Rumours are Kojima has decided to use Sucker Punch's Infamous engine.

himdeel2774d ago

Maybe Naghty Dogs engine but Gerillas Games engine would be my best guess.

I don't think Naughty Dog's, they don't have huge, open world games. Uncharted 4 had big, open areas, but it also hid the loading really well. Can't really do that for a true, open world, so Sucker Punch or Guerrilla seem like the more likely candidates.

Hmm..that's good. That engine was fine looking in Infamous SS.

I thought he was going with DICE's Frostbite ??

Eamon2774d ago

Unreal Engine 4? Source 2? Creation Engine? CryEngine V? Frostbite 3? RAGE?

Timesplitter142774d ago (Edited 2774d ago )

His tweets during his tech research trip a few months ago suggest it might be Frostbite. The two visits he spoke the most positively about were DICE and MediaMolecule, but MM's engine strikes me as being a very specialized engine for whatever project MM is making, and not a general-purpose engine for AAA games. Basically, he gave a lot of praise for DICE's tech and MM's organization structure

I think Frostbite 3 would make a lot of sense, because the engine was made from the ground-up to be used for all kinds of different games by EA's many studios. On the other hand, engines for Uncharted, Infamous, GodOfWar, Horizon, etc... are probably made specifically for these games alone because they were never intended to be used by other studios, and it would take a lot of extra work to re-purpose them for other types of games. Maybe. I'm just speculating

But definitely not any of the others listed (he said it's not a comercially-available engine, so no UE4, Cry5 or Source 2). And Creation and RAGE really don't strike me as being a good choice for the types of games Kojima makes

AFAIK, EA/ Dice does not license Frostbite.

Sevir2774d ago (Edited 2774d ago )

It would definitely be an in house Sony engine that has wide usage, and the only one I can think of is GG's as that has been used and across 4 platforms and 6 games....

PS3: KZ2 and KZ3
PS Vita: KZ: Mercenaries,
PS4: KZ: Shadow Fall and Until Dawn, Horizon (now open world capable)
PSVR: Until Dawn:RoB, RIGS.

Considering that GG's engine was used acrossed so many platforms and in different games I have a feeling Kojima is using their engine. Especially now that the framework and functionality supports open world streaming, It's already shown it's merits for HDR, since GG confirmed that their engine used HDR assets as early as KZ3, but only now can they show it because tech is available, I would not be surprised to learn that Kojima settled on GG's incredible engine

@Eamon

"It’s not a commercially available engine, but it belongs to a famous studio."

I don't think any of your suggestions fit the bill.

Pedantic912774d ago (Edited 2774d ago )

Didn't Kojima mention it'll end up on the PC in the future ?

Wouldn't using Sucker Punch's own in-house engine make it a Sony exclusive ? If they were, i very much doubt Sony would let this game end up on the PC.

It's gotta be an engine with support for both the PS4 and PC.

peewee110162774d ago

Never once did he say that. Some Pc Nerd made up a rumor lol

firelogic2774d ago

He's clearly going to use the Fox Engine. It's not commercially available. It's a famous studio. He's familiar with it. It's capable of open-world games.

Abriael2774d ago

and it's owned by konami. Yeah... No.

mkis0072774d ago

That is literally the only engine it was never going to be lol.

Moe-Gunz2774d ago

Rumors so far is saying Sucker Punch or Quantic Dreams' engine. With Sucker Punch being the likely one.
