to the Xbox One back-compat program: Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo 4, and Halo: CE Anniversary!"

-The Gaming Gods have smiled upon us once again....lol,
think I'll make Halo5 in 4K the first game I play on my brand new X in their honor, nah but all jokes aside as a huge Halo fan this is great news. I knew it would happen sooner or later but man I was expecting this news at E3.....better late than never!

Trekster_Gamer2479d ago

They can be picked up extremely cheap so that's no big deal.

What is there to know about rock solid fps? Analysis from Digital Foundry clearly shows it has frame rate issues..

Or are they now not reliable anymore?

DARK_WOLF2479d ago

No it doesnt. Maybe try playing the game. Its like butter.

Also those df videos are not gospel. Games get patched all the time and in halo 5s case its had many.

Aenea2479d ago

Good news!

I wish tho MS would be more specific what they mean with "true 4k" for each game since it certainly doesn't seem to mean native 4k. Probably does dynamic scaling and will hit 4k at times 'cos the originals on the One weren't all rock solid nor all in 1080p so am curious to see what they managed with this on the One X.

OMGitzThatGuy2479d ago

Has MS announced any "true 4k" games that aren't 4k native? Not talking about 3rd party, MS has no control over that.

Aenea2479d ago

Yeah, they did, same are said to be true 4k even tho they use dynamic resolution and can dip below for example.

Let's face it, if they mean native 4k with it they could've just called it just that.

OMGitzThatGuy2479d ago

What games did MS announce as true 4k that are dynamic 4k?

Ricegum2479d ago

Aenea

Love the way you get disagrees but actually have a point. Only when the Xbox One X releases will these people realise that very few games will be actual true 4k, and not Microsoft's version on "True 4k".

DARK_WOLF2479d ago (Edited 2479d ago )

Its gonna be native 4k at 60fps and im sure youl find some way to still be dissapointed.

Aenea2479d ago

Nah, not really, if it looks good and performs well it doesn't matter much, but to many people it does. Also seems to be important to you. Will you be disappointed when it's not native 4k all the time?

DARK_WOLF2479d ago

Why would i? The game is already awesome at sub 1080p.

Its gonna be over 4x the resolution (native 4k) with other graphical upgrades as well.

How can anyone be dissapointed with that?

Aenea2479d ago (Edited 2479d ago )

Rather of topic don't you think?

On-topic: I am actually curious what it can do, yes, and no, not for the reasons you think. Aren't you curious?

Indeed, we have to wait and see.

Sm00thNinja2479d ago

Im just shaking my head. NOTHING TO SAY really. Well just have to wait and see

slate912479d ago (Edited 2479d ago )

Yes!!! I was so bummed when Halo 5 wasn't mentioned for the 4k treatment.

Plus "classic" gameplay settings in Halo 5 for the Halo 3 anniversary? That is awesome.

christocolus2479d ago

"I was so bummed when Halo 5 wasn't mentioned for the 4k treatment"

Same here. Glad they are doing it though. The BC announcement is a nice addition too.

TankCrossing2479d ago (Edited 2479d ago )

All the other first party games getting the 4k treatment already offer it on PC, so a big part of the work was already done. Great news that they're making the effort for Halo 5 as well though. Call me a snob, but I found the resolution (and associated aliasing) really hurt the presentation. I'd been waiting on a proper PC release, and pretty much given up hope.

They can't fix the story or the squad mechanics, but I did feel there is a pretty game under there waiting to get out. The art is strong, the gameplay and performance are already solid, and the multiplayer is actually top notch. I'll definitely give it some play time.

TankCrossing2479d ago (Edited 2479d ago )

I'm not trying to argue that PC gaming is better than console gaming. Just saying that the other games MS have already released and confirmed 4k patches for (Halo Wars 2, Gears 4, Minecraft, Killer Instinct, Forza Horizon 3) already supported 4k on the PC. Halo 5 is a different kettle and I didn't hold out much hope, but MS have come good on it.

The UWP games on Windows aren't really full of hacks though (for better or worse, they don't allow external programs to hook), and you get to use a keyboard and mouse too so it's quite fair in that regard. Live and let play man.

nugchuggle2479d ago (Edited 2479d ago )

Cool news about the old games.

Now if only H5 had split screen i would play it.

aconnellan2479d ago

You're denying yourself what's probably the best multiplayer in the Halo series because it doesn't have split screen?

I obviously can't speak for everyone, but screen would be great for when my mates come over, but that's very sparingly for me. The rest of the time is just me.

Though they have confirmed Halo 6 will have split screen. Would you look at picking it up?

Allsystemgamer2479d ago

Halo 5 mp is ok. Halo 3 still takes the cake for the best. Was not a fan of the movement in 5. Made getting away far too easy and made screw ups far less punishing.

4Sh0w2478d ago (Edited 2478d ago )

Nah, I got to disagree with you there. Halo5 multiplayer is just better than the rest in every way, I mean its got spot on controls, well balanced maps and gameplay, it runs at a silky smooth 60fps, and it's loaded with content....pretty much every pro Halo player, and all the longtime Halo fans on forums, myself included have said Halo5 has the best multiplayer of the series and that's saying alot since past Halo multiplayer have been top notch for their time as well. Of course it's all just a matter of opinion but yes its a minority opinion among Halo fans.

Infinite is a dumpster fire and as much as I like ODST, in no universe it ranks above Halo 2. This list is trash.

Kaii101d ago

Just exclude Infinite>5>4

ChasterMies101d ago

Best to worst: Halo 3, Halo 2, Halo Reach, Halo CE, Halo 4, Halo ODST, Halo Infinite, Halo 5.
