Seriously, Sony? #PatchDriveclub

Driveclub director, Paul Rustchynsky, confirmed to fans on Twitter that neither versions of Driveclub will support the Playstation 4 Pro.

A LOT of games will not be patched.. I have yet to get a PS4... I'm just simply at this point looking to get the old fat one on a cheap price and be done with all this.

2pacalypsenow2765d ago

Or just buy the pro and play the future games that will take advantage of the Pro's extra power?

Artemidorus2763d ago

It's not mega power it's an upgrade to upscale Playstation games.

You really think 4.18 TFLOP is going to provide you mind blowing stuff then get ready for shattered dreams.

Forn2763d ago

@Artemidorus

I've been blown away by OG PS4 games, so I think I'll be good with more than double the GPU power.

freshslicepizza2763d ago (Edited 2763d ago )

which games will take advantage of the pro's power? that's where the messaging goes flat and driveclub wont be one of them.

SonyWarrior2763d ago

@Artemidorus i think you mistaken what you said will be true about the scorpio when that comes out it will show very little difference between it and PS4 Pro

BattleAxe2763d ago

This is what I love about Sony.....

abstractel2763d ago

The studio is defunct, why would anyone in their right mind think that their games would be upgraded to PS4 Pro?

Unspoken2763d ago (Edited 2763d ago )

Save yourself a couple bucks and buy the older PS4 when everyone unloads and you can get a good deal.

Money is better spent on the console that will see a much bigger difference in power, Xbox One -> Scorpio, and still be faster than the Pro, and will be able to utilize your new 4K TV with higher resolution games and UHD playback.

donthate2763d ago (Edited 2763d ago )

Or just get a Scorpio and be done with Sony. The whole DriveClub debacle is a slap in the face, and then Sony goes out and bars EA Access, prevents cross-play with Xbox, and prevents mods (like on Fallout 4) while raising the cost of PS+.

Now Sony won't even bother supporting their own new console, PS4 Pro. Sony truly didn't leave PS4 Slim/Standard user behind, they instead gimped PS4 Pro. I guess you get what you pay for.

Vote with your wallet people! Vote with your wallet! #4theplayers

Ju2763d ago (Edited 2763d ago )

@donthate...isn't your name cynical? Just saying.

Exactly. Vote with your wallet. Nothing wrong with the existing PS4 and a great opportunity getting into it when more used boxes will become available. And while the PS4 pro won't see immediate massive upgrades (it still runs current games faster and more stable, user interface and all that will benefit from the 500MHz clock upgrade also), framerate will be more stable, and dynamic resolution scaling will probably always reach to full 1080p (while there aren't really a lot of games out which do that) - without patching any games. And that for roughly $50 more if you are in a market for a new machine. Just add a 1TB drive to the entry level PS4 (or XB1S) and you would totally miss out on that for JUST $50 more. 500GB runs out fast, I wonder if I should upgrade my standard or just trade it in against a Pro. It does not have any negatives vs. the Standard model, but it will only get the benefits in the long run. Scorpio is a year out. If you guys are lucky. the Pro will prepare a 4K market by then so you will actually have games to play on that machine. Or are you saying by some magic, the Scorpio will all of a sudden run existing XB1 games with new feature without patching?

AuToFiRE2763d ago

Extra power? I have 10 TFLOPs in my PC

DigitalRaptor2762d ago (Edited 2762d ago )

@ Artemidorus

The ones who's dreams are going to be shattered by the reality of Scorpio are going to be the ones putting all stock into it 12+ months ahead of time (based on a single number and PR claims), and the same ones that believed in the lies of cloud processing and DirectX 12 to save the XB1 from inferior experiences. Sony's hardware-based checkerboard rendering method is going to bring the image quality of upscaled 4K so close to native that it's going to be painful. Just like it's painfully cringeworthy to look back on the embarrassments that argued "the power of the cloud", DX12 and hidden GPU secret sauce.

But I'm probably not going to have a 4K screen so I won't care and will continue to play amazing looking supersampled 1080p games, with richer scene detail and improved frame rates.

People can boast 4K all they want, but who didn't have a 1080p screen in 2013?
Can't say the same about 4KTVs.
-----

@ Donthate

Damn.... the PS4 Pro really is exposing the Xbox fanboys and undercover shills like nothing else. Lack of an EA vault, mods and cross-play that XB1 is not going to get anyway, is definitely going to annoy the small percentage of gamers that ACTUALLY care about it, to switch to Scorpio.

Honestly, what you gonna bring up next? Lack of a non-gaming UHD Blu-ray drive? How about things like, you know, GAMES.... the things that Sony has more of and that are better?
-----

@ moldybread

King Disingenuous Liar is back. Aside from the bunch of games Sony has announced, and the mandate for PS4 Pro games from October onwards..... the messaging for PS4 Pro is stronger and more honest than Scorpio's that's for sure. The flip-flopping executives of Xbox have talked about "uncompromised 4K", whilst saying that not all games will be 60fps (which is a compromise), whilst committing all their first-party games to native 4K over higher-detail and better frame rates (the things they claimed to value more before Scorpio was announced), and thus third-party devs will experience compromise too. Xbox as usual, has way worse mixed messaging, but you're not bothered about talking about it. You'd rather throw shade at Sony.

You will want a 1TB at least, a Slim or old model with 1TB is $350/€350, for only 50 more you have the Pro...

All future games will have patches and older games still might get them anyways...

2763d ago
C-H-E-F2763d ago

I'm about to put mine on ebay for 200$. Seeing that I will be upgrading to the pro. If interested PM me.

XanderZane2763d ago (Edited 2763d ago )

Ok, so let me get this straight. All of the PS4 games will in fact play on the PS4 Pro, but unless all these developers patch the games to take advantage of the PS4 Pro 4K upscaling and HDR10 support, all the games will still run and look just the original PS4 version. Is this correct? Is this what Evo Studios are talking about. They won't patch their DriveClub or DriveClub VR game to take advantage of all the PS4 extra features and horsepower? That's totally screwed for Sony if it's only a few of their 1st party titles that are getting patched.

Ju2763d ago

Why would devs want that? For games which still sell this makes sense, but for games which reached their sweetspot in sales (= they aren't really selling any more) means, developers have to put work in those games without getting compensated. Or are you telling me, you'd pay for a Pro patch?

I do expect older games will still run slightly better. If they are unlocked, they will run a higher framerate. If they use some dynamic resolution scaling (which would dip below 1920 pix per line), those games will most likely never dip. Not a massive upgrade, but it will still make it more stable. BF will be close to stable 60fps, for example.

So, if you are in for a new machine, there is really no reason not to get that model.

jholden32492763d ago

Wii U was "twice the power" of PS3 and yet, for all intents and purposes, they look pretty close to the same. "Twice the power" is paltry. 10x-20x.... That's when it'll start blowing you away.

Obscure_Observer2763d ago

There goes the hype for Driveclub running FULL EFFECT on PS4PRO :(

Respect for Paul and his team. They slip a bit at first then work very hard on Driveclub to make on of the best racing games of this generation.

seeing as how the studio is defunct, i don't see how/why they would be able to work on something new for this game...

Majin-vegeta2765d ago (Edited 2765d ago )

Sony owns the IP...

@Ziggur Sony can just pass it off to another studio.

ziggurcat2765d ago (Edited 2765d ago )

Sony's not the developer.

edit: it's not that simple.

RogueOne2765d ago

Dude, did you even read this article?

The studio was defunct and still working on Driveclub VR. The creative director of DC said they would do the work but Sony hasn't asked.

RogueOne2765d ago

The original dev team!

(No one reads the articles, eh?)

Kribwalker2764d ago

It was a question that was also an answer. One of those, who do you think would make it, the same people making the VR version

PS Pro was just announced not too long ago... There are many games released already that I don't think they will all get patched either. Maybe only the most relevants will. Besides, Evolution was closed down. They should look for who would do the enhancement first

It is still possible, but like Paul said "they haven't been asked to do it yet," Propably because all the focus is being put in DC VR atm. Now Driveclub in HDR and 4k upscaled should look fkin outstanding, or maybe make the fps 60?

RogueOne2765d ago

The VR version is not getting PS4 Pro support...it's launching in October.

It's not happening unless we demand it.

yeahokwhatever2763d ago

I'd rather have a new motorstorm. Preferably back on an island or the desert. I'd accept a forest.

Germany72765d ago

I‘m still pissed about what happened with Evolution, Driveclub could be a great franchise with many sequels, we could have another Motorstorm too. But lets make another deal for multiplats like NMS and Everybody‘ Gone to the Rapture, right Sony?

Aloy-Boyfriend2765d ago (Edited 2765d ago )

Right! Let's also keep making more games with the other 11 studios they still have :×

Death2765d ago

Because having a 12th would have been too much? EVO didn't deserve to be closed after one bad launch. It would be interesting to see where Sony would be today if fans had a voice instead of blindly following every misstep.

Imalwaysright2764d ago

Fans? People that don't want the PS brand to be better aren't PS fans.

VoodooProject2763d ago

No one bought the game enough to keep the studio alive. Everyone opt for the free version and touted it was the best racing game but never supported it and bought the full version.

Truth.

For example. Look at No Man Sky. Not the greatest game, but was hyped and sold at $60. Made tons of money and company is still up and running.

game4funz2763d ago

Like @imalwaysright said.
Fans are the ones who critique sonys actions and demand better.

All the others are like you said, blind sheep.

Goldby2763d ago

@voodoo.

2 different cases here.
i bought drive club, yes some people waited for the free one.

Hello Games isn't owned by anyone, if they closed shop it would have been at their own dicision, not sony's

DeadlyOreo2763d ago

Lol at Death spewing troll comments on everything Sony related.

Maybe if you Microsoft fans didn't allow Microsoft to bend them over so much without speaking up they'd perhaps have a chance of outselling the PS4.

yeahokwhatever2763d ago

that launch was really, really bad.

KwietStorm_BLM2763d ago

lol people act like Sony closed the studio to put them on punishment. Sony doesn't exactly have endless funds laying around, and sometimes decisions have to be made to fit their financial responsibility. If you want to fund them, I'm sure they'd be willing to entertain your proposal.

DigitalRaptor2762d ago (Edited 2754d ago )

Ah yes.... Good old Death - the fanboy who pretends he's not.

Downplays Microsoft closing Lionhead Studio, where the staff didn't even know about their job losses or the studio closure until it was publicly announced it for everyone on the Internet to see. Those guys didn't deserve that treatment or for their game to be cancelled for nobody to be able to play it outside of beta trials. But... Microsoft.

Yet.... Talks about Sony closing Evolution Studios after one bad launch, even though Sony gave them plenty of notice for their redundancies and respectfully ensured that the whole team could go on in tact with the same company name and culture over at Codemasters, and make amazing racing games together again, on all platforms. Sometimes things don't work out, but there's a right way and a wrong way to handle closures.

And there's a clear cut way in which Microsoft handles things, compared to Sony. One is respectable and the other is despicable and rancid. You only have to look at their recent history, including things like expectations put on the developers of Phantom Dust and the ongoing Lionhead treatment.

Really, you even had the gall to LIE about the DriveClub VR project being cancelled despite no evidence supporting it. What does that say about you or the validity of what you go around saying about Sony and their direction? Not much in all honesty.

Would be interesting to see where Microsoft would be today if they let their studios make new IPs and trust in their vision over a number of years. You know... instead of closing down 8 of them earlier this year in one foul swoop and thus having the fewest first-party studios they've had in years. That is better for the Xbox brand though...... right?

What about all those delays of first-party Xbox games, that Sony gets all the attention for, but Xbox fanboys ignore in their own back yard? What about all the failed new IP this gen at the hands of Microsoft? What about the pre-requisite of being an Xbox fan in 2016, and having wait 10 months for a quality AAA exclusive to hit their box?

Seems like Xbox fans - like you Death - go blind for these things, and many would rather boast about a console they aren't close to knowing even a fraction about yet, and a non-gaming Blu-ray drive that makes use of a TV they didn't care about having until Microsoft told them it was the future, about 15 months ahead of time.
-------

@ Death (continued)

MotorStorm Apocalypse also had a poor & unfortunate launch too in 2011, and didn't do well for Sony.
MotorStorm RC's reception might be worth questioning too.
This is not "one bad launch", but why am I not surprised to see you pretending it is?

DriveClub VR wasn't reported by anyone that would have actually had a source. I thought you pride yourself on that. Usually you are the one to try and outsmart others by digging up facts and links, so that's not convincing of an excuse you've used either. You made it up yourself and/or spread a lie that was nowhere confirmed.

The rest of my post (of course) you don't wish to address, but deflect on me, because you know it's all true and yet you don't want to admit it, or expose the double standards of the Xbox fanboys that you love to defend. Reminds me of Gangsta_red, cause that's exactly what he does too. Focus on what you think you can outsmart, and ignore the rest and make the argument about good ol' DR, rather than your own disingenuousness.

Death2762d ago

@DR,

The closure of both studios sucked. EVO shouldn't have been closed after one bad launch no matter how you want to spin it. The launch of DC was horrible, but I don't regret buying the game. DC:VR was reported as being cancelled, not something I "made up". Glad to see its coming out.

The rest of your post is typical DR. Thanks for the reply.

Former Blizzard President Suggests Players Should Have Option to Tip Developers

Former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra recently suggested an interesting concept that has sparked a debate among gamers - the idea of being able to tip developers after completing a game.

LG_Fox_Brazil4d ago

If I had a 100% way to be sure that this money would go to a fund or a reserve dedicated only to the guys who develop the games, be them designers, artists, programmers and so on, I could think about it.

But we all know that this 'tip' would only end up in a publisher's CEO pocket to buy a new yacht, so, no, I ain't tipping anyone anytime soon on this industry

neutralgamer19923d ago

Exactly these companies were raising money for good causes and gamers were donation and come to find out they are keeping a good chunk of be pie

PapaBop3d ago

Yeah tip your developer, 5% proceeds go to developer, 95% to the publisher or whoever. Isn't tipping for staff not making minimum wage? How about they just pay their developers properly and like you know, give them fair bonuses? Too much to ask from Blizzard these days, Kotick saw to that and is now laughing all the way to the bank.

MrDead3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

It's the t**ts at the top looking at ways to cut devs wages and get the players to tip them like waiting staff, and I'll guarantee a percentage is skimmed and kept by Activision Blizzard. This is 100% for shareholder and CEO playouts.

Popsicle3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I have to agree with this. On the surface tipping devs sounds like a great idea, but in the end it leads to pay cuts and subsidization of pay. Tips then become an expectation or the devs “can’t make a living.” Lastly, especially in the US, tip culture has gotten out of control, and it serves as an excuse not to properly pay employees. Sounds good but doesn’t end well.

drizzom3d ago

@ Popsicle

I think your right on the nose with how much tipping has become rampant. Instead of it being a relationship directly between the customer and the developer or employee, it now has a middle man ingrained in the system. DoorDash is one example. It ends up becoming a metric where the company can measure 'just how much more money you are willing to part with' before raising the price on the main product.

1Victor3d ago

Uh so they’re trying triple dip or more we buy the game that they’re already withholding/cutting content for dlc we was told that season pass would help the developers thrive we felt for it.
Now on top of all that plus their sales bonus they want tips enough is enough whatever happens to you create/built a good game get a bonus for sales milestones you care about your game and community we reward you with more sales not for doing 3/4 of a game then save the other 1/4 for dlc and passes after

raWfodog3d ago

The 'tip' is me buying your game in the first place.

S2Killinit3d ago

Very well said. If it was possible to send the money to either the developer or some organization for the betterment of gaming, sure. But we all know that will not be the case.

Rynxie3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

No, it would go to those on the top. They will still fire developers, have a bunch of microtransactions, raise prices of games and so on.

So they eventually don't pay their workers and depend on our tips to pay them like the case with waiters!

Deeeeznuuuts3d ago

That kind of practice is only normal in the states, as far as I know anyway, what a backwards system

H93d ago

No it's as well in a every country that wants to amercanize

bloop3d ago

Ireland is literally the first stop across the pond and we don't have a tipping culture. The only establishments here that would expect a tip are the tourist haunts that Americans visit. Other than that, you might tip in a restaurant as a sign of gratitude for great service and waiting staff would be paid a full wage anyway.

Rebel_Scum3d ago

Tipping is not customary iin most countries dude. Get a passport lol.

Jin_Sakai4d ago

Is this a joke? How about the big wigs giving up some of their pay for their hard working developers.

The Reason Sega Lost The 32-Bit War? The 32X, Says Yosuke Okunari

"The company was unable to focus enough on its main hope"

timeextension.com
ApocalypseShadow8d ago

Nope. Going back to the 32X as the reason Sega lost that generation doesn't go back far enough before the Saturn.

Sega executives need to blame themselves as to why Sega lost that generation. Not Saturn. Not 32X. Not Sega CD. Nope. Executives were the reason why. It wasn't the hardware. Those devices were either dropped early or released to soon resulting in a developer backlash the hurt the game catalog. They really shouldn't have been made at all because they should have planned their next move more carefully. It has nothing to do with the devices. Poor leadership decisions and lack of unity within the company are what happened.

Love how blame is always shifted away from what is the truth. Writing a book placing the blame on the 32X isn't the truth.

solideagle8d ago

I am pretty sure there are documentaries (Youtube) around it which highlights these points. I had Sega Mega drive and NES growing up but that's about it. I didn't even know there was a war going on between these companies but I do remember thinking why I can't play Sonic cartridge on Nintendo or Mario on Sega :D

FinalFantasyFanatic7d ago
