PS4 Exclusive The Last Guardian Looks Gorgeous in 16 Minutes of Gameplay Footage

The Last Guardian will run on a PS4 near you a little later than what we anticipated, but to make the wait more bearable, Sony Interactive Entertainment granted DualShockers the chance to record sixteen minutes of gameplay.

You need to stop being so salty about that game's reception.

That is just the excuse people are using because it wasn't looking all that tight closer to launch. Armature tried to capture that feeling, it could be argued, but the execution was poor and it has too many technical issues and gameplay design flaws for it to be overlooked as poor cause of "nostalgia".

Fumito is a master (and inventor) of the "design by subtraction" philosophy and the most your can throw at The Last Guardian at the moment is development bugs that were reported months ago at E3. Everyone else seems to think that it captures the glorious Team Ico essence perfectly, with a few people obviously going to be unhappy that this game leans more towards the intimate puzzle/adventure Ico, than the grandiose boss-battle Shadow of the Colossus in direction. There are going to be many who expected Shadow of the Colossus part 2 after 10 years of waiting, but the stunning direction and emotional artistry of The Last Guardian has remained completely in tact despite delays and a complete platform shift, which is remarkable. Trico come across to me as a believable animal and not just a smartly programmed AI, and it's going to be an emotional ride.

I don't watch trailers either, I just come here for the comments to see peoples thoughts and then i buy the game and formulate my own opinion. I think that's why I was able to appreciate games alot more last gen and this gen. Games like The Crew, The Order, Driveclub, The Division, Knack, etc. all got flak, but I loved each and every one of those gaming experiences because I didn't spoil the experiences by watching 80 hours of gameplay vids.

Same here, I really enjoyed the order and knack. Drive club was pretty decent (I'm not a huge racer fan) and I had fun with the division for some time too (I prefer destiny though).

My initial impression was maybe pull the camera back a little and either it was the player or the controls seemed kinda like when your character moves in GTA. You have control but not precise control. Im gonna wait to see more gameplay after release. I wouldnt say anything there sucked though. I never play shadow of c. But this looks to be in the same ball park style wise.

I'm sorry. But you guys didn't understand the vision of the creator, his vision is more about art style and emotional story. The Shadow of Collusus had a clunky control way back then, but it got praise for epic boss battle, great music, great story and great art style. I understand TLG is different scenario than SOC, but it got similar like ICO and SOC like art style and music, but this is about relationships between the boy and Trico.

The game will probably be 7-10 hours.

It's obviously going to be mocked by those who think that more than that should be expected after waiting for so long (stupid, but people have the right to think like that), but if we honestly expected a correlation between completion length and development time, it would be expected to be something around a 20 hour game, which is ridiculous for its nature.

I'm curious.... why would it not justify a purchase at this point though? The gameplay design and visual style has remained in tact, and it looks like the exact same experience that Fumito Ueda was shooting for, but running as originally intended on newer hardware. I think people should just be happy that it's here rather than questioning what game length justifies $60, as that has dead horse has been whipped tremendously.

Well there's so many games releasing, and not everybody can buy every game they want. It's competing against games which appear to have strong multiplayer. Good luck to the guys and girls who made it. I hope people look past graphics. I will hopefully get it at some point.

If you think a 7-10 hour single player game with no mp and no replayability is worth 60 than you have issues. It's that attitude that let's certain devs get away with so much. I'm sure the game will be fun but it looks like a ps2 game and things like the jerky controls and fighting with the camera are relics that should have been left two Gens ago. Most likely will pick up when it's on sale because to me a 60 dollar game has to give me minimum 100 hours of gameplay, whether that be through long single player story,different paths requiring multiple playthroughs or mp.

That is a completely fair assessment and I can completely understand having a budget to juggle with each year. To me, this is a game that comes along once every decade - quite literally. It's a rare beast. By that I mean they don't make these sorts of games anymore, and TLG has managed to sustain hype for so long because people crave another Team Ico game. Only one man dares to maintain the vision to create it, and only one publisher dares to support it to the finish line.

That is lunacy. Apparently, I'm the one with problem, yet according to you, every game is suited to 100 hours of gameplay... Some of the best games of all time are not even 20 hours long. Even if it's a short game, if you like it enough, by default it's replayable. To me, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are some of the best games ever made and both replayable to the nth degree.

It looks like a PS3 game by design, pushed to the very edge of the platform capabilities, just like The Last of Us was (especially with just how complex Trico's AI routines are), and enhanced by PS4 horsepower. You're taking the whole "it reminds me of a PS2 game" reports from people saying positive things about it, and trying to troll on the game by saying it actually looks like a PS2 game.

It's not the controls.

The article informs that he struggled getting used to the controls because this section that he's playing has no kind of tutorial due to it being after the part of the game that introduces those controls.

Hopefully thats the case. The scenes pulling the levers where he ran to the other side of it seemed a bit strange. It made me wonder about the sensitivity and also whether or not there was a delay for stopping etc after you stop touching the controller. Hopefully just the user getting used to the controls.

I feel sorry for anyone who has been waiting for this for 10 years and failed to realise that it was always going to be closer to Ico in nature than Shadow of the Colossus. Anyone expecting SoTC levels of intensity in fighting giant bosses throughout the game deserves to wallow in disappointment, sad to say.

True, I wasn't a fan of Ico either. I played it after SotC, and was somewhat disappointed after hearing all the praise for it. SotC is in my top games of all time book, and yes they are very different

The monster thing has really impressive movement, but the actual gameplay here was very generic. I don't know why they would bother showing THIS part of the game, as I'm sure there are more exciting parts to show. However, the fact that it's been delayed so many times, and the fact that it looks exactly the same as it did in 2009, doesn't scream good things to me.

Fumito Ueda is a one-of-a-kind creator.

Very few (if any) game designers in the past or present are of his calibre. Even though plenty of modern games are inspired by his works, nobody makes original works the same way he does, or evokes the same feelings as does his games. This is his next creation, and yes... it has been about 10 years since his last masterpiece was released.

Ico was amazing.
Shadow of the Colossus was amazing.
This looks just as good.

Trico is incredibly believable and well modeled. He must've been extraordinarily difficult to create. From the ai, to the poly count, to the physics of his feathers and how the world reacts to his size/weight. A lot of blood, tech, and tears went into his creation and the game's, and it shows.

the more i see about this game the more boring i think it is. i usually despise games where you have to save or follow other entities for the sake of solving riddles and finding alternate pathways. this game looks as boring as every other game from this studio before. i am not willing to pay a high price for a game that loses me after 2-3 hours. it's just not for me, i guess. but good for everyone who likes these kind of games. but seriously, good gfx is no indicator that a game will be worth the while.
