Is Nintendo Tone-deaf to Gamer Demand?

Recent comments from Reggie Fils-Aime may indicate that Nintendo doesn't intend to compete with Sony or Microsoft's consoles in terms of power. Is the NX the next Wii U?

But yes, i don't know any company who's more thickheaded than Nintendo sometimes.
Maybe it's best for Nintendo to try and (re-) capture the non gamers. The old Wii Crowd.
Most people on a forum like this just buy PS4 and Xbox games anyway. They're too insecure to appreciate Nintendo games.

after the recent upgrade news for both PS4/ Xone and seeing Zelda BoW, i start to agree with that man..

probably i wont upgrade to Neo and instead NX will be day 1 for me (especially if it has exclusive Monster Hunter) as i want a console with a a damn traditional cycle and enjoyable care-free content ...

Sony while released two uber exclusives Bloodborne and U4 (both with serious/adult themes) still to release colorful japan quality exclusives like Zelda or Splatoon (no dont say about R&C because is not at same league ,is inferior with extra beautiful graphics, even Sony's Suhei loved Wii U's content) ....all these blood-bathed games which are coming( GoW,DaysGone, maybe the Death Stranding) are starting to fatigue me and a more joyful approach on exclusives would be refreshing ...you can say about DQBuilders and DQHeroes but both of them are not the AAA we were expecting ...(i m waiting for DQXI)..thats why i was hoping for a Sony made Crash Bandicoot but unfortunately no...

To me that confirms motion control gimmicks with NX because they wouldn't add that to one of the NX biggest titles if it didn't.

Power means jack all. This gen is the first where the 'most powerful' console has come out on top, and it had bugger all to do with it. The PS4 is winning because it has games people want to play on it. If the reaction to the new Zelda is anything to go by, i think a lot o people will be buying an NX simply for that, not to mention all the rumblings about them shaking up all of their major franchises. They make a machine that third parties can easily develop for and give us a steady stream of decent exclusives i don't think nintendo have anything to worry about.

Pretty sure those games (outside of exclusives, that every system has) are available on the X1 and PC as well. If it came down to power, we'd all be PC gamers. All Sony did, was give a clear message on what the PS4 is.. and that's not to knock the X1 which is fine console on it's own, but in it's case MS muddled the message at it's reveal and it's been playing catch-up ever since. Nintendo didn't even bother, they just put out the Wii-U and expected the same people who bought the Wii to buy the Wii-U (those people are long gone, gone to tablets and phones).. I know lots of people who still think the Wii-U is and add on for the Wii and not a new console. Nintendo dropped the ball in naming it.

I think it has more to do with Adam Orth, Don Mattrick ect blatantly insulting the consumer, no used games, the DRM controversy, $500 Xone vs $400 PS4 ect, it was just so much bad PR and Sony took advantage of that. Previous gens show the most powerful home/portable console in terms of sales don't usually come out ahead.

Nintendo develops their consoles based on what their 1st parties want and will most likely always cause 3rd party problems. They see that their 1st party can do amazing things with lower resources compared to PS and Xbox and they see no need in cutting edge tech but that also pisses off 3rd party devs.

Sorry, but specs alone don't drive sales and garner third party support. If the architecture of the NX makes ports of games easily doable and if the NX has a great launch window of titles to gain a strong initial install base, then third parties will jump on board and the console will do just fine.

They just cater to Children and Casuals first. It's been that way since the 80's when I was a child and I loved Nintendo.

Think Splatoon, an awesome game catered to Children and Casuals. Not a bad thing, it just happens to be Nintendo's mantra.

I feel like Sony took the lead in this generation cuz they presented more value in their system. Sure the specs are important, but so is the price in relation to what is offered.

Nintendo can have the best games in the world on NX, but they have to make the system worthwhile for the price.
