Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the only newly announced titles that is exclusive to Microsoft consoles Halo Wars 2 & Forza Horizon? Everything else was announced last year

Actually both had great exclusives the only difference is Microsoft has games with real release dates on games Xbox owners will be playing all within a year's time and surprisingly tons of exclusives. On top of that the announcement of powerful consoles.

I think Microsoft like last year will reserve announcements for new IPs at Gamescom.

Not to be contrary, but how can you say gamers are ignoring it when the bulk of the top articles on N4G, and numerous comments are about Scorpio and what it will bring.

It would seem to me that everyone is well aware of what MS delivered at their conference.

I don't think their game's showing was as good as Sony's personally, because a lot of their 1st party was already known, and most of their more interesting titles were shown last year, but they did have a good conference, and the biggest takeaway from it all was hardware releasing 18 months from now.

Hardware is cool and all, but it's not games. Even PSVR isn't getting as much notice as Scorpio, and the Sony games talk is mostly contained to smaller articles or click bait titled articles....so it would seem to me, that many gamers are ignoring that Sony had a great conference in order to console war up the whole Neo/Scorpio thing, because the whole console war is pretty much dead in the water otherwise.

I think Microsoft had a good show, but not necessarily Xbox. I actually have less reason to buy an Xbox now than ever before with play anywhere being pushed so heavily. All of the exclusives that interest me will be Windows 10 compatible.

For no Logical reason do I see them saying Xbox had the best showing. Nor would they want to. It's considered a laughing stock console to those who don't own it and you're looked down upon if you do own one... Games wise, I liked most if what they showed. I really want to play Sea of Thieves. They did have a good lineup. Looking forward to the fall and what 2017 brings to the table.

Most of those games arent coming out within a year. Where as the xb1 games announced are mainly coming out in under 6 months.

What you fail to realize is that Sony has more games releasing in the next 9 months than MS does. They just didn't show them all again for the umteenth time like MS. You guys praise MS for showing you more of what you already knew about?

Sony could have shown you dreams again, no man's sky again, gt sport again, gravity rush 2 again, persona 5 again, ff12 remake, nier automata, mlb the show, king of fighters, hell they already showed the last guardian and horizon zero dawn again.

All those games are releasing within the next 9 months, 6 within the next 6 months and only one is an indie title. Which is more than what MS has lined up.

We don't need to see those games again, Sony let us see the future while MS peddled you guys the same crap from last year and you praise them for it. The only new games were a yearly release game whose announcement are as about as unexpected as Call of Duty and a year timed exclusive. If you guys take off the blinders you'll see it was actually maddd boring but that minecraft demo was hype huh.....no.

Also what do you mean psvr didn't take off? We've spent an entire year talking about the damn thing, I barely see anyone talking about vive or occulus for that matter. Also occulus isn't coming to the one unless you like theater mode, only Scorpio owners can use full on vr unlike original ps4 owners who can enjoy psvr right out the box.

Sony announced death stranding, days gone, God of War, detroit become human and spiderman man. With other games not even at the confrence like Ni No Kuni 2, star ocean 5, ff7 remake, dragon Quest 11 and more all lined up for the future.

I love how announcing mad games isn't good enough for you guys, you clowns need to come up with reasons to not be impressed and move goal posts like "sooner release dates" and "6 teraflops".

Sony showed lots of games I'm not going to see for a long time, that will trickle release. Standard Sony tactic. Just take a look at this year, only major game releasing is a game promised almost a decade ago, and is finally releasing called Last Guardian. Next up, Horizon in 2017.

Keep listing it, but some of those games, are gonna be on PS5!

As for everything else... well, "megaton" is a bit subjective. The only game otherwise listed in your comment that's anywhere near interesting is RE7, and several of the journalists who actually played the game say it's a "nauseating mess", to quote one.

Sony's conference was mediocre, whereas MS confirming Scorpio and its capabilities was huge. Sorry, but as a PS4 owner, even I can admit that.

By the way all games mentioned had positive reviews with regards to Xbox One exclusives and Indies coming out of E3. That's how you do an E3.

Again both had fantastic shows overall so as a gamer of both I will be looking forward to playing all games that interest me.

Almost every conversation I see about the Xbox brand is about the scorpio, which isn't coming out for at least 18 months. Looks like people are more focused on what's releasing further down the line than in the next few months.

We'll see in the next few months if MS really did make a difference with what they announced or if Sony had the best showing. based on what Xbox fans are saying, the Xbox brand should be selling like freaking hotcakes in the next few weeks. we'll see which side the majority will take.

I will buy a Scorpio if it is allowed to be used as a next gen console - if it is just going to make current games look better and have a better frame rate then what's the real point in moving from an Xbox one?

I think the games on the Xbox one are pretty dammed good as it is so a whole new 500 bucks or whatever it comes out at for 4k that I don't have, VR that I don't have and probably will not shell out for the head set for etc. seems like a waste and I have literally always purchased at least 2 of each generation Xbox's.

I have been with the system since early Xbox live beta testing days and I preview / beta test a lot of Microsoft products so Microsoft is most definitely my console of choice but I'm having a hard time seeing the benefit this time around.

Maybe time and more details will tell and sway me, which I'm sure it will because I wont be able to see them sitting on the shelf all shiny and stuff and not want to tuck one under my arm :) but right now I am just not seeing it.

Where are you getting that Horizon won't be popular? The PS community is raving about the game and everybody is pumped for its release.

M$ took everybody by surprise with Scorpio, I'll give them that. ReCore, is something new for the platform and kudos to M$ for stepping beyond the shooter genre. But everything else was pretty meh. And as someone who has played RTS games for 2/3 of my life, Halo Wars 2 is mediocre. It has potential if they have expansions but that is unlikely as it is a console first game.

Did you miss the Vita and PSTV launches? I absolutely think Sony is capable of launching PSVR which they have said from the beginning was a separate platform and not be fully compatible with PS4. Neo is also all about Uhd blu-ray format , the format was recently released to the public last march .Why would Sony wait just because Scorpio was announced ? Believe it or not Sony is invested in uhd blu-ray , and with xbox s also having uhd blu-ray they will launch Neo asap.
Uhd blu-ray will be a system seller above and beyond any cpu/gpu boost for gamers . And Death, you don't need to worry so much about psvr since it ain't gonna work on your xbone .

They're not stupid enough to showcase the Neo at an event in which their competitors unveiled a more powerful mid-cycle upgrade. Sony didn't announce the Neo for 3 reasons. They didn't need to in order to knock the ball out of the park. Almost every site has stated Sony handily won E3. Second, they are far smarter than you not to cannibalize PS4 sales between now and the mere 30 days before launch when they do announce it. Neo is just another SKU for Sony like the PS3 slim rather than a last ditch Hail Mary effort like Scorpio. Sony didn't need to turn to the PC in order to save sales. And finally, pulling the announcement was simply a case where Microsoft has been baited by Sony into a game they can't win. Power doesn't win console wars. It never has. But go ahead and focus on everything but games and keep bringing Halo, Gears, and Forza.

And crippled? So you believe that not only Sony are lying but also the 230 plus developers behind working on titles for PSVR as well. If PSVR is the huge success you believe it will be and software releases to justify a purchase, couldn't I simply buy one for my PS4 instead of a box of tissues? You say Neo wasn't made to increase PSVR performance, I believe the devs that claim PS4 isn't powerful enough to run PSVR properly. I also believe launching a stronger PS4 (Neo) at the same time as PSVR is difficult from both a manufacturing and marketing perspective. There has to be a reason for doing this other than it's a "mid gen" upgrade, but faster and more powerful which is something that has never been done.

Anyway you slice it, 5 minutes at E3 would have cleared this up.

Yes. E3 is "game centric"....not sure what E3 you've been watching for the past couple decades, but games are always the focal point of any E3....could you be mistaking E3 for CES? What do you think happens in the many years between console releases? Do they just shut it down entirely? Could've sworn I saw them keeping the lights on to show off a game or two...

As far as the hardware, we will hear more about the Neo soon enough, and when we do, we will see an actual release date, hear a firm price, see the box itself, and most importantly, we will actually see games running on the hardware. You know, the entire reason we buy new consoles? It's hilarious that Sony gets criticized for showing full meaty chunks of gameplay for new announcements w/o a release date, but MS just says "6 tflops" & that is enough to be considered a " reveal"...here we have a vocal group of MS fans criticizing Sony for showing off their wares early, & now they are being called out for not showing their wares early enough solely because MS jumped the gun in a huge way w/ a knee jerk announcement?

MS' Scorpio announcement was the CG trailer of games console announcement...tells us nothing & will not necessarily look the way we picture it in our minds when it finally drops.

Nearly all the games Microsoft showed off at this years E3 with release dates, were originally announced last year WITHOUT release dates. So while Sony announced NEW games this E3 without release dates, Microsoft opted to slap release dates on games they have already shown and call it a show. Naturally there are those with no hindsight, like yourself, that can't comprehend that.

To be fair, I do commend Microsoft on announcing the Scorpio early. It does seem like it may eat into the sales of the current Xbox One by announcing it so early, it also seems like they announced it since they didn't have anything else new to announce (without the hardware announcements this E3 would have been like deja-vu); but giving information to gamers sooner can only benefit them in decision making.

In no way do I think Microsoft had the best E3. It wasn't even close in my opinion. My reasons? Other than the hardware announcements, it just seemed like their conference had a lot of filler because they didn't have enough meaty new announcements.
- most games were already shown. Other than Forza I can't think of an exclusive that wasn't already announced.
- Minecraft segment didn't need to be shown at E3, and was too long at that. It just seemed like a weak announcement to be taking up E3 time.
- controller customization announcement, although cool, could have been announced at anytime. Why make it an E3 announcement.
- The updates to XBL seemed like the type of info that could have been conveyed in a blog post. Again, why an E3 segment for it?

God of War has a provisional 2017 as it's date..... Kojima's game we won't see anytime soon. Horizon is March next year after its delay, last guardian is October, all the ps vr stuff is October. Days gone is also 2017- probably summer 2017. Around a year from now. Gt5 appeared in the montages trailers. Spiderman will probably release to ride the hype train with next year's movie. There were other games I can't think of the majority of stuff is aimed at releasing within next 18 months, isn't the same stuff as last year either. SoT, Scalebound, Halo Wars, Crackdown.....all games w/ nebulous 2017 dates or firm dates that could easily slip, all games that have been announced for a very long time...it'll be 3 years by the time Crackdown launches if it makes a summer launch, and even that is doubtful. That one has Scorpio launch title written all over it.

God of War is not in early development, Ascension in early 2013 was the last game that team shipped, and they have been working on this new game ever since. Cory Balrog specifically said the game was coming "soon" in 2017, if they follow the trends for every single other GoW game, it will launch around May-June.

Beyond all of this, why would we rather see multiple repeat showings of things we've already seen over brand new games? I'd personally rather see future greatness than present mediocrity & déjà vu inspiring conferences. Doubly so considering Sony has just as many games launching for the Ps4 this holiday as the XBO has

except the new GOW, and kojima's games were *just* announced at E3... the thing that seems to be lost on those who keep bringing this up is that all (if not most) of MS's games had been shown/presented up to 3 years ago! they've annualized forza (i can bet you money right now that at E3 2017 they'll show forza MS 7, and forza horizon 4 in 2018), and halo wars 2 is a remaster, so there's no real surprise that they're releasing those games this year.

If Sony didn't have hardware releasing in the fall I would agree. The thing is Sony is releasing new hardware this fall and they decided not to talk about the benefits of it or how much better it works with PSVR. If PSVR doesn't work as well with PS4, gamers that pre-ordered with the assumption that PSVR was designed for their console have a right to know so they can make an informed decision. Microsoft not only announced the S, they also told gamers a new Scorpio is coming next year. This makes it so people that prefer to wait for the more powerful Scorpio won't be wasting money upgrading to an S this year. Not a great move for sales, but a damn good move for gamers.

PS4 Neo is a mid gen upgrade. It is going to be 3 years the end of this year which is about half of the gen. Get it?.

Ok. PS4 Neo is a different mid gen upgrade though because it also includes specs upgrade which is also for gaming.

Note. Mid gen upgrades are normally slim models or better media player, faster disc speed, bigger HD that will cost the same as the stock console. Hey sounds like the X1S right?. Well thats because the X1s is MS mid gen upgrade and not Scorpio.

The games are going to release that is 50 games for launch window. The Playstation 4 Neo is mainly for Hometheatre building up more subscribers of Playstation VUE, because the Neo is mainly for 4K screens video playing & content update for 4K. Andrew House went over its reason.

I think both had a great showing. I've owned each console last generation, and I'll do it again when neo and scorpio come out. Microsoft made it pretty clear what the xbox play anywhere is, even had a trailer showcasing it. Said that no one is being left out, explained what scorpio is about and what to expect. But a lot of fanboys are spinning it negatively for a variety of reasons. Do they really think that EVERYONE has a ps4 and pc? Granted, I could understand why someone who already owned a pc, wouldn't need the xbox. But for me, it's my system of choice. It's the system most of my friends play on. And It's got the best controller in my opinion (elite). But I also will always own the latest Sony console. Their exclusives are hard to miss. I don't know, I'm a gamer. Microsoft themselves have come out with statistics that support this though. They claim that out of all gamers in the US 79% of them own both a pc and a console. This is also a big part of why they have decided to unify their ecosystem with Windows.

Microsoft knows that play anywhere wont increase console sales. They have even been very upfront about it. They are trying to refocus their business into selling software through their storefront and from that standpoint moving to PC makes a lot of sense. They are in a way giving up on the console market and moving their business model closer to that of Steam.

What does not make any sense is the ammount of people denying that this is what is happening. Scorpio wont be a failure in any sense in Microsoft's eyes, but neither do I believe that they think it will do anything against Sony, saleswise, as this whole shift is a clear way to move the focus away from the 1 on 1 war they have now been having with Sony. I have strong doubts on whether or not this will be a successful strategy and not just yet another attempt from microsoft to establish an unfair monopoly. However only time will tell. But to somehow propose that Play anywhere and Scorpio is the death of Sony seems to be taking a big step in the oposite direction. Which is why I think there is so many crazy discussions all over.

I'm a huge Xbox fan but this article is ridiculous. Sony had one of the best E3 conferences I have seen in years. Just games, no talking, no interviews, just game after game after game. Many were actually surprises. Which is a big deal considering almost all of E3 was leaked beforehand this year.

It is not a question of ignoring it but rather tthat most gamers preferred what Sony had to offer. A console after the initial reveal is all about the games and the Xbox always concentrates on the just three franchises - Gears of War, Halo and Forza. Yes, Microsoft does have other games like Recore, Sea of Thieves and Scalebound but many of us just prefer what Sony is offering and revealing hardware that is still 18 months away is not going to get anyone but the Xbox fanboys excited. As an owner of every major console sans the Dreamcast, I think I am finally done with Microsoft. The XB1 has had Nothing on it that makes me glad that I bought it. The exclusives were ok but very forgettable, multiplats better on my ps4, and on top of those two problems, its just basically an inferior piece of hardware and the UI is atrocious. (I do love the controller though) So after RRODing 2 360s and having the bone be the POS it is, I think Ive finally learned my lesson. Ill just trade in my Bone and Ps4 for a Neo and MAYBE PSVR if it turns out to be all its cracked up to be.

As for the conference...the S seems nice as I do have a nice 4k tv, but the Neo should take care of my 4k media needs just as well plus the great multiplats and Sony exclusives. As for the Scorpio, ill bet my left and right nutts that it won't come close to 4k 60fps for anything on high settings and cost less than $600.

It's a JRPG that's very similar to Persona. I've never played a Persona game but I've watched enough gameplay of it to know I'd like it. It also has similar elements to Shin Megami Tensei with some Fire Emblem characters thrown in. Paper Mario Color Splash is basically your typical Paper Mario game which I like. I've only played the first Paper Mario game way back on the N64 but I want to play all of them eventually. Pretty much everything they showed on the 3ds I want except for Pokemon. I have nothing against Pokemon, I just never got into it. I don't have a 3ds but I really want to play the remake of Dragon Quest 7 as well as pretty much all the rpgs that are on the system. Overall I want to play about 80% of the games Nintendo showed at e3.

Do they mean last year's conference was better, back when Sony blew people's minds with the reveals of Shenmue 3, FF7 remake, The Last Guardian and Horizon Zero Dawn? Back when there were tons upon tons of reaction videos and people saying "every dream has come true?"

Or do they mean before that, back when Sony dropped the bomb about supporting used games and not forcing online connectivity to stop your console from turning into a brick, and crowds were cheering like maniacs, and Xbox lost a HUGE amount of support?

You can debate the recent E3 all you want but to insinuate they've been ignored "again" is just mind-boggling.

Microsoft had a great conference, but this was a year that Sony just blew them away. If not for Scorpio which was their big announcement, it would have just been a good, safe conference. Coming away from E3, the big talk isn't the games that are coming this year, the talk is all about Scorpio. I was slightly disappointed we didn't see a new IP announced. All 3 of the new game announcements (FH3, State of Decay 2 and Dead Rising 4) were sequels. Of the other exclusives they showed off, only ReCore, Sea of Thieves and Scalebound are new IP's.

Sony's conference was just game after game after game, there was very little talking throughout and no down moments (looking at the Minecraft showcase). They announced 8 new games coming. Of those 8, 7 are exclusive to PS4 or PSVR and only 1 was multiplatform (Resident Evil 7). Of those 8, 4 are new IP's. Of all the games Sony showed off (previously announced titles included), 7 of them are new IP's.

To me this is indicative of who Sony and Microsoft are. Microsoft has huge franchises that sell (Halo, Gears, Forza, Fable, etc), however they struggle when it comes to new IP's. Sony excels at creating new and popular IP's. So while Microsoft had a strong showing, seeing so much of what we've seen before (sequels and previously announced titles), it didn't feel as fresh. Sony's conference on the other hand, because it had a lot of new announcements and they showed off new IP's, the content just felt really fresh. Add in the perfect pacing and you have one of the best conferences we've ever seen. Also don't even get me started on that orchestra, that was just freaking awesome.

I'm not trying to downplay Microsoft's conference, it was great but Sony was just better. Simple.

It doesn't fit their narrative to say that MS had the best (or sometimes even a "good") conference. It's flanboy politics. According to the playbook, you must constantly downplay everything good the other side is doing (until your side does it, then call it innovative) while getting "excited" about what your side is doing (...about which if the other side did, you'd ridicule them). This year MS did very well. They announced great games and showed great gameplay demos....nearly every game they showed is coming out in the next 6 months...some a little longer...nearly every game had a release date...they showed gameplay for almost all of them...and they announced two hardware updates people have wanted...and even a few system updates and dedicated server expansions that people wanted. Pretty much EVERYTHING that MS talked about was something that someone even remotely a fan of MS/Xbox would be happy/excited about. That doesn't mean Sony did poorly at all, they did announce some new games that look good, but all in all, they did things that people usually rip MS about. MOST of what they showed will not be out for quite some time, almost nothing had a release date, they spent almost half of their 1 hr show talking about VR (most games which weren't even exclusive in the slightest, as apposed to MS spending about 15 mintues of their hour and a half show talking about TWO new consoles). Almost nothing they showed had a gameplay demo, or if it did it was clearly a vertical slice (in other words a very very scripted demo with little to no actual gameplay intended just to give an idea what the game will be like). The also spent 10-15 minutes just showing that Kojima is here, and he's making a PS game...then showed a video that they admitted isn't even part of the game at all...with no idea what it's going to be about.

So while I think both sides did very well, I'm just pointing out that if each side had switched places...people would STILL say that Sony had a better show...because that is what they decided before the show. Really the only difference this E3 is that MS focused on things with in the next 6 months with a few teasers within the next 12 or so...while Sony did the same thing they did last year and the year before...and focused on things YEARS away. Like where is FF7, Deep Down, Shenmue...TLG FINALLY got a release date...but no gameplay demo. If you changed company names, people saying that Sony won would be ripping MS to shreds right now.

Thing is pistols it's very easy to focus on exclusives coming out within the next 6 months of a summer conference when you release pretty much all the big exclusives titles form September to December.

Last big X1 game was what QB back in April and the next is what Re-Core & FH3 in September, followed by Gears in October and DR4 in December (I think anyway)

PS4 had SF5 & MLB the show before QB landed, Ratchet & Clank the same month closely followed by UC4, Star Ocean, No Mans Sky before the next X1 games land in Sept, Last Guardian, GT Sport before the end of the year.

Just because games releasing between now and 6 months away weren't shown doesn't mean they aren't releasing.

I would prob say X1 had the edge in exclusives beginning of the gen, think PS4 def has the edge now.

Microsoft have had the best show 4 years running. Heavy game focused, and this year was all games coming this year or early next year. Also, hardware we're getting and love the design lab for controllers. Sony showed games to get people hyped, but I doubt many noticed that a lot of what they showed was "in development" and in some cases are years and years away from release.
Interesting note that Sony only released 8% of what they showed at E3 2015 to this point, and it's likely to be lower than that with this years offerings. (Which is the worst among all the companies).

I think both conferences were great with the edge going to Sony for showing new ip's and I know some are far off and I hate to see games further than a year out honestly. But that is how you excite most younger gamers and that is why Sony does it, kinda of a smart tactic on their part. So while I do appreciate the showing of new ip'showed no one can deny that most are far off from releasing or getting delayed. Top picks from sony's show was horizon, God of war, and days gone for me.

As far as ms conference I liked the games that were shown but where is the release dates for games that they have been showing for 2 e3's now. They said crackdown 3 would launch this year yet the game was Mia. Cuphead still doesn't have a release date, if ms would have confirmed more release dates I think people would've loved their show more. I mean sea of thieves, recore, gears, halo wars, and crackdown were slated for this year and out of that list only 2 made it. I mean even a gameplay trailer for crackdown 3 wouldve been great and a release window for sea of theives. Luckily it is a ton of games coming this fall so it's not all bad. The 2 new systems being revealed was good from Ms though. Forza horizon 3 looks really good and I was shocked of how good that game looked, I knew it was coming but coming off fh2(which was great) I really could not see how they could make the next one tremendously better. They clearly did though. Also dead Rising 4 looks great too.

So all in all I think Sony did better with new ip'showed but ms did better with things coming sooner than later. Great e3 for me glad I own all systems.

Huh, most have agreed Microsoft had an awful conference and that Sony demolished. What new games did Microsoft announce to convince anyone otherwise? No VR. No big surprise announcement Just Scorpio in coming in 18 months which we all knew was coming going in. And with all exclusives being Win10 now, it's decreasing the need for Xbox at all anyway. Showing Recore again and a Forza offshoot? Halo Wars 2 (lol). Not to mention some titles XB1 announced at prior E3s have been cancelled since.

I'm happy that microsoft will continue on with new hardware and I want them to be aggressive in their efforts to "win back" the millions of gamers who abandoned them when the XBOX ONE was unveiled to be forcing players to pay more for weaker hardware bundled with Kinect and unacceptable restrictions. However, I will never buy a microsoft console regardless of how powerful the specs are. I was perfectly happy with my PS2 and GameCube when the original XBOX was offering a more powerful console, and I'm sticking with Sony and Nintendo as they offer me all I want and need as a gamer even as the Wii U is universally referred to as a failure and the PS4 is being replaced by the NEO . Microsoft only serves the purpose of offering competition in the console market by appealing to the broader "dude/bro" demographic that will never be able to appreciate more creative and genuinely fun gaming experiences like only Sony and Nintendo can offer. GAMEPLAY, GAMEPLAY, and more GAMEPLAY is what I looked for this E3. Substance. We can get a good read and most of the information we need from it - as long as it is an accurate representation: graphics, play styles, character types, battle systems, world/level design, etc.

For me, MS had filler. Same with EA and Ubi. Song and dance shows. I am a PC gamer (a graphics whore too) but I adore gameplay and think they are both equally important in our visual games. In the end, even if graphics were misrepresented as some claim, Sony still had the BEST showcase of gameplay, gameplay, and more gameplay - not just CGI trailers a la Ubisoft, bringing out celebrity coaches like EA, or babbling away about "we have the best games" like MS.

The big reveal of their show was new hardware. Look at any gaming comment section after the NEO was first mentioned and you'll see a sea of hate and anger - clearly this indicates that gamers are more focused on value for their investment and want great software and content. Sony obviously took this stance seriously, shutting their mouths and drowning the audience with new games.

While the Scorpio might be ambitious, it serves nothing for the millions of xbox owners who are sitting there with what would now be considered a much inferior box (two new models releasing) which lacks the huge range of games and focus on content that Sony are investing in. At the end of the day, it's just hardware - it's everything else that makes or breaks it.

My opinion comes purely from an observation standpoint and has nothing to do with what console is best.
