Why I'm Worried The Nintendo Switch Is Just Another Wii U

When your console comes out in less than two months, and you just gave an hour-long presentation on that console, it seems more than a bit strange that the reaction of press and fans alike is to scour the internet to hunt down exactly what games are being released with it at launch. But that’s exactly what happened after Nintendo’s Switch presentation yesterday, which ended with the reveal of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as a launch title, but had everyone else saying, “And…?” afterward.

Yeah, I wasn't really impressed. From the price, voice chat not integrated into the system, paid online and a weak launch lineup. Nintendo going for that classic bait and "Switch" ;)

Nintendo seems to still be chasing after Wii's ghost with that tacky long segment dedicated to showing people awkwardly playing with JoyCons

Your saying you don't want to play a game where you milk a cow and then look somebody in the eyes while doing it?

Chaos_Order2651d ago

A great game to play with the in-laws. Brings families together.

XD

Nintendo needs to understand those people have moved to mobile phones. They're not going to buy another gaming console.

Chaos_Order2651d ago

Not just that, but the Wii was much cheaper when it released, and came with a game packed in. In the UK the Wii was £180 including Wii Sports. The Switch will be £280 plus another £50 for a game. Casuals are not going to drop that kind of money, even if they think it looks fun.

Get ready for some kind of half-ass ambassador program and the PR spin that follows. Nintendo needs to nail E3 this year or this will be WiiU 2.0

I just don't see where all this negativity is coming from.

I own a XB1,Wii U and just bought a PS4 but I'm most excited for the Switch.

Not sure why all the hate. It looks like a cool system with what will be a unique gaming library.

* Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild & Super Mario Odysee will be two of the best games every created.

There will be good games for it...just takes a bit of time.

* Just bought a PS4 and while there are a ton of games for it......there aren't really a whole lot that appeal to me at the moment or games that I " Have to play" like Mario and Zelda are.

Give it some time....let it all play out...it's going to be a fun system to use.

The problem is that your views are the reverse of most people.

Most people don't HAVE to play Mario and Zelda. The Nintendo fan base has been diminishing for years, and they've done very little to grow that fan base. Look what they did with the mobile Mario game, they could have used that to grow their fan base, instead they priced it way above the norm for mobile games.

Chaos_Order2651d ago

That is fair enough; nobody else's opinion should get in the way of your enjoyment. If Mario and Zelda is your bread and butter, go ahead and enjoy yourself.

But for a lot of people, it just isn't enough. :/

You don't see where the negativity is coming from? $299 and it doesn't have a pack-in game. Weaker than the Xbox One. 32 GB storage. $110 for a joycon+dock set (basically required for ARMS). Paid online. "Free" monthly NES/SNES games only last a month. Voice chat requires a phone. Two-and-a-half hour battery life undocked. Horrible launch lineup, with the only notable game being available on the Wii U. Pathetic list of upcoming games shows one first-party exclusive game per season, ala Wii U.

Hell, reports are saying the Joycon aren't even symmetrical, have fun playing the the crappy side in two-player games. What were they doing for the two years that they left the Wii U basically abandoned, because it sure as hell wasn't creating games for this. There is absolutely no reason to get this prior to Christmas, and even then you'd be getting it for one exclusive, Mario Odyssey.

Did you not watch the most unimpressive console reveal ever?

Omnislashver362651d ago (Edited 2651d ago )

I definitely want to play Super Mario Odyssey but the graphics are really disappointing. The aliasing is through the roof on that game and texture detail isn't much greater. I would have definitely bought the Switch if it were a stationary console. At $250 a stationary console would have 3-4x the power. 3-4x more power, and $50 cheaper. I just can't buy Super Mario Odyssey knowing it could have been better for cheaper. The aliasing is plain ugly on that game.

The online seems really questionable, I get having it connected to your phone makes it easier when you are on the go, but I just want a basic on console system. Just need more info.
