Thankfully google fixes this, but I remember the original uncharted had a HIDDEN trophy for killing 3 enemies with an explosion 5 different times. no way you just stumble across that unless you love things that go boom. Most of us just shoot our way through.

Starhawk was a bit easier to get but that snipe 2 players with one bullet that was a pain when there's no Ai players also the fly swatted was a hard one where you had to splat someone on a jet pack with a plane

Ya HZD has one...one trophy that is sorta a pain, but the rest of them are natural happening or fair enough to attain. I always try to get the platinum in most games and I usually do not because most games ask for such inane demands to get them. HZD list is one of the most well thought out list of trophies I think I've ever seen.

I thought the HZD platinum was really easy, but also very enjoyable to obtain imo.
Although I found EVERYTHING in HZD to be enjoyable. A complete masterpiece.

I'm not sure which trophy you're referring to, but I assume you avoided saying due to spoilers?

I too try to platinum all my games if I can, but online trophies are usually the breaking point for me as I only do single player.

Without looking, I'm going to hazard a guess that it is finding and knocking over all the stupid training dummies. I didn't know I was supposed to look out for those, so when I finally glanced at the trophies I was pretty annoyed to find that one.

I wish games did a better job of allowing you some kind of opt-in for in-game trophy tracking. Some are better than others (and some don't bother), but a way to give you a heads up on what to do or how many more of a certain thing you have to do would be appreciated. I also think once you beat a game, all the "hidden" trophies/achievements should be revealed so you can actually do them. Nothing to spoil now, and if it is too obscure for me to have found by the end of the game then I'll just have to Google for it anyway.

I'm not a huge trophy hound, so these aren't a HUGE deal to me, but they are things I think that, if improved, would make me somewhat more inclined to care about them. As is, I've only ever Platinumed 2 games & I'm not sure if I'll get around to Platting a 3rd lol

I think the article needs tweaking as to its direction and tone. To me it is less about the difficulty of the task, and more to the ethos of it: why have that be a trophy? Was your gaming experience enriched by having to do it? If you find it does, then I can see why this seems like a silly complaint. For a view from the other side, here's my take:

I believe a trophy should be awarded for doing something fun, or challenging, or making you play the game a different way. In this example, there isn't any significance given to the dummies, you aren't told to look for them for any reason, they aren't a challenge, they are (outside the first handful) completely missable...this may be a short trophy if you look up where they are, but things like this I find fall more into "chore", rather than "enjoyable" territory. Some people might like the "seek/find" aspect, but a lot of responses seem to say it is quick, and all you have to do is look up a wiki/video to get it done ASAP. I feel like if this is the mindset a good portion of people have towards a particular trophy, then it is likely not a good trophy.

This trophy is - in my mind - a distilled/much shorter version of when I realized the last thing I needed to do to Plat AC2 was to track down every...single...feather. That was bullshiz. I did it and I hated it. This is, mercifully, much shorter. Obviously it comes down to preference and what people find enjoyable. Perhaps I don't realize that a lot of people actually DO like these kinds of trophies. If that's the case, then at least I'll finally understand their inclusion. But I feel more people than not tend to find these kinds of trophies annoying - as the author says, it is not really a trophy awarded for skill, rather for grinding/padding.

This is a lot of words for something so minor - it honestly doesn't bother me THAT much. I'm not a hard-core trophy hunter so perhaps I'll never "get" trophies like these, but at least you can get an idea as to why some people aren't keen on them.

I didn't know about this trophy when I started the game, so i skipped some. Not sure which ones. But since you can easily pass them multiple times while collecting the stuff in the game, I just knock them over when I come across them.

Yeah, akin to getting someone who hates first person shooters to review battlefield. I get that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I'd rather get a well informed doctor's opinion if I think there's something medically wrong than some hobo on the train tracks.

The hardest Platinum I've ever achieved is the Gran Turismo 5 Platinum.

The trophy for doing the Red Bull Vettel event races was insane. I remember spending around 5-10 hours on each on the three races to get that perfect lap in a car that was just too quick to control. I must admit though, I don't regret doing them and I am quite proud of the platinum. ;)

The GT6 platinum was a breeze by comparison.

I gave up on that trying to get gold in all the license trials. There's one where you can't knock over any cones, and I can never seem to do it in the quickest time frame.

hardest platinum for me was cod5 world at war... that shit almost drove me crazy! plus i had to redo some of the mission on hardest difficulty cz the trophies ware bugged and won't unlock after completing the missions for the first time O_O

when i was without job i hunted those trophies like mad. but with a fulltime job trophies got more and more uninteresting because a) most of them are uninspired and boring lists just copied and pasted from other games and b) when you only got 1-2 hours per day for gaming you spend your time with stuff that's worth the while: playing games to proceed the story, not to jump through all these hoops. what helped me the most to get over my trophy-addiction: watching other trophy addicts how they justified even the dumbest of actions just to get another trophy.

Horizon Zero Dawn is such an easy Platinum. It's even impossible to miss any. If you're a trophy hunter it's totally worth picking them up. You'll get most of them through normal play anyway.

Same. I don't care for trophies on most games and certainly not open world games. Only the ones I truly enjoy get the platinum treatment and hzd was one of them. At no point was I bored or hated a part of the game, even while getting all the collectibles.

I got 97 platinums, my hardest was WET and Prototype because of those challenges. Metal Gear Solid 4 was very annoying because of all the flashbacks... But nowadays I only plat games I really like.

I got two :I both were simple but games - Ratchet and Clank PS4 and Rocket League. I refuse to play terrible games for quick plats, although I tried to get the Day of the Tentacle one as it was a PS+ game recently but couldn't last one hour before the annoying af music and tone put me off the game. Working on Horizon but I am really slow, as of now I am level 22 and only just reached the carja border gate section (got all the maps revealing the collectables from the Nora Hunting Ground merchant), going to complete the grazer training dummies trophy before moving on through the gate.

I hated the KZ2 one where you have to be in the top 1% rank in the week to receive the trophy. Did they forget not everyone can play online when they have work and school? I'm glad Guerilla games didn't make it hard for Horizon.

I have been adamant about devs getting rid of MP trophies altogether. I'm generally fine with try X game mode/complete a match of X game mode, but I really can't stand luck-based online trophies that are based on very specific situations that almost never happen unless you get together with a bunch of people to boost the trophy (and I do not do trophy boosting as a rule to myself).

That, and servers get shut down, so there are games out there that have trophies you can no longer obtain because the online portion of the game has been shut down.

Some aren't too bad. It's annoying when a SP game has a bunch of MP trophies though. TLOU for instance requires you go through the two paths, which requires playing a lot of online matches, and then there are a couple of online challenge ones. but things like Mass Effect 3 had like 1 MP trophy, and it was the thing that you got your rep up to full or something. You didn't have to be good at MP, or even spend a lot of time in it, so it wasn't bad. On the plus side, the ME3 MP was pretty fun.

LittleBigPlanet had some ridiculous things to do to get the trophy. Like get rated highly for a level you created. Make so many levels. play so many user levels, so on, and so forth.

Yeah, last of us was a single player game to the vast majority. When people think back on that game they think of the single player. Yet to get the platinum you had to spend more time in multiplayer shooting dude bros in the nuts! than you did in the actual game.

Max Payne 3 New York Minute trophy... I was trying to platinum the game, hit my 3rd play through and then stumbled across that crap... I was like you know what, imma do this one first then get back to the others... honestly only trophies I don't even bother with are multiplayer ones. MP holds no interest for me what so ever.
The only trophy I can think of where I just plain had to give up on because I just didn't have the skill to get it was in vanquish. They had one for completing some challenge maps. Others I just felt were too much of a chore or are in my "i'll get back to it one day" pile.

The trophy mentioned from Borderlands 2 isn't entirely pointless. Each time you tip moxxi, there's a chance that she will reward you with a unique gun. The incendiary version of the gun can be acquired repeatedly, so the money that you tip her is not entirely wasted.

Different people find different things fun. even before trophies I used to do my best to 100% games like final fantasy. I have over 100 platinums and enjoy my time getting them. Because you don't find them fun that means I'm not supposed to? You might not like them, and that's fine. There's an option under notifications to turn off trophy notifications. And boom, it's just like not having trophies. So there you go, if you like them, they're there, if not, you can turn them off. I don't really see the problem.

I very much enjoy trophies. They breathe a new layer to the compulsive side of us all. The Completionist. I personally would go for a platinum at all times given a great game. The only thing that is stopping me is the sheer amount of greatness produced and lack of time. Nonetheless, main goal is to finish and experience as many games as I can.

Killzone 2's trophy that requires you to be in the top 1% of the leaderboards. Now that was fun..... (not), but I'm a proud owner of said achievement, as is KZ2's platinum. One of the best MP shooter's I've ever played. I hope the next KZ will have a MP as perfect as KZ2.

I still have nightmares of running around a bandit camp for way too long in The Witcher 3 trying to get 50 headshots to register. Maybe they fixed the hit detection since I did it making it more bearable, but killing probably 200-300+ bandits because it would only sometimes class your headshot as a headshot was maddening.

I don't mind if a trophy is difficult, that way if I fail it's because I suck and if I succeed I feel good for actually pulling trough.

It's when the trophy requires endless brain-numbing grinding to earn. Like the one for unlocking all skills in Stories: the Path of Destinies, or getting a settlement to 100% happiness in Fallout or unlocking all gear in AoT: wings of freedom. Those were not difficult, they just took insane amounts of time, and eventually I ended up hating those games...

Binding of Isaac: rebirth ps4 platinum is a headache. Still haven't gotten it. Unlocking the lost is a nightmare.
