OnlySP: Delays, exclusives that never come, and marketing issues — Sony has some big issues to work on with their exclusives, and the sooner they fix them, the better. Content wise, most of Sony’s first-party exclusives are stellar experiences. The Last of Us remains as my favorite gaming experience of all time.
Hideo Kojima is widely known as a video games auteur, but what are his best games outside the Metal Gear franchise?
Now that Death Stranding has landed on iOS, here are five other PS4-era blockbusters that we'd love to have to play on our iPhones at any time.
To celebrate the launch of Death Stranding on iPhone 15, Kojima Productions have teamed up with Backbone to launch a special controller.
Just got to chapter 5 and Im loving every second of this game. Phenomenal boss fight at chapter 4, and just great dialogue and story. What a GEM.
So you're just going to focus on Sony and not mention the various times Nintendo and Microsoft also delayed they're first party games?
I prefer to know about a game a long time in advance to being kept in the dark until the last moment.
While I agree that marketing could be better, this could be said across the board for all console manufacturers. The problem is, games are getting more complex to make… and it's not going to get any easier as generations come and go. I think waiting until you know when a game is going to be done, maybe six months out, is probably the best way to go. That way you know you have the best looking footage that you can get people excited about, that footage is in game and not pre-rendered, and that people will have a fairly solid idea of when the game will actually release. Announcing a game two years out does nobody any good. It only serves to give people grounds to scrutinize.... especially if your initial vision can't be achieved.
Most of these companies do not have great marketing departments. They are hardware companies or software companies who hire a person or two to do advertising for their products. People who do not have a background in marketing, who are probably promoted within from tech positions, in order to save money. So you can understand why marketing doesn't always go smooth. Which is generally due to a disconnect between the departments making the game and those in charge of making it look appealing to the public. On top of that, you always have the unforeseen issues that may pop up at any time during development, that can set you back from your original release date.
Regardless, every developers name is on every product they make, so they want to make you the best game they can in the limited amount of time they have to make it. You can blame publishers for issues, because publishers are the ones who push developers to release games on certain days and dates, to meet fiscal earnings calls for investors. Sometimes not giving them enough time to fully exploit the hardware and make the game that they originally set out to. After all, it is a business, and everybody is out to make money. Otherwise nobody gets paid and the company cant survive. A double edge sword that the public rarely sees.
believe it or not Sony has a perfect strategy with its 1st party if you think about it. Its no Secret Sony wants to push VR and I think we'll have VR games sprinkled in a few AAA's like Horizon. If VR is turns out to be a dud then they have their AAA's to fall back on. If VR is a success then they'll have great VR games on top of their AAA 1st party. I think its a brilliant strategy in case VR doesn't work out because the AAA's are coming albeit not coming for sometime but coming nonetheless and that's their back up plan. Unlike MS who rode the wave of their peripheral with no back up AAA exclusives which bit them hard.
EDIT: Maybe I said something wrong? Lets debate instead of highway disagrees I think Sony has an excellent strategy. Let me know your thoughts.
