In raw numbers yes but everybody knows consoles punch above their weight due to the closed nature of the hardware. Uncharted 4 runs on a bloody 1.6Ghz APU! :)

@bruce. Yes they do. I'm not saying you cant build a more powerful machine for the same price, i'm saying devs always put more into the console versions to get more out of the hardware. They do this because fixed hardware allows them to and consoles are where the money is. Too many PC gamers seem take console efficiency personally, like console owners shouldn't be allowed to have a game that runs that nice on such low powered hardware.

At the end of 2017, the i7-5820 probably won't even be available anymore. It is already a 2 year old processor, by that time there will be something both faster and cheaper. The best of AMD's FX line is comparable to an i5 at best and we are likely talking about a low tdp laptop processor not something from the desktop line, why would you even need something like a 5820 to top that?

At the end of 2017, the 1080 won't be $700 dollars either. The 1080i and Titan will have launched by then and AMD will have competitive GPUs on the market too, the 1080 won't be the brand new king of the hill that can't be kept in stock anymore, it'll be an upper midrange offering that's been kicking around a good while.

At the end of 2017, a 1TB Samsung SSD won't be $300 either. And who will be buying 1TB SSDs by then? I already own 500GB Kingston PCIe drive that moves data at 1400MB/s today, why would I buy a 1TB drive that only moves data at 500MB/s a year and a half from now? It'll be a budget drive by then. And really, does anybody expect anything more than another 5400rpm laptop drive in the new consoles? The bar is low here.

Don't get me wrong, I give MS credit for delivering a well powered console but don't talk about how much a comparable pc costs until said console can actually be purchased. In the pc world prices only go down as newer, more capable hardware constantly trickles into the market.

i7 would be needed if Scorpio does include Zen. Zen is eight dual thread cores. If Scorpio does include a full Zen chip it wins on CPU against that i7.

@dcbronco Sorry if am mistaking your comment. But are you saying if the Scorpio has a full CPU with 8 cores it will beat a i7 5820K? If so just because it has 8 cores does not mean it will beat a CPU with 4. Just look at the AMD FX line. Even though there good CPU's and good for games.

They get outperformed on most games by intel CPU's. Even some i3 CPU's are better at a decent amount of games than the FX line.

Ocelot that was under the old AMD design. Zen is a new architecture that is far better than previous one. It's expected to be 40% better and on par with Intel chips. So, no. I'm not basing it on core count but on all of the reports so far on the test chips. Some rumors are saying it's even better than the 40% AMD has said. AMD said 2x performance increase on their GPUs with Polaris and that turned out to be 2.8x per watt. If they do better than 40% they could be neck and neck with the coming version of i7 since it's expected to be a less than 10% increase. And Zen is expected to be far cheaper than Intel.

At Random, I don't think it will necessarily be a mobile chip. Zen is supposed to be very power efficient also. I believe we'll start seeing full size CPUs again since the power can still be kept low.

This is ridiculous. Buy a 1070 and save yourself 200 - 300 dollars or a 480 as it is likely to be the card that will be used by Scorpio and save yourself a further 200 dollars. Instead of an X99 processor stick to z170 chipset and it should be fine. This article goes way overboard on attempting to build a scorpio style PC.

My last beef with pc gaming is the cheaters in the pc community. Games like overwatch are running rampant with cheaters . Not saying everyone does it but it is considerably higher in the pc gaming community.

So I guess this is gonna be the usual topic amognst certain PC gamers every 3 or 4 years. How to spend more money to keep your PC over consoles. Some of yall do that but ONLY the hardcore PC fans will do that. Do ppl really, really not understand how impracticable it is to sit up there and update your PC every other year or so? No, i am not competing with consoles. PCs have always been more powerful and come with a higher price tag. I got my 2 980tis about 9 months ago and had a top 1% gaming PC for all of a month. I probably won't upgrade again until the 1180s. I can run most games on ultra 4k, no AA at a steady frame rate. That is good enough for me for now. And yes, some games i still play at 1080p because the HUDs don't scale. Civilization, i am talking to you!

Pc gaming is great. But not everybody loves all that comes with pc gaming, and that's not even factoring in the expense. Some people just want to plunk down on the couch, pick up a controller, and know when they put a game on, it's just going to work and work with minimal effort. Pc gaming requires considerably more effort, especially getting started and making sure whatever level system you build is firing on all cylinders...that process can be a bit daunting if you know next to nothing about computers, and there is considerably more work you have to do instead of just plugging in the power cable and the console spitting out step by step instructions for you...but for that effort you get a much, much better and personalized experience. As someone who enjoys both pc and console, I can say they both have a place and constantly comparing them is a bit ridiculous. It's apples and oranges, but they both still taste good to me.

You can't build a PC more powerful than Scorpio for $650, Your link is GTX 1060 for 1080\60 games or at most 1440\30-60 in some games. not 4K

You need at least GTX 1070 to beat Scorpio and maybe not, because console GPU always have an advantage as they are utilised far more effectively.

cf 470s will get you 10 tflops,so at 700-800 euros easily with everything else.Its a 6 tflop console with a weak cpu.Mid engine for when is released,at best.

@WilliamSheridan Silly someone with 15 years pc expirience,693 steam games and 15 origin,come to these results after testing against my brothers ps4.My old 290,in multiplat games,for example witcher 3,at the exact settings i gan go(i cant go lower than pc low to match console low),provides at the very least over 3 times average framerate.I tested 25 multiplat games(including doom,dragon age inquisition,hitman,dirt rally) and got in all these games as close to the ps4 settings as possible,and every time i got at least 3 times the framerate.most usual,when the ps4 was at 30 fps avg and 18 min at witcher 3 at the ps4 settings,at the same area i got about 95-100 average and 81-82 minimum.My sli 1080s on the other hand,have a min at 4k/ultra of about 75 and avg of 90 fps on witcher 3.One last thing.If i,a phd Software Engineer,who makes 120.000 euro at 23 each year,is silly,then you are a bag of rocks.Have a good day.

This is exactly what I did when I saw how crappy Witcher 3 ran on my PS4. I used a Silverstone FTZ01 ITX case and 970 GTX (now upgraded to 980 GTX) which gave me 1080 60 FPS on very high or ultra in all games. With Steam Big Picture mode it felt entirely like I'm playing on my own custom console. The interface is completely gamepad driven. The cool thing is that at anytime I can switch to back to Windows 10 and I have myself a living room PC.

However this is not an option for many people, building a ITX case like this requires a certain degree of technical ability and experience. Then there's the price, this PC cost me $1175 because I went with all premium hardware.

Yeah me too. I was sick of trying to play games that were running at under 30fps, stuttering everywhere. I ended up selling both consoles & built myself a gaming PC. I like you play on my tv, I use an Xbox elite controller, even the headset works to chat & I feel I'm on my own custom console, but with 60fps & ultra settings being the massive difference.Now the great news that some of my favorite games like Gears & Forza will be coming to PC & I can still play MP with my old Xbox friends, its even better..

Well...so I got curious. Based strictly on their recommendation parts they call out for each section, how much would their recommendation cost if I went with the middle of the road prices off Amazon or cheaper. So according to Techradar and their recommendation if you want to build a PC that is more powerful than the Xbox Scorpio (which mind you we really don't have full specs on yet)... it would set you back approx $1,500 and that is before installing an OS on the system and doesn't include the cost of a keyboard or gamepad. If that is the cost it takes to build something better than the Xbox Scorpio, if it releases anywhere close to $500 at launch it will be a steal of a deal.

I stopped playing pc for a many good reason, I enjoy my console now and don't care for pc what so ever apart from using mine to watch things on. I'll buy a Scorpio when it's out and I'll enjoy it, keep your damn pc's and made up ones as it's my preference that counts for me as it is yours to you.
