i disagree ...from worst to best--->
DS2
DS
DS3
Demon Souls
Bloodborne

UltraNova2843d ago

Switch BB with DemonS and we can agree ;-)

PhantomTommy2843d ago

In no way is Dark Souls the second worst game in the series. Plus, it's probably the one that got most of you into these games in the first place. Personally, I much prefer Demon's and Dark Souls over Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3 is enjoyable and Dark Souls 2 is an absolute joke.

JamesBroski2843d ago

Well... you know, I'm not saying it's his opinion, but http://www.troll.me/images/...

Bansai2842d ago

Demon's Souls got me into the series, way before even english version was announced.

starchild2843d ago

My ranking from best to worst would be:

1. Dark Souls 3
2. Dark Souls
3. Demon's Souls
4. Bloodborne
5. Dark Souls 2

Critic4l_Strik32843d ago

Oh wow, I thought DS1 and 2 were better than DS3. I just bought them on the steam sale so will have to go through them to compare

MoveTheGlow2843d ago

Yeah, I think this list is exactly where I'd put it too.

Bloodborne (as it is now, not at launch) is super focused and takes the wild, frightening ideas of Miyazaki to their fullest fruition. Demon's Souls established Miyazaki's talent with establishing atmosphere through both art and sound (and the soundtrack NEVER got better than Demon's Souls). Dark Souls 3 got some of the Demon's Souls magic back with Miyazaki back on board (and a wonderful soundtrack, just not as insane as Demon's), Dark Souls was a great open/connected world with a few major issues (an unfinished run to Lost Izalith, or just Blighttown, for instance) but stunning DLC, and Dark Souls 2 was still just fine, and wonderful at 60fps on the PC, but that flat level design got monotonous and uninteresting.

Davemyrose5922843d ago

That is exactly what I think!!! Tho 1 and 3 are pratically tied and demon and boodborne are the best,ds2 def worst

TWB2842d ago

Close, I would switch Dark Souls with the third game. It has its problems but I was generally less frustrated and enjoyed more of my time in the first game. Its still a close one though.

bowedIndian2660d ago (Edited 2660d ago )

dude, wrongly without've played demons , i believe that DS it's a masterpiece, and DS3 , BD, DS2 are not so well as DS is...only because i did not like that i saw it there , it is my favorite game ^^

Personally I'd put Bloodborne at number one, but that's just me. I hope we see a new Soulsborne game soon!

thegamefox932843d ago (Edited 2843d ago )

I think you mean bloodborne game...Dark souls series has ended
I would love to see a new IP as well, retaining the same difficulty as other from software games.

Lightning Mr Bubbles2843d ago

Demon Souls was the original. Some say Dark Souls 1 put the franchise on the map but I don't know about that. Demon Souls was a PS3 exclusive and it was a surprise hit, I think that's what really started it all. And then they wanted to go multi-platform to reach more gamers and so they changed the name to Dark Souls.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA2843d ago (Edited 2843d ago )

@bubbles.
I agree and i highly doubt xbox would have given demon souls the light of day. Thats why i love playstation even though a jap dev they were more then willing to release the game world wide and not just in japan, it turned out to be a massive hit, loved demon souls when it first hit the shelves!

Kashima2843d ago (Edited 2843d ago )

best to worst: DS > Demon's Souls > Bloodborne > DS3 > DS2.

ravinash2843d ago (Edited 2843d ago )

Nothing feels the same as my first play through of demon souls.
I heard about the game but knew so little about it that I was almost fearful before the game started.
And I loved it all the way through... even when I was tearing my hair out.

Malphite2843d ago

I haven't played Demon's Souls but for me Dark Souls and Bloodborne are masterpieces. DS3 and DS2 don't quite reach that god-tier status in my opinion but they are still great games.

salazarnaruto522843d ago

Mine would be from worst to best:
Dark Souls 2
Dark Souls
Dark Souls 3
Bloodborne
Demons Souls

uth112843d ago

I'm playing DS3 now, It's good, but after playing BB, it feels like it's lacking something.. I'd still rank Bloodborne higher.

UltraNova2843d ago

That is exaclty why I held of BB until after I finished DS3.

Look I have sunk 150 to 250 hrs in each Souls game. Demons was the exception with somewhere closer to 500 hrs so trust me when i tell we shouldnt compare BB with the Souls games, at least not 1:1.

Fromsoft made sure these games are different enough. Souls games are all about stepping back, observe the enemy's moveset and behavior then decide how to attack him, all while having to deal with a much much much deeper leveling, items, weapons, magic system. While BB is all about mastering one or two weapons and adopting the shoot first ask questions later mentality (except for bosses).

Hell, equipment load alone is enough to differentiate DS and BB.

I'm near the end of BB as we speak and I stil cant pick a fav.

That said if i were to pick just one it would be Demons Souls hands down...it was the first and quite possibly the most well done and memorable.

I will never forget the first couple hrs in Demons.

Sony if theres one game you need to remaster its Demons Souls, wake up!!

The best PS5 exclusives 2024

With so many PS5 exclusives to choose from, it can be a little overwhelming to pick which one to play. PlayStation is killing it with the exclusives this year. Exclusive wise, what has xbox released this year?

VersusDMC3d ago

They won't complain about Microsoft not releasing games here but put all their effort into saying that only first party counts. Games like Rebirth and Grandblue Relink don't count. Games published by Sony like Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin don't count because Sony don't own the studios.

It's some narrative building so for when Hellblade 2 come out they can say, seemingly without shame, that Microsoft is actually releasing first party games this year. And claim victory.🙃

Chevalier3d ago

Weird 1st party games didn't matter when Xbox had so little, but, now they're important again? Guess Ark 3, Stalker 2 don't count any more?

KyRo3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

ARK 3 doesn't exist and it's just a timed exclusive. It's also a game that a majority of the ARK player base doesn't want as it's a massive deviation from what people like about the original game

Abnor_Mal3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Honestly to me it doesn’t matter what they say, they are just finally getting a chance to say all the things PS fan(boy)s were saying to them for the past few years. Let them get that, they deserve a “win” for a change.

The new narrative is that suddenly first party games matter again when awhile ago they didn’t, but that was because they were struggling with the same three games with the occasional fourth or fifth. That games should be everywhere on all platforms since that’s whats happening to theirs. The consoles don’t matter just the ability to play anywhere. Whatever Xbox is doing Sony will soon follow.

They’re not moving the goalpost anymore, but rather just moving the whole damn stadium.

jwillj2k43d ago

Only a incel would care about who published what and who owns who.

If it’s not on the other consoles it’s an exclusive.

Killing what? Where are the 1st party games??
Stellar Blade and FF7 is what I’m seeing this year.. so shallow!!!!

andy853d ago

Doesn't really matter as long as they're great games. Baffles me why people put an emphasis on 1st party. They're still games you can't play anywhere else this year

Cacabunga3d ago

Andy

PS brand is my favorite because of their stellar first party software.. currently I see absolutely nothing to go crazy for..

CS73d ago

Nonsense.

PS1 and PS2 was built on great third party exclusives like FF, MGS, GTA & Tekken.

RonnySins3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Killing it my a$$! The 1st party is still MIA and no... Remakes and remasters don't count.

andy853d ago

I mean they literally do count. Imagine saying FF7 Rebirth doesn't count 😂

Tody_ZA3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

@Andy85 Don't forget the remakes for Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, two of the best PlayStation games around!

And beyond PlayStation, what about Resident Evil 2 and 4? RonnySins wins the award for dumbest opinion!

raWfodog3d ago

Of course I love the games I’ve played from PS but I don’t believe we need to limit it to ‘exclusive’ to acknowledge that Xbox will be releasing some good games this year also. In that same vein, I believe that Xbox diehards shouldn’t limit their acknowledgment of good PS games to 1st party. There are plenty of good games to go around for everybody.

Tacoboto3d ago

This is a Playstation article about Playstation games and your comment is about Xbox. Can't you just celebrate what PS has without dragging this into console war BS?

ChasterMies3d ago

I don’t think Microsoft is releasing games exclusively on Xbox anymore. They have some timed exclusives that release on Xbox first.

Returnal, Astro Bot, and Ratchet made having it since day one worth it.

GT7 free updates and Spiderman 2 and others at 60fps have made this last year more than okay.

But yeah, it’s been dry lately. BG3 and third party have made great filler, but we ready for that SOCOM or Killzone announcement and some more 1st party goodness. Crossing fingers for Ghost of Tsushima 2 announcement this summer.

Didn’t know Helldivers was exclusive! Wtf is going on at Xbox that they can’t get these games, series s strikes again.

SonyStyled3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Sony owns the Helldivers IP. The first was a PS3/Vita/PC game. It was never an Xbox game that they could ‘get’ a decade ago. I’m not sure what the upset is with Xbox here

CS73d ago

Lol, how do you ignore Rebirth one of the best games ever made?

anast3d ago

Looks like they are on par with the previous gens. Solid games all around. Interestingly enough, we can't say they released a bad game yet this gen. Unlike the Quiet Man dustup.

I actually do not mind if Marathon releases on multiple platforms . I just wish that Marathon has a dedicated single player campaign.

DaniMacYo3d ago

Helldivers 2 is exactly what gaming needed. I’m loving it.

The 7 Best Souls-Like Games - Mastering the Challenge

The Souls-like genre remains popular, along with FromSoftware's classics there are many contenders. But which are the best Souls-like games?

toxic-inferno16d ago

Hmm... In my opinion, the 7 best are the 6 made by FromSoftware (DeS, DS1, DS2, DS3, BB and ER), then Lies of P. But each to their own.

kevco3316d ago

Still DS1? You don't feel it's been surpassed yet?

Demon's Souls has the remake of course, but DS1 has surely been outdated?

Smellsforfree16d ago

I think that the DS1 remake is better looking than DS2. The interior lighting matched with the low resolution textures in DS2 is very garish, IMO.

Besides graphics, what do you mean by DS1 being "outdated"? I'm someone who played through Elden Ring and just recently played through the DS series, and as far as gameplay went, there were all very similar.

Cacabunga16d ago

I haven’t played many but Bloodborne and NIOH1 are on top of my list.. had a blast with these 2

toxic-inferno16d ago

For world design and interconnectedness (that's a word, right?) DS1 is yet to be beaten.

9 Years Later, Does Bloodborne Deserve All The Praise It Gets?

Saad from eXputer: "Almost a decade later, it's time to take the nostalgia goggles off and accept that Bloodborne has long been surpassed by its successors."

jznrpg18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

Yes, yes it does. It’s still a great game. Elden Ring isn’t better just different and a bit easier . I like that you have to be aggressive but smart in Bloodborne

thorstein18d ago

I literally replayed it recently and it's better than I remember. I think it's like going back to a beloved book and noticing things I hadn't before.

raWfodog18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

Yo! I was getting ready to reply with the exact same four words you started with lol. Yes, I think Bloodborne has withstood the test of time and remains a great game. That’s why all the fans are hoping for a sequel someday. Hoping that we can catch that magic again with a new storyline.

Leeroyw18d ago

Yes. Just replayed it a few days ago. My first Platinum. And yes. I rage quitted so many times and called it BS too when I started. It's tight. The combat is amazing and the lore is rich.

GamingSinceForever17d ago

Elden Ring was easier? I don’t know about that at all. I remember leveling up in Bloodborne and breezing through it. In Elden Ring no matter how powerful I got I was still catching a beat down from every boss.

thorstein17d ago

That's due to scaling enemies. I remember not doing Haligtree untill near the end and having enemies withstand almost a full blast from Azur's Glintstone Staff Comet Azure. My level was quite high.

Melee characters are not fun in that game, especially for the Elden Beast.

MeteorPanda18d ago

Considering l did a run 2 months ago? Yes.
