Why did SC die? Because in devs minds SC means less copies sold; in platform holders it means less online subscriptions.

Its a win-win for them.

XStation4pio_Pro2599d ago (Edited 2599d ago )

seems there are plenty of online and free to play online that are thriving. also.... making video games is a business. developers may love what they do, but they still need to make money to do it - especially when they are owned by bigger companies. they don't make you games hoping you'll just think they're cool.

slate912599d ago

Thats an extremely negative way to look at it.
SC died because everything in the world is online now. And little billy would rather hop on his switch at home and play with his 8 friends online instead of his one friend in person with half a screen.
And those who played the glory days of SC back in the day now have jobs and responsibilities such as family. Too busy to coordinate a time for your friend to come over to play when you all can sneak in an hour or two online for some matches and quickly log off...

danny8182599d ago

Well to me it died because Internet connects everyone wireless in the comfort of their own home, subscriptions makes more money along with less invested money on games in development.

davand1142599d ago

Yep. In some games that had local multiplayer the devs removed it from the new version, like in Halo.

i know people like to demonize developers for this stuff but look at reality. split screen gameplay was the ONLY way possible to play "multiplayer" back in the day. Technology changes and so do peoples habits and how they utilize things . Its a natural evolution. Yes developers need to make money and sell as many copies as possible, but the more effective way to do this is by following demographic trends, and those trends all point to online play. surveys about this stuff and qc and user testing all go into game dev, and if the majority of people wanted split screen or whatever, it would be addressed.

These days most people that have a current gen console are also very likely to have a broadband internet connection and a subscription to the console network of choice... so.. play with one friend that has to come over to your house, or play with 2-32 other people including your friends from the comfort of your own home. i dunno about you guys, but after a long day of work and also being married, the last thing thats gonna happen is me driving across town to play my friend at a game - especially when i could just go into another room instead.

the internet changed things guys. socializing, sharing, gaming. its all affected. nobody uses pay phones anymore, nobody uses a telephone operator and no one has to visit a physical store to buy whatever they want. i don't see how this is any different. why do we still use optical media for that matter?? its the slowest, most inefficient and unreliable way to store and load data.

fenome2599d ago

Yeah, but options are nice. I'm not into online multiplayer, I'd rather play with the the people I live with that are actually sitting right next to me.

Borderlands 3 better keep the split screen, it's me and the wife's favorite game for local co-op.

TheCommentator2599d ago

Indeed. It's good to hear 343 is committed to local coop on all its' future releases though. Mastablasta seems to forrget that people have families that live together, but why I should buy the kids another Xbox so we can play in the same house instead of having a split screen option?

zuul90182599d ago (Edited 2599d ago )

Sure but what if you go to your friends to hang out and just wanna play some halo? You know not after a long days work, like a weekend. Can't anymore. So you have to pack your system every time if you guys wanna play some stuff? Thats a lot of crap to deal with just to play some games.

As for the last paragraph, it sort of goes against your argument. Youre saying we dont need payphones, operators, or stores? So get rid of that option entirely? Why stop there, work online, purchase everything online, pay bills online, heck why have anything outside your house at all? You dont need it.

XXanderXX2599d ago

Its not , plus I rather not share my TV screen & my mates can eat their own food , destroy their controllers from the comfort of their own homes .

Stogz2599d ago (Edited 2599d ago )

I hope it does, it sucks more and more games are dropping this as nothing it better than playing with your friends in the same room together.

Veneno2599d ago

Wtf? There are so many local multiplayer games right now. Do your damn research.

annoyedgamer2599d ago

Most major FPS titles have dumped split screen.

That genuinely, genuinely sucks. The reboot has clear flaws, but it really felt like a solid first step for this team to receive *greater* investment.

Alone in the dark is a fun game so that's unfortunate

Something about recreating old school graphics in an era of HD high poly photo realism just hits a spot. I'm not nostalgic cause I mostly played GameCube and GB/A, but it's a visual style that gets over looked even by indies.

Definitely a fan project. Terrible hand animations. Some characters have very bad body proportions. Some look like little kids in adult bodies. Some have short arms, small head, big hips and so on.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos3h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger882h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).
