Trophies That Simply Aren't Worth It

Sometimes you have to refuse to jump through those hoops

Some trophies are ridiculously hard. I remember some game had a trophy for playing 24h non stop lol

FITgamer2555d ago

None of trophies on this list are hard though. It's a joke of a list.

yeahright22555d ago

Thankfully google fixes this, but I remember the original uncharted had a HIDDEN trophy for killing 3 enemies with an explosion 5 different times. no way you just stumble across that unless you love things that go boom. Most of us just shoot our way through.

JBaby3432555d ago

Warhawk still has the hardest trophies I've ever seen. "Achieve rank of general" and "earn all badges at warhawk level" were freaking insane trophies.

admiralvic2555d ago

Go look at Lost Planet 2's list.

Thethinbeast12555d ago

Now that's a game they need to bring back

1Victor2554d ago

I feel your pain warhawk is a pain to get that platinum and yes there's people playing it after all this years.
Starhawk was a bit easier to get but that snipe 2 players with one bullet that was a pain when there's no Ai players also the fly swatted was a hard one where you had to splat someone on a jet pack with a plane

yeahright22554d ago

Mortal kombat as well. It's like they think we play nothing but their games.

The "challenge" trophy in The Witness...the only one I'm lacking! So hard. Spent much time to no avail so far.

Ya HZD has one...one trophy that is sorta a pain, but the rest of them are natural happening or fair enough to attain. I always try to get the platinum in most games and I usually do not because most games ask for such inane demands to get them. HZD list is one of the most well thought out list of trophies I think I've ever seen.

Mr Marvel2555d ago

I thought the HZD platinum was really easy, but also very enjoyable to obtain imo.
Although I found EVERYTHING in HZD to be enjoyable. A complete masterpiece.

I'm not sure which trophy you're referring to, but I assume you avoided saying due to spoilers?

I too try to platinum all my games if I can, but online trophies are usually the breaking point for me as I only do single player.

KickSpinFilter2555d ago

It was trophy that was in article.

IanTH2555d ago

Without looking, I'm going to hazard a guess that it is finding and knocking over all the stupid training dummies. I didn't know I was supposed to look out for those, so when I finally glanced at the trophies I was pretty annoyed to find that one.

I wish games did a better job of allowing you some kind of opt-in for in-game trophy tracking. Some are better than others (and some don't bother), but a way to give you a heads up on what to do or how many more of a certain thing you have to do would be appreciated. I also think once you beat a game, all the "hidden" trophies/achievements should be revealed so you can actually do them. Nothing to spoil now, and if it is too obscure for me to have found by the end of the game then I'll just have to Google for it anyway.

I'm not a huge trophy hound, so these aren't a HUGE deal to me, but they are things I think that, if improved, would make me somewhat more inclined to care about them. As is, I've only ever Platinumed 2 games & I'm not sure if I'll get around to Platting a 3rd lol

KickSpinFilter2555d ago

As for the "hidden trophies" at least on the PS4 you can click on one and I believe hit square and it tells you what it is.

IanTH2555d ago

@KickSpinFilter Oh, that's interesting. I'll have to check that out and see if I've overlooked that option as I don't remember seeing it. Thanks for the heads up!

Razzer2555d ago

So the guy has zero platinum trophies. To get his first he just has to find 24 training dummies and knock them down. But he isn't going to bother.

Dude should not be writing articles about trophies.

Xack2555d ago

I think you'll find that these trophies weren't suggested by the author. The article states that they were nominated by another person who has a lot more experience with trophy hunting.

faysal2555d ago

read the article again... the author of the article thinks finding grazers dummies are pointless and he won't bother, to him the trophy is "That trophy to me is as worthless as the participation awards that children receive regardless of whether their soccer teams win or lose these days"
so he made a article about pointless trophies by asking a more seasoned trophy hunter, which trophy he finds pointless "So I turned to DYEGB’s resident trophy hunter Big Lil Rizky, and asked him what some of the most pointless or difficult trophies there are out there. Here’s what he came up with:"

Razzer2555d ago

He should have left his silly whine out and left it to the guy who gives a shit about the subject.

Mastershake0072555d ago

Yeah especially since u only have to travel to maybe 7 locations to get all the dummies. Fu*kin stupid article.

SideNote2555d ago

I didn't know it was a trophy, but I've been smashing them down wherever I go. I must be close to getting it me thinks. Must be the gamer senses telling me to do.

faysal2555d ago

@sidenote
they are all at the nora location (start of the game area) :)

IanTH2555d ago (Edited 2555d ago )

I think the article needs tweaking as to its direction and tone. To me it is less about the difficulty of the task, and more to the ethos of it: why have that be a trophy? Was your gaming experience enriched by having to do it? If you find it does, then I can see why this seems like a silly complaint. For a view from the other side, here's my take:

I believe a trophy should be awarded for doing something fun, or challenging, or making you play the game a different way. In this example, there isn't any significance given to the dummies, you aren't told to look for them for any reason, they aren't a challenge, they are (outside the first handful) completely missable...this may be a short trophy if you look up where they are, but things like this I find fall more into "chore", rather than "enjoyable" territory. Some people might like the "seek/find" aspect, but a lot of responses seem to say it is quick, and all you have to do is look up a wiki/video to get it done ASAP. I feel like if this is the mindset a good portion of people have towards a particular trophy, then it is likely not a good trophy.

This trophy is - in my mind - a distilled/much shorter version of when I realized the last thing I needed to do to Plat AC2 was to track down every...single...feather. That was bullshiz. I did it and I hated it. This is, mercifully, much shorter. Obviously it comes down to preference and what people find enjoyable. Perhaps I don't realize that a lot of people actually DO like these kinds of trophies. If that's the case, then at least I'll finally understand their inclusion. But I feel more people than not tend to find these kinds of trophies annoying - as the author says, it is not really a trophy awarded for skill, rather for grinding/padding.

This is a lot of words for something so minor - it honestly doesn't bother me THAT much. I'm not a hard-core trophy hunter so perhaps I'll never "get" trophies like these, but at least you can get an idea as to why some people aren't keen on them.

2555d ago
rainslacker2554d ago

He really complained about that? If you know where they are, you can fast travel to all of them. Would probably take less time than it did to write up this article.

I didn't know about this trophy when I started the game, so i skipped some. Not sure which ones. But since you can easily pass them multiple times while collecting the stuff in the game, I just knock them over when I come across them.

yeahright22554d ago

Yeah, akin to getting someone who hates first person shooters to review battlefield. I get that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I'd rather get a well informed doctor's opinion if I think there's something medically wrong than some hobo on the train tracks.

Mr Marvel2555d ago (Edited 2555d ago )

The hardest Platinum I've ever achieved is the Gran Turismo 5 Platinum.

The trophy for doing the Red Bull Vettel event races was insane. I remember spending around 5-10 hours on each on the three races to get that perfect lap in a car that was just too quick to control. I must admit though, I don't regret doing them and I am quite proud of the platinum. ;)

The GT6 platinum was a breeze by comparison.

InTheZoneAC2555d ago (Edited 2555d ago )

I haven't attempted platinums on gt5 or gt6 but that red bull car is the only one left for me from that event and it's simply too fast and twitchy.

2555d ago
rainslacker2554d ago

I gave up on that trying to get gold in all the license trials. There's one where you can't knock over any cones, and I can never seem to do it in the quickest time frame.

Kudos on getting it though.

What, I thought this was dead after Shawn Layden left Sony. I would definitely pick this up if it's true. I have such great memories of playing the MediEvil games on PS1 and I played the PS4 remake. Such a great and underrated series.

Cacabunga2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

A rumored game at a rumored show.. we’ve seen it all

TiredGamer2h ago

Agreed. The first remake was stylistically beautiful and a very noticeable improvement over the original in every regard. And it was reasonably priced and sustainably developed (i.e. not some mega big budget game that was do or die for the developer).

Zeke684h ago

Thanks for the spoilers... :(

RonnySins4h ago

Another day, another remake. Ugh!

SonyStyled3h ago

If you played the original print I can see your annoyance. I didn’t and probably a lot others the past 20 years.

Was it any good? Would you suggest playing the original print of 2, or suggest the remake? Just wondering because I didn’t play the originals as I had an n64 at the time

TiredGamer2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

I played the first remake and absolutely loved it. The quality of life and control improvements were very noticeable. I tried playing the PS1 original and gave up halfway through at the janky controls.

Expect the same for part 2. The PS1 version is janky as heck, but I would gobble up an improved remake day one.

The beauty of this kind of stuff is that I find myself enjoying more retro gaming today, so a relatively low budget classic remake (call it a single-A release) is exactly what is missing from first party releases in the modern age. I don’t want every game to be an unsustainable AAAA endeavor that is just overwhelming in every regard. Truly miss when game releases could be modest-sized surprises and still be commercially successful/viable.

Bring on more quality classic remakes!

Knightofelemia4h ago

Such a good series I also wish Sony would dust off Wild Arms and Legend of Dargoon even the Legend series needs to see the light again.

Omegasyde3h ago

My bets on new Socom and/or Wolverine (since Deadpool 3 is dropping in the summer).

I think one after this state of play will be PS5 pro preorder
