the biggest misconception out there is pc gamers have to upgrade every year or every couple of years. that is simply false. pc gaming gives you the luxury of scaling your games according to your hardware unlike consoles. so if i bought a new graphics card for the witcher 3 last year and they come out with the witcher 4 in another 3 years i could still play it. it just might not be the highest settings. and guess what? i can still play the witcher 3 without having to buy the game over again and if i do get a new advanced graphics card in 3 years i can play it at higher settings than before .

example being my old card might be 1080p at high or ultra settings but the new card in 3 years might play it in 4k.

Okay, on the topic of "are there more PC gamers than console gamers," is that true just because every person who owns a PC, who's play any game on it, is considered a "PC gamer"? I have laptop, I downloaded Civ5 and downloaded a couple of other games... would that throw me into the bucket of "PC gamer"? If that's the case then, yeah I guess it would technically be true... but only in the same way as saying that my mother is a mobile gamer cause she downloaded candy crush on her iphone and plays it from time to time.

You say it like PC has optimizations issues all the time which is completely untrue. I hate that people keep saying it now just because of Batman: Arkham Knight.

It does seem like for every big PC release there is at least one "how to fix .... " article to go along with it.

That's because it is the only platform where you have a chance of resolving launch issues yourself before waiting for a patch. Developers releasing buggy software is a trend not limited to PC alone.

These articles can go for any game as well as they often list general PC troubleshooting stuff, make sure graphics drivers are up to date. Make sure you have DirectX installed. Those kinds of things that most PC gamers will do automatically without even thinking about it.

It's also because PC is inherently the most problematic platform for developers. There is a lot of opportunity for software and hardware issues with PC due to the huge diversity of hardware and software configurations.

Consoles gives devs a known target, so testing is much more thorough (unless it's a Bethesda game) leading to fewer bugs. For PCs all they can do is decide on a few representative configurations and make sure the game works for those.

Casual straightforward gaming is consoles it's pick up and play with no fuss.

Buying upgrades and expensive items for an "experience" is usually PC gaming.

Batman Arkham Knight was the exception and it was very disgusting!
The vast majority of 3rd party games look identical or better than the console version but also have options for resolution & frame rate.

Oh and as for terrible ports for PC? Well this is why I love Digital Foundry, there's no hiding for people lying. Pretty much every 3rd party game runs worse than a budget gaming pc

On paper the "Budget PC" should be worse but Intel processors are faster for gaming than AMD FACT!!!
and Nvidia GPUs usually have "lower specs on paper" however their architecture has been more efficient and has had higher performance for years.

It's funny how they manage to be wrong on several points. PC exclusives absolutely dwarf console exclusives in numbers, they just don't get a ton of attention because PC isn't relying on them to drive sales. How many Steam/GoG games are on Consoles? If you guesses "only the more popular indies and AAA franchises" you'd be pretty close.

PC, in fact, does get all the best features, if for no other reason than people can add them comparatively hassle free.

If you want to count the price of online, which PC doesn't have, Consoles are actually more expensive than a budget PC build that will run most everything.

Publishers/conslole manufactures being douchebags with timed dlc is not an arguement for PC not having the best features.

Optomization issues also happen on consoles, and on PC they can often be fixed with mods or ini tweaks.

You were never confined to playing PC games at your desk. Wireless controllers/mice/keyboards have been on PC for ages and there's no need to stream anything when you can plug your computer directly into your TV with either a corded or wireless HDMI cable (provided you do a bit of research and get one with a low input delay) Just use a TV tray or an end table for the mouse/keyboard. You can even switch it back and forth between the moniter and TV essentially at will.
