ARMS will be Nintendo’s next Splatoon-like success

With fantastic character designs and an atypical take on shooters, Splatoon set the Japanese market ablaze and sold almost 5M copies around the world. That may not sound like much compared to Call of Duty’s almost guaranteed 15M for every release, but Splatoon was a brand new, kid friendly shooter IP, exclusive to the dying Wii U. People originally thought it was going to flop harder than Wonderful 101, so 4.8M (at least ) is a huge accomplishment.

Now there’s ARMS, a fighting game that follows in the footsteps of Splatoon, bringing us stylish new characters and a fresh take on the fighting game genre.

Only a japonese studio would create something so crazy.

PlebeGamer2546d ago

Yeah, the Japanese devs certainly seem to have more originality than he Western devs.

Erik73572546d ago

Its because of the development structure. In japan, the director has all control and final say over every aspect of the game. In america, you have a director of the sound...director of the game design...director of the story...etc. etc.

Ribbon Girl will be my main until they reveal the the other female characters and I will see who I chose as my female main.

Minmin is love, Minmin is life.

Minmin is also my main, no matter what.

@PlebeGamer I agree with you 120%

It'll sell well enough considering the lack of games, and loyal fans looking to add to their library for their new shiny console.

This game looks FUN AF and also addicting. Graphics and art style are sharp. I can't wait to play.

PurpHerbison2546d ago

Tournaments are really in split screen...? Gross...

Summons752546d ago (Edited 2546d ago )

Or local mp with 2 Switches.

PurpHerbison2546d ago

Ah I see, same approach as Pokken for competitive play.

PlebeGamer2546d ago

I think that the view we got from the screen was spectator mode. With the unique style of ARMS, we can't expect the standard camera view you'd get with most fighters.

Nintendo Select: 5 Switch Games That Deserve A Second Chance

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "The Nintendo Switch has been one Nintendo’s most successful systems ever, both measured by the number of units sold and the quality of its titles, but if there’s one thing this generation has been missing it would have to be the Nintendo Selects line, bringing existing titles that had paid their dues back at bargain prices. With the Switch now entering its twilight years, and there being few new titles in store for the foreseeable future, what better time could there be to bring back this tried-and-true tradition? While the actual realization of it may be doubtful given how rigid both hardware and software prices have become in recent years, that only gives us all the more reason to dream up a hypothetical lineup of our own.

For this article the specific focus will not be on those massive multi-million evergreens that the lineup would no doubt contain a few of to cement its value, but instead on games that for one reason or another fell short of their full potential the first time around and deserve a second chance to reach more players at an affordable price. Let’s get started."

I really want Xenoblade Chronicles X on the Switch, can't believe that hasen't been ported. I'm playing Skyward Sword at the moment and I'm almost finished, but it's so long and the controls are so bad, even without motion. Astral Chain is fantastic though, they should make a sequel.

A bunch of Nintendo Switch games just got the same patch, but no one’s quite sure why

ARMS has received its first update in five years, but we'd prefer if it got a sequel

I got the same for Splatoon 2. Nintendo's release notes should be more detailed. Interesting.
