meh, I know I will get tons of use out of this thing. For me personally this appeals to me in many ways minus the pricing. I think everything is priced a little too high (handheld, accessories and games). Here's hoping that Nintendo makes some adjustments to help with sales down the road.

The price of the accessories and all the bogus online are the only things I'm highly disappointed in, that said nearly every game they showed minus the motion control stuff has me interested and i love portable devices, Zelda, Mario, Xenoblade 2, Octopath Traveler, Bomberman, RMX, Fire Emblem Warriors from Team Ninja then later down the line the inevitable Monster Hunter & Pokemon games ect. it won't have great 3rd party support but given that the tablet is only a couple inches bigger than a 3DS XL it doesn't surprise me, i have my PC & PS4/Xone anyway. Hopefully they can have a steady stream of games coming out similar to what they did with the 3DS after 3D Land & MK8, they can't expect it to sell past this year if they don't.

I can really understand your position, when i bought my WII U I was still living with my 2 younger brothers, while everyone was crying splitscreen and COOP in local games was dead, I was having a blast playing mario kart, nintendo land, super smash, super mario party, wii u party and so many other games, its a damn shame people will downvote you just for disagreing with what theyfeel its right, this coming from someone owing a wii u, a ps4 and a pc for gaming.

All gaming is great and adapted to different type of people, only reason I wont get a switch at least on release, is because i have not much use for the portability it offers, mostly because i have a ps4 + 2 steam links, that allow me to play all my pc games eithert on bedroom or living room, since I left home i lost a bit the appeal for the splitscreen games / coop, hence why i decided to get a ps4, funny enough, i keep playing games i could easily get on my PC just to have an excuse to play on the PS4 while I wait for kingdom hearts which was my main reason to getting a ps4 in 1 place.

I definitely got more than $350 worth of use from the thing.

I too am getting Resident Evil 7, Horizon Zero Dawn, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 Remix (all preordered) and possibly Mass Effect. But I am ALSO getting Zelda Breath of the Wild.

I'm excited about it. It's exactly what I've wanted for a long time. I got fed up with the disc thrashing in my Ps3, and I refuse to buy another disc-loading console because of the slowness and waiting.

The N64 is still to date my favourite console. I never waited for a game to load on the N64. I'm hoping the Switch can repeat that.

I'm also happy they ditched the touchscreen controller that the Wii U had. It will be nice to have a controller with just sticks and buttons again.

I think the price is fair. I will get one at launch, if I can find one available. Nintendo is notorious for never shipping enough units for anything.

The only thing I'm not excited about, is paid online. But I might suffer it, if the games are good.

Can't agree. Even though I didn't buy the Wii U. Bought the wii and only used it for a month before selling it. And bought the 3ds. I would like Nintendo to keep making consoles. They bring a lot of interesting ideas and unique ways of playing video games something Sony and Microsoft hasn't done. As much as I would like the switch right now I'll wait about a year for more games to be pumped out. Besides I have to many PS4 games I still haven't been able to beat.

and that really is the crux of the issue. Nintendo does bring alot of interesting ideas to the table, but they are absolutely tone-deaf and refuse to listen to the market. The Switch is a console that isn't really made for western audiences. The last nintendo system I bought was the gamecube, because of its shear horsepower. Smash (still) looks great on the system, same goes for Metroid Prime, Twilight Princess, Mario Sunshine, Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg, and Wind Waker. The gamecube was exciting because it showed that Nintendo WANTED to compete with the big boys. It had the power to back it up, and had some excellent mature experiences as well.

The people who played Nintendo back then have grown up, gotten jobs and are probably raising families now. Gamers in general are getting more comfortable with more difficult games at a far faster rate than before. Hell, kids who can barely walk are adept at mobile games on Ipad.

Charge 399 for a badass console, with a plethora of games with split screen support and online multiplayer, improve value of online subscription by giving away more then one NES game a month, and let third party developers do their thing.

Give me more then Zelda and Mario.

Hell, I'd say that most of their games should resemble Bungie's Halo 2 effort. Where you can play split screen with four players, and bring them ONLINE to play against others. Now that is something that is sorely lacking these days, and I'd love Nintendo prioritize that aspect.

Who's betting Microsoft throws a ton of money at Nintendo for exclusivity on a lot of those Nintendo exclusives. Nintendo on Xbox will sell some Xboxes in Japan. They could give Nintendo 25 million each for exclusivity on the next Zelda, Mario and a few other things and finally sell consoles in Japan.

PlayStation 1 PlayStation 2 Playstation 3 and clearly PlayStation 4 did not just receive all their sales overnight in a single month.

They got their sales from continuous support and a boatload of games.

To my understanding they literally have millions and millions of fans of Zelda in Mario Kart that could sell this product within the first several months what you have to question where are going to be the consumers that are going to keep this platform afloat wants those diehards purchase the platform? Platforms don't sell simply based on how they do the first couple months they sell based on the support that they received four years and if we you was any indication I don't have that much faith in this company to outperform the PlayStation in regards to its consistency.

As of right now the PlayStation is the most consistent console Series in the history of Gaming and if Nintendo is going to beat anyone they should be looking to beat the PlayStation series and for them to do that they actually have to put up or shut up

On the contrary, I'm glad Nintendo has enough respect for gaming to be constantly innovating and offering something different rather than moar power. Maybe VR will work out this time for Sony, but that's nothing new. Maybe AR will be something. Nintendo already has some of that (albeit nothing crazy).

A hybrid, portable console isn't even necessarily an identical market. Nintendo has dominated portables for years. They're now releasing a super powerful portable. It also acts as a home console, which is a great feature. I don't love the pricing, but I appreciate what they're doing. Plus, if they attract the 3DS/Vita market, they could still sell a lot of these.

Would I love a Nintendo console that got quality versions of every big third party series? Of course. Then I wouldn't have had to buy a PS4. However, I still appreciate (and want) the differences and innovation they provide and know for sure that it's going to be a quality system with a number of really great games.

I bought XboxOne, instead. I got Rare Replay 30 games including Banjo Kazooie, Perfect Dark, Conkers Bad Fur Day Etc, Gears of War remastered with all DLC, Witcher 3, Fallout 4, RE Revelations 2, Metro Redux and Last Light remastered, COD Modern Warefare, all for $323!

I am not getting Switch till there are more games for it. If Zelda ends up being okay on Wii U I will be more than happy to pick it up for that. If it chugs too much on Wii U, I will hold off for the Switch version.

It's not really all that much bigger than my 3DS XL, and I bring that thing with me everywhere. Nintendo is first and foremost looking at their home market in Japan I believe, opposed to Sony, who receives most of their sales abroad. Home console sales in Japan are almost nonexistent comparatively. They do however, love handhelds, especially the 3DS. Culture and lifestyles are different there, and many people game on the go. I imagine the Switch to be very successful in Japan, especially when a Monster Hunter and Pokemon game are inevitably released.

Currently there is a group of gamers, like myself that love Zelda games, want to play mario again, but cannon justify spending 400$ on a console for 1 or 2 games. they are losing sales because of these choices they make on the hardware side. i dont game on the go so i would be leaving it at home, and unfortunetly, the handheld isn't nearly powerful enough to justify.

If nintendo went software only, and maybe stuck with the hand held market (which at the end of the day the switch is) it would open up their doors to approx. 40Million people would would be playing their games.

Looking back, the PS2 is probably one of the only consoles that ever had a great launch lineup. Could argue the NES as well, but that was a much different era. Everything quality that released at the time was practically groundbreaking. The Super Nintendo actually only launched with 3 games. The N64 launched with TWO, Pilot Wings and Mario 64. People act like Nintendo just started doing this.The 3DS launch was awful, and it took pricedrops, and a couple of years before sales really began to pick up steam.

Im not as concerned about the game drought on switch compared to wii u. The reason is that it took nintendo 8 months to release another first party game after launch and they released 5 in total in 8 months after launch. Switch on the other hand has quite a few lined up already. Each week new games are being released.
For me this will never be my primary console. But they make some of the best games i have played so i will buy one. If i hate it i can always sell it on for a profit if they undersupply.

Just curious have you played pikmin or splatoon? I never tried splatoon ( my wii u actually died on me and i refused to buy another) but am keen to try it.

Pikmin 3 though was a game i only purchased as it was the first game nintendo released after launch ( 8 months later). Surprisingly it is one of my favourite all time games. I thought it looked stupid until i played it.

With games they have far more due for release in the first 8 months than they did on the wii u. So there won't be the same shortage. I also read that mario is pretty much finished, they are deliberately holding it back along with smash bros and possibly pikmin world.

What I'm saying is more so in the general sense and not necessarily in the personal sense because if I had a crap load of money I would definitely be purchasing the switch but it's difficult to justify spending such an amount of money when so many games are coming out.

I just see so many of the same mistakes that happened with the Wii U happening with the switch and I just cannot trust this company to believe that things will be different this time because this company is actually said that multiple times in order for me to fully trust that things are different the launch needs to be out of this world they have the money to have purchased the team's years ago to have made this launch successful.

When it's happening for the 3rd or 4th time it's no longer a "mistake" it's now deliberate.

It's just every single time they release a new platform there is a series of the same mistakes that they're making over and over again which just shows it's very clear they cannot properly adapt to the market.

Nintendo have made some of the best consoles of all time, if the industry wasn't focused on shiny graphics and microtransactions, they would still be king.

They are currently making some stupid decisions for the Switch but even with them, we DO NOT DESERVE their games without buying a console.

it depends on how you see it..i think the n64, gamecube, 3ds and wii u and definitely the ds were all great consoles with a variety of great games that i have enjoyed with my friends, brothers and family, i have yet to see games like mario kart and smash bros from ms or sony that can match the enjoyment when you have people over and are having a great time..that is just my opinion...same goes for sony in which they also excel on some aspects specifically making new and awesome ips while ms does have some games that i like but they need to step up their game which i think they will

If Nintendo's plan is to directly compete for the same market share as Sony and Microsoft then yes, Nintendo will probably stop making home consoles because they can't beat Sony with doing the same as Sony.

You already have your paid online services, game library, achievements and friends across multiple platforms already. I have 200 digital games on my Xbox and really have no desire to stop using it. Nintendo consoles are primarily for first party games, and have been for a long time. The smartest thing they can do, is to not produce a complimentary handheld this generation, and stick with one platform for all their games, to give the Switch the most value possible. Across the 3DS and Wii U together, there are TONS of great games to play. Problem is, you needed two separate pieces of hardware to play them. It's worked for them in the past, but I think those days might be over. That said, I pre-ordered my Switch the first night and can't wait xD

The biggest issue with the Switch is the obvious lack of games - a mistake that Nintendo will regret as this was exactly one of the complaints about the Wii U. The Switch is a much more refined console release but the hardware alone is not enough to get gamers behind the release. There has to be a large roster of games and 2 is not going to cut it. The console needs at least 4 or 5 major new games on Day One and then a steady stream of remasters, new IPs and even third party releases over the next 6 months to a year in order to consolidate and build sales of the hardware. It isn't like Nintendo does not have the IPs to create new games from.

The other major issue is how expensive the hardware is for what it delivers. Sorry, but the tech is over-priced and then you have the extras we will need to buy. I am not only talking about the pro-controller which for me is a must but also storage - MicroSD cards, and finally the over-priced games. All this points to a company that is confident that many of us will pay through the nose in order to have access to the likes of Zelda, Mario and Super Smash Bros.

Another issue is that by making the console less powerful than either the PS4 or the Xbox One, Nintendo is making third party game development for the Switch much harder and this is a lesson they learnt with the Wii U so one can only take away the fact that Nintendo are not exactly bothered about third party support and that is baffling. Porting existing games is the easiest way to support a new console and having ports of, say, Red Dead Redemption, would have given the new console instant credibility.

The article is correct in that it would be better for gamers if Nintendo just turned to making games and forgot about hardware once and for all. The last major Nintendo console I really enjoyed was the Gamecube with games like Star Fox Assault, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Tales of Symphonia, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Luigi's Mansion, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Wind Waker - damn, just making this list up now makes me realize how far Nintendo has fallen - just look at the list! This is not even half of all the great games on the 'cube! What I wouldn't give for a new Metroid Prime game or any game for that matter that could make me enjoy Nintendo IPs like I did on the Gamecube. Anyway, given how expensive the Switch, the accessories and the games are, I guess I will just have to remember the good old days and enjoy gaming on the PS4.

I am pretty sure that Zelda is better than any game that Xbox One, or PS4 launched with. If you don't remember both the PS4, and X1 launches were followed by better 3rd party titles, and lackluster exclusives. The same follows with the PS3, and Xbox 360 launch. If they release a console Pokemon game, and follow through with the Mario game it will be actually quite a good year for the release in terms of exclusives. However, they do need 3rd party support in some fashion that are not FPS.

Even if they were to say that now, that statement wouldn't hold much water as they can easily do a 180 down the road if the Switch sells well, which it may not. At this point it's pointless conjecture to try and speculate where Nintendo will be in five years.

I think if Switch doesn't take off they will do one more console, this time focusing on what it seems most gamers are wanting; a graphically powerful console with basic controllers.

I love Nintendo and plan on getting the Switch, though I'm skeptic that it will succeed. I love all there consoles and the fact there so different from others. But it doesn't seem to be clicking with the game community and game developers like 3rd party support just hasn't been there for them. I hope Switch turns the corner and is a hit but again very skeptic.

I would be okay and even excited if they just released a powerful system next. But I definitely want Nintendo to be a console and hardware company. Hated what happened to Sega.

In all seriousness people just don't get it. Nintendo is not going to just stop making consoles consoles because people go online and say they can. You believe after the falling out with Sony that their going to say hey Sony you shafted us let's us pay you to put our games on your consoles. How soon do we forget they make no money by doing what Sony and Microsoft fan boys want them to. For one they have to pay a percentage of profit to Sony, pay for all the other stuff also. i think soon a people stop kidding themselves we can all focus on positivity

I don't think Nintendo is doing a good job producing software and using their IPs. I think they would be better off producing software only; I think the real solution for Nintendo is better management. (they're just like Sega.. poor management).

The all solid-state media does give it better hardware than the PS4 and Xbone. We are about to see a repeat of the Ps1 versus N64 generation. Yes the Ps1 discs could store more data, but the loading times were horrendous. The transfer rate of optical discs are total crap and both the Ps4 and Xbone rely on it. The N64 had much faster data transfer with it's cartridges, than modern day bluray optical discs do. The cartridges and SDXC cards in the Switch are all solid state media and will hugely reduce loading times.

The only way the Xbone or Ps4 could possibly compare, is if the user replaced their HDD with an SSD and only bought downloadable games. But Switch users will have that same experience for all their games, at no extra cost or hassle.

As for the CPU and graphics, all I care is that it's HD, and it is. I don't have a 4k TV and have no plans to get one in the near future. To be honest, I don't think I could tell the difference. I can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. There was a huge jump between CRT's and HDTV's, but I'm not seeing the same difference between HDTV's and 4k.

What I'm more concerned about, is paid online. I think that was a bad move by Nintendo and is what will hurt sales more than anything else.

I'm seeing a lot of whining about the Switch. In one breath they say it costs too much, in the other breath they say it should have more horsepower. You can't have both, people. I think $300 is a good price for what it's going to be.
