Well he is pretty well spot on. Well said.

blitz06232870d ago

"To make developers be aware of it"
Uhh not really. Otherwise, they would have announced the PS4 and Xbox One more than a year before E3. Ever heard of NDA?

NegativeCreepWA2870d ago

Why don't you quote the whole paragraph, instead of just the part that suites your anti ms agenda?

kneon2870d ago

blitz0623 is correct, any major developer doesn't need to wait for E3 to find out about what's going on with the console makers, they will already know long beforehand.

Jamaicangmr2870d ago

@NegativeCreepWA
Or he could just quote the part that he's referencing, damn you all sensitive. He isn't lying now is he? When did they announce the XOne and PS4 in relation to when it released? Stop drinking the coolaid, that was just a bad move. It will hurt their sales massively.

blitz06232870d ago (Edited 2870d ago )

What difference does it make if I quote the entire paragraph? The context changes nothing. Or do you just want me to mention that it will be a big leap in consoles? What does that have to do with announcing it now? Sheesh sensitive much?? I don't see how this is anti MS. I would say exactly the same thing if it was Sony. You fanboys and apologists are unbelievable

Cindy-rella2870d ago (Edited 2870d ago )

They announced the xbox scorpio early to try to slow sonys momentum. The ps4 is outselling the xbox one by a 2.5 : 1 margin worldwide and with rumours of a ps4 neo they think they can lower interest of it.

Microsofts moves lately is a clear sign that the xbox brand is defeated and is a failure. All games going to pc and the constant price drops. They announced a xbox one slim and within the same conference they announced a new and powerful console coming out in 1.5 years time. The xbox one wont have anymore exclusive titles because theyll all be on pc which is less of an incentive to want the console. Desperation is an understatement.

bradleejones2870d ago

I was just admiring his candor about other companies products.

Pogmathoin2870d ago

Oh look pompous Sony prcks on every Xbox thread..... Lots of time to waste till those awesome E3 games arrive on Neo....

miyamoto2870d ago

IMHO Microsoft "overreacted" to PS4's success with two hardware announcements.
Remember how Sega overreacted to the Nintendo PlayStation?

jb2272870d ago

@negativecreep (cool name by the way)

"Scorpio will mark a big leap in the console market, so they wanted to announce it now to make developers aware of it"

One paragraph later:

"The development teams already know that Scorpio is coming"

Pretty clear there, didn't need to announce it publicly to make devs aware if they already were aware.

Also, Greenberg said that independent devs are working and can work on Kinect but their XBO S doesn't even have a Kinect port, so MS has cut all of those indie devs off from putting out content even while they say that they are free to try to develop that content? Mixed message if I've ever heard one.

Also, according to Spencer, there is a real possibility that devs can create Scorpio exclusive titles, so MS' own message about universal games & cross platform play is false, because if a dev creates a Scorpio exclusive, I can't even play it on my XBO or XBO S, much less play it cross platform.

This 'anti ms agenda' amounts to worthwhile questions...MS have purposefully obscured their own message. They said at their conference that this is an open MS platform working to pull in players across multiple platforms, but they admit that they are also actively willing to cut off entire branches of that platform....branches that were only created 3 years & 1 year before the new branches.

That's garbage any way you cut it. I can understand MS wanting to jump to the next generation with the quickness, but I can't be cool with them obscuring the truth about that jump.

I would put real money down that Scorpio launches with an exclusive...playable on PC maybe but not functional on XBO or XBO S.

jessionpc2870d ago (Edited 2870d ago )

@NegatuveCreepWA

Being anti M$ is being pro intelligent.

They ruin everything they touch, they turn everything into paywalls and they take the art and passion out of gaming.

Supporting Microsoft labels you a marketed brainwashed monkey.

Thanks for supporting pay to play with your friends, 2.5 hour interactive movies and DLC.

M$, they help people.

Edit: B-BUT JESSI, SONY DID IT TO- No, they didn't. Nobody supported DLC till M$ came along. It's almost entirely because of them games cost over 100 dollars now, even though there are 10x more gamers now than there were 20 years ago.

What is everyone supposed to do now? It's hard to blame someone who follows suit watching plebs support an anti consumer market, while your competition reaps the reward of western stupidity...

darthv722870d ago

Dont really care why they announced it... holiday 2017 cant come soon enough.

In the mean time, one of those 2tb slims is gonna be mine. August is so close i can feel it in my hands.

TheCommentator2870d ago

JB, MS said that Scorpio exclusives were the VR titles, and everything else will play on all consoles but will be native 4K instead of 900/1080p on an XB1 or XB1S. Also, a Kinect-to-USB adapter will be supplied for free to anyone who needs one, so Kinect works on all XB1 consoles including Scorpio.

donthate2870d ago

What does it matter when it is announced?

Honestly, there is just so much salt all around and I don't mean one side or the other, but both. This video is appropriate:

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Now to set it straight, I think both Sony and MS had great conferences, each with their own strength enjoy that and don't be salty.

nix2870d ago (Edited 2870d ago )

Jb,

You're making too much sense. These Xboxers don't/can't rationalise sense. All they want to see is a powerful machine than PS4. That's their only goal. Not to play games on it. "OMG THE BLADES OF GRASS ON MY SCORPIO LOOKS SO BETTER THAN ON PS4!" that's their ultimate goal.

Pogmathoin2870d ago

@Jession
"Supporting Microsoft labels you a marketed brainwashed monkey."

From Sony fanboy, good lord... this takes the biscuit.... MS gives you near perfect BC, its no big deal, Sony gives you PsNow, and its acclaimed, look, draining my wallet for a game on my shelf...... MS got hammered over Xbox Live fees, now $ony charge, service gets worse, PSN+ delivers the best in ZX spectrum games now..... PsVita, awesome, comes with need to buy super massive inflated SD card.....

Look, neither have a perfect track record, we have all been burned before from both of them..... Sony continously reinvent media storage to get your dollar..... MS does similar things... both are brands, both will whore themselves out to get you.... PS4 is an awesome console, because they did what it took to get you onside, and will now begin old tactics.....

xHeavYx2869d ago

Didn't read the article, but did he really say he wanted to make developers aware of it? Didn't they say that they spoke to developers and asked them what they want for the new console???

Well said indeed. Scorpio will be a Monster (no pun intended). By letting the plans known now, the fanbase can rest at ease that their investments in current games, accessories, and future games won't be left behind as everything now and in the future will be Compatible and scalable.

If you want an affordable and a attractive game system that also happens to include a 4k Blu ray drive, you can do so confidently as all your games from Gears 4, Forza Horizon 3, and all your controllers will be compatible now and in the future.

If you decide later to upgrade to the Scorpio when they decided to want 4k gaming and/or VR, you can chose so. Halo 6 and Forza 7 will be playable on either Xbox console.

I love the reveal as that is how I'd envisioned it months ago.

jb2272870d ago (Edited 2870d ago )

Rookie, you are wrong...Spencer already confirmed yesterday that not everything will be backward & forward compatible. He specifically said he'd leave it "up to the devs" if they wanted to create a Scorpio exclusive, unplayable on the XBO.

Did you envision a reveal of a console sans price, sans form factor, sans release date & sans games? If so then you are pretty easy to please. Scorpio is the next generation going by Spencer's own words, they contradicted their own "Beyond Generations" tag line entirely or they are doing exactly what I said, starting a new generation & working on forwards compatibility from Scorpio onwards, not from the XBO onwards.

Let's wait until we have any specifics whatsoever...as of now we just now it exists & will be 6 tflops. Possibility you can't even play Halo 6 on XBO if 343 decide to go Scorpio exclusive, Spencer already supports them.

Easily the most underwhelming official console generation reveal I've seen in my entire gaming history, stretching back to NES. Not sure how anyone can feel otherwise really, unless the prospect of power is more important to them than actual games?

@fin, classic coming from you, the dude who is present in every single Sony article downplaying & bashing it. I'll leave MS articles when you love Sony ones...care to make a deal there?

I appreciate gaming in general & I don't want people being misinformed by users like Rookie & execs like Spencer. He should've announced that Scorpio can receive exclusives at its reveal. He should've made it clear that Scorpio is the start of a new generation, not an upgrade like people assume. Never said Scorpio wasn't real, just said that we should wait until full reveals for anything, be that Scorpio, Neo or NX. I'l

Fin_The_Human2870d ago

JB why are you in here?

Seriously... Weren't you the one saying that the Scorpio was not real blah blah.

You are the biggest Sony supporter that I know and you can't seem to stay out of MS related articles.

"Rookie, you are wrong...Spencer already confirmed yesterday that not everything will be backward & forward compatible. He specifically said he'd leave it "up to the devs" if they wanted to create a Scorpio exclusive, unplayable on the XBO. "

Wow, I love how you just made up a fake Phil Spencer quote. ROTFL

If you are going to quote something, at least provide a link to back it up. I can be a great example for that. ;)

Here is the real quote from Phil.
Phil "So what we’re basically doing for us on the console is that we have Xbox One, Xbox One S and the hardware capability there, and then we have Scorpio. So we’re basically creating two standards. All games will work across both Scorpio and Xbox One S, but so many developers, because they work on PC already, are used to scaleable hardware capability"
http://www.gamereactor.eu/n...

2870d ago
Mr-Dude2870d ago (Edited 2870d ago )

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/r...

Coming from Phil himself...

"Still running a 1080p TV? Then you should forget about buying Xbox Scorpio.
That’s the message from Xbox boss Phil Spencer. He was asked by Eurogamer about the thinking behind announcing the new Xbox One S only to an hour later reveal a brand new machine, Xbox Scorpio.
“You should buy [the Xbox One S], because Scorpio is not going to do anything for you,” Spencer said after asking the reviewer what TV he had – in this instance a 1080p set. “Scorpio is designed as a 4K console, and if you don't have a 4K TV, the benefit we've designed for, you're not going to see.
“Clearly, you can buy Scorpio, and if and when you decide you want to buy a 4K television to take advantage of the increased performance, obviously the console will be ready for you. For us in the industry, it's easy to think that most power is always the thing that wins. If you look at last gen, what won? The Wii won. The Wii sold more than we did on Xbox 360 and the PS3, and it wasn't the most powerful console out there. Price is critically important. Wii was a good price and it had a great experience.
“Scorpio is for the person who's got a 4K television, who's really focused on 4K gaming. It's going to be a premium price over what we're selling this one for, and both of them will exist in the market at the same time. Scorpio is for your 4K gamer. And that's what we designed it for.”
It was speculated yesterday that while it seems Xbox Scorpio will have a quite significant power advantage over PS4 Neo, that advantage will come at a cost – that literally being the cost, which could be some $100 more than Sony’s new machine""

mechlord2869d ago (Edited 2869d ago )

@Rookie
People keep saying that...but, if you haven't bought a X1 in so far, you're not gonna buy the S knowing that :

1. Scorpio comes out next year;
2. All games really run on windows 10.

rainslacker2869d ago

Normally I don't mind your brand of trolling....but this sounds more like a PR statement than any kind of actual genuine enthusiasm about what was shown. I know you don't expect people to take you seriously, but come on...who talks like you do that isn't being paid to do so?

ziggurcat2868d ago

Rookie:

I think jb got the person mixed up, but Shannon Loftis did say that there was the possibility that devs could make scorpio-exclusive titles if they chose to do so:

"Speaking today during a YouTube Gaming livestream, general manager of game publishing, Shannon Loftis, said it's possible some developers will choose to make Scorpio-only games.

'Some developers may choose to implement the very high-end 4K--and I really hope that they do,' Loftis said. 'But all the games being made right now will run on Scorpio. We're promising forward and backward compatibility. It's hardware innovation without compromising compatibility.'"

But EA/Ubisoft Activision who have barely given up on last gen are gonna move on just to this top end Xbox sure some will but no way are EA who have barely started doing proper current gen games gonna drop 40 million PlayStation users and 20 million Xbox users for the few million that will get this top end Xbox... It's cool it's the most powerful but think it's gonna be out their on its own... Bit like when the Cell chip came out sure it wasn't a generation leap on the competition but as was so hard to develop for gets ignored...by the yearly churn types... Hey ho we'll see but with 3-4 new consoles due in the next 12-15 months and VR gonna be expensive times. NX is day one for me everything else is still up for debate.. Got a VR ordered tho just incase ;)

Lennoxb632870d ago

Who said anyone was going to drop the existing fanbases?

ThatOneRiggaNob2870d ago

Right? They even said that all games launched for Xbox Scorpio will work for Xbox One and Xbox One S. Same goes for PS4 Neo and the original PS4. There will be no leaving exisiting fanbases behind so I really don't know where he got this info when it's been posted all over the internet from both camps.

RosweeSon2870d ago

It'll be a while before they bother going up a gear again.

mechlord2869d ago

I swear... you guys are sooo gullible. Do you really think all games will be cross compatible?
how long until devs get tired of holding back scorpio because of the weaker X1?
How can you not see that this is just backwards compatibility touted as the second coming of Jesus?

Finch2869d ago

@ mechlord

The same way they been doing for years and years with PC. Have a set min specs and a set of max specs. One game with different graphic setting. Only thing different is on this there is no countless in between from low to high setting. So in theory this should be much simpler to code for. One low setting and one high setting.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 2869d ago
RosweeSon2870d ago

Sure the games will work on all systems but if they are being limited to working on both there not gonna push it all the way and use everything the top console has. Ie like when a game releases on PS4 but they still bother to make a PS3 version when really the fans want the best version possible so over PS3/4 obviously it'll be ps4 version but if they have to stretch over two different sets off specs and must include the last lot they won't have many going to the all that effort EA will just grind out FIFA as it is for the next few years sure theyll might make it shine a little more I'll be suprised to see many games truly pushing all this extra tech Scorpio is going to have over a year away.

LastcenuryRob2869d ago (Edited 2869d ago )

The biggest leaps are now in lighting, effects and higher frame rates. Levels and overall game design haven't changed all that much since the 360/PS3...What these new systems will do is take a game to the next level with fantastic lighting, higher resolution textures, better frame rate, full AA and of course output at a higher resolution. Yes it will be the same game on the X1, but with what he Scorpio can do, that same game will look leaps better and most likely play smoother. To some the fancy lighting and higher resolution may not mean much and they will be fine with the X1... For those who want the upgrade the option will be there.

MachuchalBrotha3162870d ago

What part of games working on all Win10 devices did you not understand. The big Xbox Play Anywhere reveal didnt register..

RosweeSon2870d ago (Edited 2870d ago )

I have no interest in Windows 10 but PC's are on par with the new Xbox being touted? Maybe they are bet there cheap.. Not interested in PC gaming barely know what a teraflop is as when I'm playing a game it's never mentioned... Once.
That and some of us had work when the Microsoft show was on but I've seen the games that I need to being as I'm here for the games not the resolutions. I own a 3ds don't think that does 4K 1080... Who cares games are ridiculously good.

Fin_The_Human2870d ago (Edited 2870d ago )

unlike nintendo who announced the nx years in advance microsoft wants to get the word out there to developers and let them know what they are working on. while also allowing the system to scale with the xbox one and be backwards compatable. meanwhile nintendo keeps everything shrouded in secrecy and when the system comes out third party are not ready. all while consumers are left baffled what it is while they release little support for the wii u.

RosweeSon2870d ago

Well that's double standards straightaway Nintendo sure they announced what will be 2 years before they launch but that's an entire new system that no one other than select Devs know about... But Microsoft are allowed to do it because they want to let the Devs know what they are working on? What did Nintendo do then? The fact you say "unlike Nintendo who announced years in advance, Microsoft wants to"... What Microsoft have just announced their console years in advance sure it's not 2 whole years but it's still over a year away looking at 15 months away it's ok tho because it's Microsoft... Hypocrisy at its fanboyist.

RosweeSon2870d ago (Edited 2870d ago )

Of course Nintendo keep things shrouded in secrecy they don't want every Tom dick and Harry plagiarising everything they do like has consistently happened over the years. They want to keep things tight to their chest build up some suspense of the unknown and most importantly not have their entire shows or everything they do leaked out in full. Nintendo will have let developers have Dev kits and people will know just not us gamers. people who will actually make a difference to what releases on the system. The people making the games who can keep their mouths shut. Confidentiality agreements have no doubt been signed.
Some people still like a surprise.
And different fun exciting original and inventive ways to play the timeless classics that Nintnedo produce year after year time and time again with what Sony have been doing the last couple of years and even Microsofts showing yesterday it's a great time to be a gamer but let's not just go down one route with one company there's plenty of options out there.
No one likes a full on fanboy.

Leaks are leaks sure it was only E3 and Nintendo only showed Zelda and Pokemon as they said they would but still companies generally don't like information about their products being common knowledge months/years in advance... Lego have bars on the Windows one employees and a security team just to make sure there are no spies about... I'm not even joking, at least Nintendo don't have an army of Pikmin/Pokemon on the streets giving out some beats/knuckle sandwiches.
At the end of the day tho if all your plans are common knowledge someone will come in do it cheaper etc your hard works all the for nothing, Microsoft sure it was leaked hours before but we didn't know about new consoles halo wars 2 dead rising 4 forza horizon 3 a few weeks ago? Or that there was a beta for halo wars 2 their whole shit was leaked.

freshslicepizza2870d ago (Edited 2870d ago )

they already said e3 would be about zelda, not sure what i said has to do with e3 leaks. nintendo has a multi-decade history of not working well with third party, it's no wonder many are still questioning what the nx is. that's not a good sign when they are supposed to launch less than a year away.

and it's also funny how people think scorpio is going to eat into xbox one sales yet the wii u barely had a heartbeat and announcing the nx certainly didn't help. so much so that they had to keep delaying zelda to tie into with the nx system.

and unlike nintendo and the wii u the xbox one will continue to get software support after project scorpio. this is nothing about being a fanbiy, its called being a realist and the proof is out there with software support on nintendo consoles, the fact the wii u only sold 12 million and the utter disbelief nintendo only plans on selling less than 1 million wii u systems this year.

microsoft is breaking the barriers of console generations and some of you don't know what to do with yourselves now because you don't like change.

DonkeyWalrus2870d ago

Halo Wars 2 was announced last year. Forza Horizon 3 was leaked a long time ago as well.

LastcenuryRob2869d ago

Let's hope Nintendo doesn't do the same thing with the new console...Would love for 3rd party developers to release more on a Nintendo system.

opinionated2870d ago

Its a shame it even needed to be explained...

NegativeCreepWA2870d ago

Sadly this will have to be explained thousands of times over the next year. Wish Sony would of just announced the neo so people would just shut up.

opinionated2870d ago

It's the easiest PR battle Microsoft has faced this gen lol. It's just a shame people don't grasp the massive shift they just made. They just pound away with dumb questions and statements calling Microsoft retarded lol. It's amusing but kind of disappointing..

Fin_The_Human2870d ago (Edited 2869d ago )

I wonder what went on in the Sony camp when MS dropped bthis bomb shell.

Sony was going to announce the Neo at E3 but MS got them of guard...don't even think the will announce it at the PS experience.

Edit: RIPP you really think that the Sony camp does not read rumors on the internet
I am sure word.got back to them about the 6 teraflop monster.

RiPPn2870d ago

@Fin_The_Human: Except Sony announced the Friday before E3 that Neo wasn't going to be there.. oops there goes your theory..

Sony doesn't need to fear anything MS is doing, they are outselling them 2:1 and Scorpio isn't going to change that.. The Scorpio announcement at E3 was more an MS reaction to Neo than the other way around.. why else do you think they announced 2 consoles in the same conference..?

I was hesitant to put these two on. I've personally played more PSO than the RPG version. And shame on me, I don't remember much about Shining Force to talk about it properly.

Former Blizzard President Suggests Players Should Have Option to Tip Developers

Former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra recently suggested an interesting concept that has sparked a debate among gamers - the idea of being able to tip developers after completing a game.

LG_Fox_Brazil9d ago

If I had a 100% way to be sure that this money would go to a fund or a reserve dedicated only to the guys who develop the games, be them designers, artists, programmers and so on, I could think about it.

But we all know that this 'tip' would only end up in a publisher's CEO pocket to buy a new yacht, so, no, I ain't tipping anyone anytime soon on this industry

neutralgamer19929d ago

Exactly these companies were raising money for good causes and gamers were donation and come to find out they are keeping a good chunk of be pie

PapaBop8d ago

Yeah tip your developer, 5% proceeds go to developer, 95% to the publisher or whoever. Isn't tipping for staff not making minimum wage? How about they just pay their developers properly and like you know, give them fair bonuses? Too much to ask from Blizzard these days, Kotick saw to that and is now laughing all the way to the bank.

MrDead9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

It's the t**ts at the top looking at ways to cut devs wages and get the players to tip them like waiting staff, and I'll guarantee a percentage is skimmed and kept by Activision Blizzard. This is 100% for shareholder and CEO playouts.

Popsicle8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

I have to agree with this. On the surface tipping devs sounds like a great idea, but in the end it leads to pay cuts and subsidization of pay. Tips then become an expectation or the devs “can’t make a living.” Lastly, especially in the US, tip culture has gotten out of control, and it serves as an excuse not to properly pay employees. Sounds good but doesn’t end well.

drizzom8d ago

@ Popsicle

I think your right on the nose with how much tipping has become rampant. Instead of it being a relationship directly between the customer and the developer or employee, it now has a middle man ingrained in the system. DoorDash is one example. It ends up becoming a metric where the company can measure 'just how much more money you are willing to part with' before raising the price on the main product.

1Victor8d ago

Uh so they’re trying triple dip or more we buy the game that they’re already withholding/cutting content for dlc we was told that season pass would help the developers thrive we felt for it.
Now on top of all that plus their sales bonus they want tips enough is enough whatever happens to you create/built a good game get a bonus for sales milestones you care about your game and community we reward you with more sales not for doing 3/4 of a game then save the other 1/4 for dlc and passes after

raWfodog8d ago

The 'tip' is me buying your game in the first place.

S2Killinit8d ago

Very well said. If it was possible to send the money to either the developer or some organization for the betterment of gaming, sure. But we all know that will not be the case.

Rynxie8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

No, it would go to those on the top. They will still fire developers, have a bunch of microtransactions, raise prices of games and so on.

bloop8d ago

Ireland is literally the first stop across the pond and we don't have a tipping culture. The only establishments here that would expect a tip are the tourist haunts that Americans visit. Other than that, you might tip in a restaurant as a sign of gratitude for great service and waiting staff would be paid a full wage anyway.

Rebel_Scum8d ago
