I'll be honest, I was a major Digimon guy growing up. I just was really fascinated with everything being digital and all.

The games are all really awesome too! My favorite being Digimon World 3 on the ps one. Now I'm seeing Pokemon games literally imitate everything Digimon was (mega evolution, device for mega evolution, Digimon world 3 battle style, taking on features of the trainer [happens in the next Pokemon movie], Pokemon based on real world things,etc.). It's not bad at all. I just think that people never realized how cool Digimon.

In reality though, I'm a sucker for Pokemon anything. Pokemon Crystal and Sapphire being my all time favorites.

ninsigma2836d ago

Grew up loving them both but if I had to choose, it would be pokemon every day of the week :P
Never really got into any of the digimon games. Digimon world 1 was cool but I didn't play it much as I didn't own it.

As for sapphire, man I can't stand that gen. Some cool pokemon in there but overall it didn't come close to the previous 2 gens and I didn't enjoy the game that much. Crystal though, was magnificent!

SocialShy2836d ago

For me a lot of it depends on which one I'm talking about: games or shows. I've alway enjoyed a Pokemon game while Digimon games tend to be hit or miss. While the show I will always love Digimon because they do different things.

extermin8or2836d ago

Digimon, I mean pokemon is more popular but digimon is objectively better imo. Less childish, better narrative generally speaking, more complex plotlines and the games feel like they have a larger variation to them. As opposed to the pokemon games which by and large are the exact same games with small changes.

SocialShy2836d ago

I love Digimon cyber sleuth, but Digimon games can be so hit or miss. That's if it even comes to America mind you. I will always enjoy Pokemon games no matter. It's always an interesting debate.

Eonjay2834d ago

Same here. Also, I don't think there is much in this world that can stop a Digimon Go game from being released. Bandai has cancelled all other projects until this app is released lol. /jk

donwel2834d ago

Hmm, I was going to say that Digimon always seemed to be the slightly more mature of the two. I mean if you've played Cyber Sleuth, there are some things in that which are most certainly not for children.
In saying that though, I do like both series. They both offer a slightly different take on monster battling than the other.
Not a fan of pokemon go though, just seems like an incredibly shallow experience to me when compared to the actual games.

crazed_shadow272834d ago

I played it Pokemon Go for 2 days, and will never play it again. So shallow.

Majin-vegeta2836d ago

Digimon hands down.I pretty much stopped caring about Pokemon after GSC.Once the designs just started become dumb and dumber.Digimon was geared nore towards the Teens of the 90's.Where you actually saw people and Digimon alike die.

Also Digivolution is way better thsn Poke evolution. http://youtu.be/Xyrzpo-cefA

Another thing that gave Digimon an edge eas the fact that theu were abke to talk.So it felt like you could connecct to them.

And if you still need more proof :p

SocialShy2836d ago

I honestly loved the Digimon shows more so than Pokemon. Even today I think they hold up a lot better. Games are kinda meh. Like Digimon all star rumble was trash. Digimon cyber sleuth was great. It's so hit or miss and that's only counting the games that will come to North America.

crazed_shadow272834d ago

Rumble Arena on Playstation 1 was actually pretty good. Not sure about the All Star game.

2pacalypsenow2836d ago

Digimon had a better Story but Pokemon is bigger

Antifan2836d ago

Digimon had a better anime. Pokémon had better video games. Pokémon TV series felt too immature and a drag for me. Digimon had a serious, grounded tone to it that felt authentic.

crazed_shadow272834d ago

That depends on the Digimon game. I think some digimon games have been better than pokemon games. Digimon World 1, 3 and CyberSleuth are incredible. 2 and 4 were horrible. Not sure about Dawn or Dusk. Digimon Adventure on the PSP actually followed the story of the first season ore longer. I wish I could get my hands on that game.

The thing is the games have always played with different formulas back and forth. Honestly, pokemon has been the same for the past 20 years (including the minimal, and I mean absolutely minimal graphical upgrades). Heck Digimon world 1 from back in 2000 looked better than a pokemon game in the 2016.

Pokemon Doesn't Need to Sue Palworld, It Needs to Get With the Times

The Nerd Stash: "There's been a lot of talk about Pokemon and Palworld recently, but if anything, Pokemon's new competition should be a sign to change."

Fortunately for Nintendo, the legal team is separate from Game Freak’s development team.

NotoriousWhiz83d ago

Unfortunately for us, as their legal team seems to be more competent than Game Freak's development team.

gold_drake84d ago (Edited 84d ago )

they do tho .. IF there is something to sue for. IP infringement is such a delicate thing.

but absolutely agree on the change

GoodGuy0984d ago

That, have longer dev time, and absolutely get rid of Nintendo as the exclusive platform. Imagine a AAA pkmn game on current consoles or next generation.

But money, they'll make billions with little effort.

badz14983d ago

you know that's never gonna happen

FinalFantasyFanatic83d ago

Gamer Freak, Creatures and Nintendo all have a stake in the Pokemon franchise, Nintendo especially will never let them go, I don't know how Creatures or Game Freak feels about it. Plus, the other two don't have a financial incentive to ditch Nintendo, they make mega bucks regardless. Although I think Nintendo should help Game Freak out more since they're clearly struggling, other they'll all just have to accept longer dev times and bigger gaps between games, or maybe just make some cheaper low-tier games in-between.

shinoff218384d ago

Idk yall. I'd take a Pokémon jrpg over a Pokémon with guns, online play etc. Plus wasn't Pokémon mobile pretty fking big like 4 years ago then covid hit.

--Onilink--83d ago (Edited 83d ago )

Even Scarlet/Violet had sold 24million as of early November (and undoubtedly sold even more during the Holidays), its not like they are currently suffering.

Yes, there are plenty of things I would like Gamefreak to do better, and yes I happened to like Palworld, but not because its a Pokemon clone, because its not, but because its a good survival game, something that I have zero interest for the mainline Pokemon games to become.

Most publications keep bringing up these topic ls just for clicks, because clearly the game is your typical survival game (most who do well on PC) with some Pokemon sprinkled in and not a Pokemon competitor, the core gameplay loop is clearly just Ark with dinosaurs swapped for Pokemon like creatures

And again, while I’m enjoying the game itself, I hope it doesnt set a new precedent for what we expect from game devs these days because, based on their other games, this developer really seems to basically just try to go as close as possible to ripping off other games without getting into trouble and then not really following up on those projects as promised (Craftopia players seem particularly angry).

I doubt they ever expected the discourse around this game to reach this level of popularity to push those insane sales numbers, and they actually take the opportunity to increase the quality of their work

FinalFantasyFanatic83d ago (Edited 83d ago )

I'm going to say something somewhat controversial, the last set of Pokemon games weren't that bad, it wasn't a great game, but a good game if we ignore the performance issues (and I personally didn't have many bugs).

They just need more interesting towns and NPCs (give them interesting dialogue, there's literally no reasons to talk to NPCs), interesting areas/locations (like the sunken ship and Bellsprout Tower), and some decent side quest, there isn't really any interesting side quests in those games, and fix the barely there lore for the game (Idk even know what was going on with those 4 "legendary Pokemon"). And maybe add less new Pokemon into the next game so they can transition more of the older Pokemon into 3D.

I think Scarlet/Violet had the potential to go from a good game to a great game if they implemented most of those ideas, but they also needed more development time to optimise the game as well.

Profchaos83d ago

Yeah agree id take a remake of red in the style of the links awakening remake any day of the week

Profchaos83d ago

No they don't I don't want any of the gameplay anywhere near Pokemon the only link between them is the idea of Pokemon except there's guns you enslave humans and Pokemon and there's a survival aspect.

Pokemon is fairly family friendly can't see Nintendo going ok let's give them m16s and slaughter each other
