Before anyone jumps on this lemme make a tldr;

From what we know:

1. Blood toned down(not removed) so that teen rating can be achieved.
2. Deleted scene from God Eater Burst (psp west ver.) restored in this versions western release (scene involves alisa having her breasts grouped)
3. Scene which shows Lindow smoking in opening cutscene MIGHT be removed, unsure as of yet.

Blood toned down is still self-censorship, thus automatic pass.

Even without the censorship, it already was a pass for me, cause Japanese voices won't be included.

Not sure why they bother bringing these titles to the West if they're gonna butcher their releases. The game itself looks interesting. Maybe one day there will be an uncensored and subtitled PC release or something, but I doubt it.

Blood was for a teen rating, else with everything it'd be mature. I wouldn't mind, but it's a niche game and they probably want more sales.

As for the voice actors, I am sad about that. I play most Japanese games in their original language with subs, as the Japanese voice actors tend to be miles ahead of the people they get for the western releases.

If you're holding out, go check out the new sword art game coming in the fall, looks amazing and the previous games have had no censorship and Japanese voice actors. Not sure about attack on titan with voice actors, though the game looks brutal (blood / limb removal).

Sword Art Online didn't have great reviews, I believe. I do like the anime (well, the 8-9 eps orso I watched), but there are so many great games out, I'm not going to bother with the mediocre ones. Still have a huge backlist plus lots of great ganes I haven't even picked up yet (Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Far Cry 4, Ratchet & Clank, Dirt Rally, etc)

The Teen rating gets more eyeballs on the game. If they went with the blood and got a Mature rating then they would have to significantly scale back who they could advertise to. It would honestly end up being a waste since the game doesn't truly make use of the M rating and push heavily into really mature content the way something like that upcoming Berserk game would.

Mind you, Im not making excuses for them. I think blood was in the localized PSP version (er dont quote me on it. Im not sure) so no reason not to have it here too.

In any case, I think its a fair trade in a weird way. We get a scene with story content but we lose some blood splatter.

We're living in a digital age; why not just release 2 versions!? One for a mature audience, ucensored and unbutchered, and 1 that's slightly toned down to make it suitable for the younger ones...!?

Yi Long,

the reason why companies don't release two versions of their games is because they would have to play fees for the digital space, physical space, have two production cycles for a physical product, pay fees to rating boards to rate their product, and they would suffer a mixed marketing issue as well.

If they remove the scene with Lindow smoking that just strikes me as weird. Do they think teens won't have seen hundreds of people in real life who smoke?

Kenshin_BATT0USAI2863d ago

I can imagine why sadly. There's been a growing extremely anti-smoking thing going on in most of North America, your kinda treated like shit if smoke. So anything to deter that would their aim I guess.

Yi-Long2863d ago

Apparently they care more about selling a few copies to some minors, instead of caring about the much larger adult demographic.

It should be a law to state on the cover of a movie, a book, a comic, game, whatever, if the original product has been censored/altered/butchered in any way, and state in which way.

Too many customers have no clue the product they're buying isn't the original version.

I really hope that the new God Eater game would have better area, a better combat, much more fleshed out Blood art mechanic (the blood arts in God Eater 2 where underwhelming), better character customization, better online multiplayer matchmaking, more interactions OUTSIDE of combat, and please, no more unnecessary fanservice scenes.

Bring it. I was a little disappointed that godeater2 in the US didnt include resurrection for download. I know, 1st world problems...
