Xbox One S controller is another sleek and smart upgrade from Microsoft

The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles did not launch with great controllers. In hindsight, while both devices had their upsides, they feel cheap. Microsoft and Sony have since revised their gamepads, and now the Xbox One is on its third standard design -- and it's the best one yet.

I'm definitely selling my old controller to get this one. It's universal support alone is great value, over 400 PC games support the configuration without drivers, and both XB1 and Scorpio will use this controller as well. I waited a long time to invest on a universal option with the highest amount of support. I have 3 controllers and all of them have different purposes. couldn't be anymore happier with this new controller installment.

Really? My ps4 controller works just fine on all my PC's with just Bluetooth. I think it will mostly depend on Microsoft's Bluetooth implementation, which I do highly doubt will work with the PS4.

If it doesn't and you really wanted it to you can always use a xim4 or other cheaper but less functional alternative.

I use my Xbox one controller on my ps4 and Xbox 360 all the time with the xim4. Its pretty cool especially when you really go deep into its options and see that you can adjust the sticks movement speed based on where the stick is using a ballistic curve. You can also modify the degree of motion relative to position which is actually really handy plus you can have entirely different analog sensitivity in ADS mode so like some games slow down or speed up the analog curve when you aim down sights, with the xim4 you can override that.

It also let's you use mouse and keyboard on any console as well..well any console that let's you plug in a controller via usb

For the customization being offered and still making a good profit, $90 seems about right to me. It's not like they have these on Build-A-Bear scale of manufacturing yet, so it costs much more to make these than a standard controller.

This new controller i feel is prototype for testing the textured grip for its longevity before haptic feedback is embedded into it. May be in time for scorpio or after for sure. This custom controller is not with haptic feedback though.

It doesn't feel cheap in general, just in comparison to the X1 controllers. The PS4 controller is the best controller Sony has ever made. Though it still trails in comparison. to the X1 regular controller and far behind the elite.

Pope I don't know what your talking about. DS4 doesn't feel cheap at all.
The only problem with the DS4 is the rubber coming off ( thank god sony fixed that problem ) with day one controllers. Infact the majority of journalist favor the DS4 over the xboxone controller. As far as the elite controller being better, I would hope so they go for $150. Never tried an elite so I can't say.

My DS4 is not a day one and the top and bottom pieces don't line up, and the rubber is coming off the sticks. Its not even my primary console, I only use it for exclusives. As far as gaming journalists go most will admit they aren't the best gamers. So them saying they prefer either is like a kid who just got his licence saying which car he likes better.

Again the DS4 is the best controller Sony has ever made but its not as good as the X1 controller. The X360 controller is the best controller ever made and the X1 is just an upgrade on that.

I thought the Xbone controller felt cheaper than the DS4. Was very squeaky and loose feeling, with cheap plastic on the bumpers. To be fair it was the controller in a Gamestop. I hate the analog sticks on both controllers though, way too small for my taste.

@Sparta: I have to say man, the DS4 is definitely the best Sony pad design wise, but build quality/materials is very poor. Both my day one pads are out of action. Rubber came completely off the sticks of one and the R2 button popped out of the other after a very gentle fall. Even the whole casings are loose on both. On my 3rd controller for the last couple of months and seems to be much better quality so I'll see how long this one lasts. Ergonomically they're fantastic, but I have PS2 pads stuffed away in the attic that have seen thousands more hours of use and are in much better shape!!

I have two and no problems with them what so ever. DS4 better then xbox1.
Go back and look at the reviews.
If you like xboxone controller just cause you a Microsoft fan and don't like the other console I understand.

You don't know me but I'm very particular about my stuff. You dont have to defend the controller its a little flimsy. Besides the fact the sticks are slippery, the battery life even with the updates PAILS in comparison the the X1, and its not as comfortable in my hands (clearly my opinion). Thats not even to mention how cool rumble triggers are.

I dont like the X1 controller because I've been gaming for 20 years and think its the best controller ever made. Having nothing to do with who made it

You are insane Sparta. The majority of journalists do not prefer the ds4. The stock xbox one controller is the best Stock controller period. The elite is head and shoulders above the competition. Ps controllers are fine but just made for baby hands. I don't even have large hands but it still feels tiny. Sparta, the rubber on the sticks wasn't the only problem with the pads. They're just very badly made with cheap material. Besides the rubber peeling off on one and the r2 button popping out on my other one, both of them are practically falling apart.

I have to disagree with you though Majister. It's definitely the best PS controller design so far. And you must have hands like Shaq if you think they're too small!!

As mentioned in other comments, it's the choice controller for professionals who game on a regular basis for a reason. Preference in your book does equate to facts.

Right?!?!? The DS4 is miles better than anything Sony had before. I never had a issue with the analog stick rubber on my day one or my wife's uncharted edition. However the uncharted edition feels a bit better than my OG controller.

Now the Xbox one controller...I really do prefer the inverted analogs, and I prefer their concave sticks. To me it's just easier to play, especially First person games. I don't have my OG X1 controller but I have the blue Forza edition and it has the rubber grips on inside of the controller that apparently these new controllers are coming with standard. And it is amazing.
Two AA batteries seem to last forever compared to DS4 battery. And in my opinion it's kinda of a tie in build quality. I would give the edge to the X1 but the fact that the X Y B A buttons are rediculously loud while sonys DS can be whisper quiet at times.

Anyway, on topic though when I read the first sentence about ps4 and X1 did not launch with great controllers I knew I wasn't going to give it a click.

Ok how many playstation 4 thumbsticks have already worn out? Ive lost 3 already and replaced them with the Xbone thumbsticks. While the PS4 controller is a better controller than rhe Xbone if not just because the usb charging and touch pad, the Xbone controller is better built and feels like a better product

@Grubbeater the worn thumbstick issue with PS4 controllers is real. I play a fair amount my kids play, my wife plays weve gone through 3. Luckily they arent hard to replace and i replaced one with Xbone thumbsticks because they just feel good. Other than that i love the PS4 CONTROLLER and imo its the best Playstation controller ever! Top 5 favorite controllers along with the Gamecube controller, the 360 controller and the N64 lol. The only issue with replacing the thumbsticks on the PS4 controller is it typically renders the touchpad useless, to which i have to reopen and reconnect the wires

I guess it's because I play on both. Going from the tight ds4 sticks to the loose X1 sticks just feels sloppy to me. Last gem it was the opposite lol, the 360s were tight and PS3 were loose.

I love the ds4 and prefer to it the standard Xbox one controller, though I replaced my (launch day) rubber worn ds4 thumb sticks with some xbox one sticks. Much better. The Xbox sticks have a smaller diameter and grips around the outside, which make for better handling overall. I love my hybrid

All the controllers sucked out the box at launch.

PS4- analog rubber split and sticker peeled off leaving adhesive, 10 hr battery life
X1- completely outdated as a newer model released, and now an even newer model
Wii U- battery life was 3.5-5 hrs until you bought extended battery for 8 hrs playtime

So... I guess I'll need to trade in another X1 controller, maybe both, and pony up for new ones. Especially since it'll work with PC, and it'll work to play GameCube games on Wii U from vWii mode (Wii U Pro Controller and original GameCube controller support is nice but, X1 controller is better)

I believe I read that the new X1 controller will only connect to Windows 10 through Bluetooth, which I hope is not true. I had big plans to be able to connect it to my NVidia shield tv so I can stream my PC and PS4 games to it. I currently just plug in a DS4, but my wife isn't too thrilled with the 20ft USB cable draped across the living room.

May be your hands and fingures are not built for gaming on xbox. Get them checked and probably it would fix that and controller would work fine.

Or do one thing... Send in your hand moulds to microsoft and request for custom controllers. That should do it. Microsoft will not need to spend millions ever to do RnD to get it right.

IMO it is the perfect positioning. For my hands it feels significantly more comfortable than with the DS4. I can't play with two analog sticks so close next to each other.
For my taste Xbox has the best controller. The day one Xbox One controller is awesome and MS improved on its design with every itteration so far.

The controllers of the two are great, no need for an other controller.
Trust me, the controllers of the Xbone and the PS4 are just fine the way they are.
And there is no way i am gonna pay €90 for a controller, no way.
