Tequila Works confirms Rime is still in development with more news 'coming soon'

Spokesperson also hints that game may no longer be a PS4 exclusive.

after Sony abandoned this game and threw the IP to tequila works (something Sony never done before) im REALLY worried about this game

(some says that what we saw was just CGI and the actual game is a big mess)

Details about what Sony did or didn't do are all speculation. However, Tequila Works did reacquire the IP. No other info about the whole deal was given beyond that other than the game was going to continue to be worked on.

Publishing contracts often have acquisition rights up to a point in development....sometimes all the way up until it's released, and occasionally even after release. Price just goes up substantially the longer one waits. Most smaller devs don't do it because the cost isn't practical.

It sounds believable enough. Even if Sony dropped the funding of the game, they'd actually still own the IP rights, as that becomes theirs when the first part of the contract is fulfilled.

That actually is what happened. Sony wouldn't let them buy the IP back if they had something, but they showed nothing for two whole years and Sony dropped them and let them buy the IP publishing rights back for dirt cheap. Tequila got funding from the Spanish government to buy it back.

And, to this day, we still haven't seen anything new out of this game at all... Three whole years since it was revealed. No gameplay, no new trailer, nothing.

rumor is the trailer(s) were all cinematic, and they were unable to recreate them in a game. This is why Sony abandoned the project, since they had no real game to show after all that time.

Soren came out and I should've jumped on it but most vids about it claimed that the game was okay at best.
I hope Rime takes it up a notch and delivers a wonderful experience. I need virtual adventure in my life.

Can't wait for this game. Pity about the lost exclusivity but was to be expected after all what happened meaning Sony giving away the publishing and IP rights. In the end it means more people will be able to play the game which is a great thing for the developer. Let's hope they deliver.

I was really excited for it, but after hearing that all of what was shown was just tech demo type footage & w/ the actual game having a lot of issues (or not even existing according to some rumors) it's kinda dropped off of my radar. I don't think the devs are capable of achieving their initial vision at this point.

I look at it this way, Sony is one of the best creative partners in the industry, and they have a long track record of allowing time & freedom for their partners to create great games...look at TLG, Sony gave Ico nearly 10 years...then Until Dawn, where Sony allowed them to ditch the Move & switch platforms entirely....if Sony couldn't find some middle ground to help these devs achieve their vision & it was enough for them to wash their hands of it entirely, I'm skeptical that any other partner in the entire industry can help them realize that initial vision. I don't have my hopes up anymore personally, I'll be pleasantly surprised if they are able to pull off a miracle though.

I've heard this before. They made posts claiming they were in crunch time nearing release, and the game was just about finished, but lack of news was because Sony had 'something special' planned, etc.

It's all BS. From the sounds of it they barely have a game and poor project management. I don't ever expect to see this released, and if it is, it won't be close to the game we expected.

Going to be a little bit more skeptical about the game/these news. The amount of time they have spent developing this game, and the whole fallout (or separation) with Sony, it kinda sounds that not all is well. I wouldnt even mind if they had reformed and started reworking some parts the game if the original vision was too grand. All I hope is that they are not BSsing people like some rumors said that none of the trailers were proper gameplay.

The last thing we heard about this game was it was boring and that came from Sony who actually gave Tequila Works the IP back. That tells me this game is going to be bad.
