The Unreal Engine 4 first person shooter set during World War II Battalion 1944, currently in development by Bulkhead Interactive, is setting out to be quite successful among fans of the genre. Earlier this week the team launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, a campaign that's been more successful than the team expected.
From GI.biz: "Battalion 1944 developer Bulkhead Interactive has split with its publisher, Square Enix Collective.
In a message shared on Steam, the studio said it has "formally ended" its relationship with Square Enix and that it was "deeply disappointed that Battalion 1944 never made it to console."
Kickstarter backers will be refunded and Battalion: Legacy, a "revisited and final version of Battalion 1944" will be released for free on Steam on August 16."
"Square Enix just informed me that they have released the 12 month free content roadmap for Bulkhead Interactive's WWII FPS MMO game "Battalion 1944"." - Robin Ek, TGG.
From GameWatcher: "Battalion 1944 is a WW2 first-person shooter that's come out at just the right time, since there's little in the way of competition in this particular niche at the moment. Plenty of people are looking into optimising the game's sometimes spotty performance, too, but the game's obscure graphical options, such as use forward renderer aren't that simple to figure out.
Battalion 1944 use forward renderer is a very particular graphical setting that doesn't work in a very intuitive way, so let us describe what it does and how."
I was thinking about donating money but up to 6v6 was a bit of a letdown. Was hoping for larger player counts for huge infantry battles in cities. Seems like it's like a prettier Insurgency which just came out with a ww2 expansion.
Hopefully this turns out to be pretty decent. Been dying for another go around with WW2 for years...the future is boring me to death
Does it have a campaign.
if this game is like cod2 but with better visuals and updated gameplay I'm sold.
I'd welcome some good WWII games again. After bleeding it dry a few years ago, it's about time we get some more stories told, or told again in the updated engines/hardware. I'd love to see a new Brothers in Arms specifically, but there's still a ton of good stuff there. To be fair Enemy Front seemed just OK, Day of Infamy (Insurgency) is great, and Wolfenstein (new order and old blood) is back in a big way.
