Death Star DLC is the Star Wars Battlefront Expansion We’ve Been Waiting For | Geek Culture

We can finally say: “That’s no moon!”. One of the deadliest weapons in the galaxy, and my all-time favourite space station is finally making its debut in the Star Wars Battlefront Death Star Digital Expansion. This is the third digital expansion pack, and is out this week as a paid DLC, and FREE for Season Pass holders.

No it isn't. It is the expansion we warned you about.

When it was first announced that there would be no space battles in Battlefront, those of us that voiced dissent stating that such engagements were a staple of Battlefront, we were attacked repeatedly...and on this site by mad hordes telling us that Battlefront wasn't about space battles. Never mind plenty of us were veterans of BF1 & 2. We were shouted down and attacked. But we fired several warning volleys that Dice would include space battles later as a paid DLC. And now here we are. I love how they say its FREE (in capital letters) to Season Pass holders.

I hear you morganfell and I really want all the expansions for sw battlefront but EA went dirty on this game and I refuse to support it anymore. I did buy the first expansion though so I guess they did get their money from me.

The free thing is funny.

@morganfell

Whoever you are talking about Im sure they know how shady the game industry can get and I dont think they care or are so new to gaming that it doesnt bother them. Everyone knows since launch that battlefront was nothing more than a cash grab for EA and its continues to be to this day. Thats why I stopped supporting the game when they came out spoke the truth about why things were cut out and became dlc and with it being rushed out but sadly most people had already purchased it by then. I would say that the next battlefront game will suffer for this sale wise but its alot of people(even on this site) who will support and buy anything with no remorse so prepare yourself for more shady pratices like this in the new age gaming industry.

"I have been railing against this development plan since day one. This and idiotic matters such as no drivable AT-ATs. I had someone actually tell me if people were driving them rather than AI then they wouldn't get to the target.

Space Battles will be sold to the public. There will be some small concession such as a Space Battle trainer that lets you fight AI ships and a map or two. But by and large money is one of two factors driving no Space Battles, no Campaign, no Galactic Conquest, etc.

1 - The first reason there are no Space Battles, and a great many other Battlefront standard features is this: The utmost priority of EA/Dice is to ship this game on time. Shipping for the holiday so it will be prominent when the movie arries at Christmas is the single most import factor for EA.

Broken game? Doesn't matter.

Missing tons of features? Doesn't matter.

Stripping features makes it possible to complete to a degree (ha ha) and shove it out the door. It isn't important that Battlefront veterans purchase the game and enjoy it. It is important the Walmart shopper sees Star Wars on a game label, and bolstered by all the upcoming movie buzz and the holiday season, slaps down their money. That overrides anything.

Of course the latter factor, a stripped down game that can be half completed in time, possesses the added boon of allowing EA to profit handsomely later with massive DLC sales. Which brings us to the second factor.

2 - DLC profitability. EA intends to milk Star Wars like the fattest cow in the field. They will say "We just wanted to get it right for you the fans" but the truth is "We wanted to get a stripped game done and sell you the main parts later." The entire reason they made this moronic announcement stating all future BF4 DLC will be free was to show the gaming community what a great bunch of guys they are when you get to know them. Never mind they said no more DLC until BF4 is fixed....and then announced and shipped DLC again and again all to a broken game. People forget and forgive and now look what is about to occur. they should have made all DLC free after 4 months of a ridiculous abortion of a title.

Just because you worship the source material like it is your god doesn't mean you should stick your head in the sand and pretend the game will be great no matter what. But that is precisely the actions many people are taking - along with attacking any naysayers that are attempting to warn them. They want a Star Wars game so bad they are going to let EA break the entire gaming community open and over like a double barrel shotgun."

And of course as regards getting it out the door to meet a release date: http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

@Gaming4Life1981,

You are dead on the money. Far too many gamers have zero resolve and thus will always fall victim to their own inability to stave off playing a game and take a stand. This is why we not only have unwarranted paid DLC but unwarranted paid DLC for broken games. Because the public just bends over and takes it from these companies rather than unzipping the sheepskin and putting down their foot. EA is laughing at gamers all the way to the bank.

It is a shame with all the games a person could play, when some company pulls a dishonest stunt with some overly advertised title, most gamers will not say "I have a boatload of games to play and even more resolve not to help send gaming into the sewer." Now look where we are. 8GB patches for console games and gamers are to blame for buying these broken titles. All money does is encourage these companies. They feed on us like mindless succubi and they simply respond to what we demonstrate by our actions is permissible to do to us.

This Battlefront is a different game than previous Battlefronts, it's hard to compare. It isn't Battlefront 3, you can't expect it to have the same exact features as previous installments. It's simply Battlefront, it's a rebranding with Dice and the Frostbite 3. That being said, i think people are a little to rosey about the past Battlefront games. They weren't perfect, Battlefront 2 is a 78 Metacritic. The "single player campaign" was hardly a campaign at all.

Would it have been great to have space battles and Death Stars in the game at launch? Of course. Is it still an awesome looking DLC though? Definitely. Just bc you were upset that the launch day game omitted certain features doesn't make this DLC any less awesome looking. So are you mad that DICE made this DLC? Should they've just made some weapon skins instead for the last DLC? At least give credit where it's due, Death Star looks awesome. It seems that bc DICE didn't include every feature you wanted at launch, anything they do now is considered bad or greedy..

ShwaaMan2773d ago

You are most definitely NOT Tyler Durden

gigoran2773d ago

umm congratulations?
do you want a cookie or something?
you know, to take the taste of all that saltiness out of your mouth

Dirtnapstor2773d ago

This is a most enjoyable game. Nothing new with the industry here...why are you so surprised? This game has been deeply discounted a few times. The option has been available to those that have had fiscal revelations. Need to get over yourself and either play it or take a walk.

Petebloodyonion2773d ago

You totally nailed it!
Unfortunately it still seem to be a EA's modus operandi by looking at BF1 and Titanfall2
Titanfall2 is missing the attrition mode, the biggest draw of Titanfall, but don't worry we can be sure that the mode will pop in a paid DLC.

As for BF I'M happy to say that I bought the game used at Gamestop at 5$ more compare to PSN. reasons to:
Making sure EA had 0$ from my purchase.

If you add the season pass content alongside the actual base game and you finally get something that's worthy of the Battlefront name.. at like double the cost.

akurtz2773d ago

if DICE were given an extra year of development like most of their games, it eouldve included all this. Rogue One couldve been the start of the season pass

IamTylerDurden12773d ago

But the world is what it is and they had to coincide with The Force Awakens. Every game would benefit from an extra year, but i'm sure ppl can understand the business side of things. It doesn't make it right, but for ppl to dismiss the game as trash is wrong. What was Overwatch's excuse for lack of content? Evolve? Titanfall?

_-EDMIX-_2773d ago

I mean...I agree, but you could say that about any game. At some point they need to release it to actually make money on such a costly development. For what its worth, I think they did a good job on Battlefront.

Gaming4Life19812773d ago

Your absolutely right and thats why I will probably never touch the ps4 version again and just wait for the game and all dlc to be free on EA Access on xbox one to play again.

IamTylerDurden12773d ago

The base game is dirt cheap atm, so if you jump on it now it's actually a worthwhile deal.

Welcome to the world of mp games in 2016. Overwatch, Titanfall, and Evolve are all just as guilty.

_-EDMIX-_2773d ago

Because we didn't have Battlefront the gen prior, TF2, Left For Dead etc? Um....sure Tyler.

They have nothing to feel "guilty" about because it isn't a crime bud. This is a free market. Folks are free to buy, not buy etc. Its up to you. This isn't really that big of a deal.

I spend a large part of my day speaking with families that are in danger of being foreclosed and need to consider a short sale to cut their loses, its not easy watching folks in such situations. When I come home and read gaming news, I'm reading junk from people literally in tears about a damn game....a game they DON'T NEED TO BUY, content...THEY DON'T NEED TO BUY. DICE told you what was going to be in the base game, they told gamers upfront everything they were working on was for the day 1 game.

A beta came out for the game. Exactly what do you want from them? You have a choice SAME as any company, either buy, or don't buy. They don't need to cater to what you are asking as your are not flipping the bill for this title during its development, you don't own the IP, you don't own the publisher etc.

14 million bought the game.....its now the best selling Star Wars title in history. Seriously deal with that many seriously don't care. Gamers voted with their wallets....you lost.

You are basically fighting the majority in a title you don't even need buy. You won't die tomorrow if they release DLC. When you make your game, make your DLC free or don't have any, your choice, but dear god stop trying to make it sound as if its this "good" or "bad" or "guilty" or anything of the sort. THIS ISN'T LIFE OR DEATH....this is merely a video game.

Don't like it, don't buy it. No one is writing paragraphs convincing you to buy it buddy.....

DeeBeers2773d ago (Edited 2773d ago )

im going to pick this one up. Havent gotten the othes but Bespine has been available to me to play for free for the past couple weeks. Some good maps in there.

Chexs19902773d ago (Edited 2773d ago )

Why the hell does it need to be "FREE" with capital letters!? By definition, free means without any expenditure, but if you own the season pass then you basically just pre-ordered it -_-

aconnellan2773d ago

Because everyone knows putting hard work and development time into an already released game shouldn't be rewarded! /s

dmeador2773d ago

When most people consider that released game lacking in content you wont get many sympathisers

Redx1652773d ago

So that means we deserve a lack luster game with hardly any content...

_-EDMIX-_2773d ago

@Red- Did you not know it was releasing with that content? Pretty sure DICE and EA made it pretty damn clear what was going to be in the game.

No on forced you to buy it....

IamTylerDurden12773d ago

The DLC looks awesome, can't lie.

Becuzisaid61d ago

I thought that was kind of obvious they were incorporating mods to piece this game together. Maybe not, but that's made me worried about one thing:

They also planned on adding the modded ending to KOTOR 2 but were legally blocked from doing so, even after they advertised that to help sell preorders for the game on Switch. Could the same happen with this? Any opponents have 3 weeks to bring down the hammer.

Wish these games would just get remakes.
