Three console generations in one game: Twilight Princess HD

Digital Foundry:
Performance is largely a solid 30fps in the Wii U remaster. Even taxing areas like the Hyrule plains run without any drops - with only Faron Woods' use of alpha transparencies causing issues.

Looking forward to its release next month.
Worth the wait!

ChickeyCantor2989d ago (Edited 2989d ago )

It's weird because the original one gives more of a gloomy effect. Like almost a dream sequence. Not saying the textures look better, it just has a better "feel" of atmosphere i guess. Imo obviously.

Concertoine2989d ago

I find the same feeling with Shadow of the Colossus on PS2. The crazy, fluctuating resolution and the pop-in and framerate give it a charm.

Its a lot like the appeal of lo-fi music.

AKR2989d ago

Even with all the whining from fans, it actually impressed Digital Foundry. I'm surprised, considering these guys can be pretty blunt for the most part.

Tantalus did a good job considering that this was only done because Zelda U got delayed. That means this was more than likely whipped up in roughly one year; not bad at all.

JacketsNest1012988d ago

This is why Nintendo is amazing, and other companies can learn from this. It's basically a situation of them saying "We're sorry Zelda U got delayed, so here's a re-master to tide you over."

gangsta_red2989d ago

This series is begging for a collection.

Shuckylad2989d ago

Agree, I'd like them to start the series over with 3 dimensional worlds of the first 3 games.

formanbradley2982d ago

Ocarina, Majora, Twilight, and A Link to the Past
Nintendo pls

ShadowKnight2989d ago

My favorite game is almost here. TBH I love all the Zelda games!

Where Are The Wind Waker And Twilight Princess Switch Remasters At?

Nintendo is a weird company. It has the most illustrious legacy of any single company in the medium and seldom chooses to take advantage of that fact. Countless classics are confined to their original platforms or only available through outdated retail models or a cheeky bit of emulation.

I want a Twilight Princess HD for the Switch I would day one it right now.

GoodGuy09574d ago

This holiday would've been great and it would've calmed my hunger for tears of the kingdom. It supposedly exists but why has it taken this long I wonder. Here's hoping it still releases before totk, maybe a trailer at the game awards and a shadow drop.

Double_O_Revan574d ago

I wouldn't hope too hard. The Metroid Prime Trilogy or even just Prime 1 remaster supposedly exists and has been complete for several years now. Either Nintendo are evil bastards, or everyone claiming it's existence is full of shit. Frankly, I believe both scenarios to be true.

Immagaiden574d ago

Wii U was such a great to play every 3D Zelda game and various 2D ones as well

It'd be nice if Switch caught up to that wealth of legacy content

Inverno573d ago

Booted up WW HD through emulation on Deck. Forgot how much I like that game, it's so charming with how expressive Link is. Ninty has taken too long.

ZeekQuattro573d ago

Nintendo wants the focus on tears of the kingdom. Though with these year Zelda old rumors I question if the collection ever existed for the Switch. Much like the Prime Trilogy that evolved into a remake or remaster of just Prime 1 in recent months.

I am a huge Zelda fan and love them all, but for me Ocarina Of Time is the greatest and my second all time favourite game after Final Fantasy VII.

LoveSpuds604d ago (Edited 604d ago )

You sir, have good taste in games :)

I also love all of the Zelda games but I adore Windwaker (Specifically the HD version on WiiU) most of all. It is a close run thing with Breath of the Wild though.

Special mention to Cadence of Hyrule too, what an awesome spin off title that was!

GaboonViper603d ago

Cheers Spuds, yep i love Windwaker too, beautiful artstyle, and i loved sailing and finding all the secrets out there.

blackbeld603d ago

Agreed. For me top 3 of all time is.

1. ocarina of time
2. Final fantasy Vll
3. MGS1

GaboonViper603d ago

Brilliant top 3, would love a MGS1 remake that has been rumoured.

LoveSpuds603d ago

Yup, hard to argue with that top 3 squire, some quality games right there!

-Foxtrot605d ago

Oh gee can't imagine what Number 1 is

....

A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker etc is better than Breath of the Wild.

lockedongamer1605d ago

I respectfully disagree, but they're all great games.

porkChop605d ago

I think it really depends on what you're looking for. If you want a traditional Zelda game then OoT or WW would be better to you. But if you want a Zelda game that really leans into adventure and exploration, and if you want intelligent systems/logic, BotW would be the better game.

I enjoy both. I understand why some people aren't fond of it but for me it was a breath of fresh air that I really needed. I'd become so burnt out on unimaginative games and BotW sort of made me appreciate games again, as weird as that may sound.

godofboobees604d ago

Those are not traditional Zelda games

Crows90603d ago

Right...so let's pretend ocarina of time didnt have exploration, secret dungeons and other secrets. Complex boss mechanics and exploration rewards. At least a traditional Zelda has dungeons.

porkChop603d ago

What point are you attempting to make? At no point did I say that OoT didn't have any of that. However, the level of exploration and sense of adventure are vastly different between OoT and BotW.

Brazz604d ago

Breath of the Wild is overrated as shot, Wind waker is much better.

P_Bomb604d ago

I’m a Link to the Past guy.

MadLad604d ago

Majora's Mask still holds as my favorite to this day, despite being the black sheep of the series.

pietro1212604d ago

I love them all, but Wind Walker, Link to the Past and Minish Cap are my favorites

John_McClane603d ago

Link to the Past was so, so good! Those chickens though! 🤣
