Sony's 2017: Steady as she goes as PS4 goes big on games

Eurogamer: On 1st January, Sony put out a video showing off the PS4 console exclusives coming out in 2017. I spotted 23 games, a mix of Sony-made games coming only to PS4 and games from external developers coming to PS4 as console exclusives. It's a tidy list of titles. Let's have a look.

I think Sony have reached full speed now. It's not just the quantity and seemingly high quality of games that have released recently and are coming in 2017, it's the way the are spread nicely throughout the year.

It really seems like they never rush to achieve a release anymore, they'd rather push it back to the next convenient slot in their release calendar, all the while applying extra polish and fine tuning. There were 1 or 2 games early on that you could tell they just wanted to get out there, but it hasn't felt like that for years now, which is awesome!

Quality + Quantity + Exclusives + Regular Scheduling = Winning Formula, surely.

PS4 is gonna kill 2017!

Hell yes, game delays don't even bother me anymore, on ps4 at least. They delayed gt sport....no prob gave me more time for multiplatform.

They delayed gravity rush 2, no prob gave me a window to purchase the last guardian.

Persona 5 got delayed, thank God as I don't know how I was gonna purchase ff12 remaster, horizon zero dawn, nier automata and persona 5 all in the same month.....as a matter of fact I think they need to delay some more lol cuz that month is still jam packed and nioh is releasing soon as well.

Point is delays don't even matter much anymore on ps4 if your an open minded gamer as the games like the ones above and God of War 4, gt sport, spiderman, knack 2, the last of us 2, wipe out HD remaster, days gone, ff7 remake, crash bandicoot, ni no kuni 2, dreams, detroit become human, death stranding and Dragon Quest will be there some where to fill the holes.

This is all without counting multiplats

2017 is going to be even more crazy for the Ps4. My special anticipation is Horizon : zero dawn and Ni-oh. God of war 4 too please

peewee110162665d ago

My god... My wallet already hurts... -.- Starting with RE7 KH2.8 and Horizon my god lol

' Now the PS4 Slim, Pro and PlayStation VR are all out the door, it's time for the company to focus on pumping out new games. That, for me, is welcome. Neither the Slim, the Pro nor the VR headset have done much for me.

But nothing on the list truly excites me. I look at Detroit through the lens of David Cage's last game, the awful Beyond, and it makes me crease with concern. I can't help but feel Ninja Theory is struggling to get across what Hellblade is trying to do. And then there's Knack 2. Knack. 2.

In short, Sony's got a relatively quiet year ahead, but it does have a load of games to get PlayStation through it.

Sony will get a taste of its own medicine when Microsoft surely hammers home the "most powerful console in the world" message in its marketing. I can't see that Sony has a compelling counter to that, so it'll no doubt point to its console exclusives for the year. AKA: this list.

Let's hit the YouTube comments to get a sense of what the players think.'

I dont know you guys but he seems very biased to me. Like many sites too
'Nothing on the list truly excites me' let that bit sinks in....'...REALLY???
Disgusting

Edit
To the disagrees: Explain 'NOTHING excites me' please for any non biased gamer. He seems to be more excited with Ms marketing of the Scorpio

Edit 2
If the like of HZD, Nier A, Detroit etc don't excite him, I'm sorry but he has no competence writing articles for Eurogamer.

Why o why2665d ago (Edited 2665d ago )

'I can't see that Sony has a compelling counter to that,'

Games, compelling ones at a more consistent rate and of a wider variety on a capable system that's cheaper with the added option of VR gaming. *exhales* Is that enough for the author

Edited

oh yeah....'NOTHING excites me'... caviar doesn't excite me either but guess what.....it excites others. The myopic justification has no place in journalism

People are reading the shit you quoted and thinking they are your words. Then they're hitting disagree.

There's TONNES of great stuff coming to PS4, everyone knows that. 2017 will be awesome for sure.

My bad. Thanks for pointing it out. Makes sense now

Yoko Taro Passes Respect; Says Stellar Blade Is "Much Better" Than Nier: Automata

Stellar Blade's creative director, Hyung Tae Kim, has also claimed that the game is deeply inspired by Nier: Automata.

shadowhaxor8d ago

I feel like Yoko is downgrading Automata because he has expressed multiple times he'd like to revisit the universe, but Squenix hasn't been keen about it. We know he loves 2B and would love to take her out for another spin, so maybe this is how he gets the company to think about it.

gold_drake8d ago

u do realise that Square made Nier a franchise after Automata right?

Taro is downplaying it cause hes not a snob like most of the directors that think their games are gods gifts to the human race.

he said the same thing when being interviewed during the development of Automata too, that he couldnt have done it without the devs.

hes just a humble guy rly.

shadowhaxor8d ago

I mean, Neir existed before Automata with both OG Niers and Drakenguard. I don't count NieR Replicant, since it's a remake of the OG games. Sure, we have Reincarnation, which is still stuck on mobile devices (quite a damned shame). I just remember Taro saying he'd love to revisit Automata if Square Enix lets him. I do recall there was supposed to be a sequel to Automata, but it wasn't confirmed and I'd imagine it was just for Reincarnation.

Enjoy Taro, he seems like a cool guy, who loves the ladies and is humble. But damn, don't put down one of your masterpieces.

I really liked Automata and cannot wait for Stellar Blade

isarai8d ago

I get he's giving them some credit, but i strongly disagree based on the demo. I honestly don't think any aspect of it feels good, it's not bad, it's just kinda ok but definitely a little jank. Also the souls like formula it is adopting does not help it imo. I was looking forward to this for years, now im just kinda let down honestly 🫤

fsfsxii5d ago

Its not a souls like, its a dmc-ish game with rpg elements. Any game with a third person camera and a sword is souls like to these buffoons

H98d ago

Man exputer can you stop putting words like that after someone's name, i read Yoko Taro Passes and just went blank

Snookies128d ago

Same... Awful way to word that title's beginning.

exputers8d ago

Whoops. Sorry to startle you.

H97d ago

It's alright brother, maybe I am just slow

Hereandthere8d ago

Thats because Sony had a heavy hand in funding and developing this game.

purple1018d ago

They sent in XDEV one of their traveling support studios to Korea to lend a hand if I’m not mistaken, Sony pulled out the big guns to help this studio

jwillj2k48d ago

(From the demo) Stellar has better direction in terms of stage layout if you like that ninja gaiden type feel. Nier is more polished by far.
