Dark Souls III’s Small Changes Add Up

Starting up the Dark Souls III demo, [Siliconera] had a choice of classes to play from, with some classes having quicker weapons or a focus on magic attacks.

I would love if they put a Bloodborne style agility class in where you could swap your shield for the dodge/dash.

Would make for some interesting PvP too. Shield vs dash.

hugogs3068d ago

Maybe a ring, kinda like the flip animation in darksouls 1 gave you imroved I-Frames

TWB3068d ago

Nah, I think its a good idea to keep the style separate from BB. Roll is fine and it already looks and feels better than the unlocked roll in Bloodborne.

Besides, It would be a good idea to make DaS3 feel different because when Fromsoft reveals/makes their next PS4 exclusive (according to the rumors) that may be a BB sequel/in the same vein as BB, the dashing will feel fresh again ;)

SpinalRemains1383068d ago (Edited 3068d ago )

What a great idea. Have this class, along with their ability to have orange returnable health upon forced combat like BB too. That's what sets BB apart. It forces you to jump in and tear stuff apart.

TheNemesis5013068d ago

^^^this, the lack of dodge/return to rolls only mite make the game feel outdated after playing bloodborne.

Perjoss3068d ago

I dunno, I love Bloodborne (its by far my goty) but going back to Dark Souls does not feel dated at all, its just a different style of play.

Eiyuuou3068d ago

Yeah. Besides, we don't want more people to go and call it a "Bloodborne clone".

SpinalRemains1383068d ago

Looking forward to this.

Going to feel weird not being able to restore health through blow trading though.

I've grown very accustomed to that.

Never played any games from FromSoftware but i started Bloodborne on thanksgiving day and i cant be any happier. Once i beat this i think i might just start with dark souls 3 and work my way down to dark souls 2.

fonduktoe3068d ago

skip 2 and go to the first dark souls

JustGamin853068d ago

idk if dark souls is out for ps4 if not ill just pick up a copy for ps3, poor little bugger been collecting dust for some time now.

DkS2 seemed dissapointing coming off DkS and Demons. Too many enemies, the world was linear with too many areas. There was no intricacy and bosses were fairly boring. Nothing memorable like Sif or Tower Knight. Being invaded while hollow sucked since there were pvp areas you had to traverse that were filled with glitches and trolls.

That said I have extremely fond memories of going to the Last Bastille, The Gutter, and The tomb later in the game was insanely hectic and fun. The dlc was impeccable also. It was no Dark or Demons which were genuinely inspired and had a beautiful haunted atmosphere. It still was damn fun though. Running around with an Ultra Greatsword demolishing everything, PRICELESS!

TWB3068d ago (Edited 3068d ago )

I would have to agree with fonduktoe. Some of the core fans are very split on Dark Souls 2 and wether its a worthy sequel to the original. I would suggest going DaS3 -> Original DaS, then -> DaS2 SOTFS if its any way possible for you. Optionaly even Demons Souls would be great idea to pick up before DaS2.

Though I have heard that alot of first timers or people "who only picked Bloodborne for curiositys sake" have generaly enjoyed DaS2.

I personaly think its much more dickish with traps n such, has much more groups of enemies to gang up on you, and has less satisfying movement system/dodging and the amount of i-frames is tied to specific stats that make the game experience very... variable. Those are my main 3 gripes that prevent me from enjoying the gameplay fully.

The world may also feel much more stock fantasy and alot of the bosses can be very underwhelming compared to the brilliant selection BB has. For example, fighting some of the more standard mob enemies as Chalice Dungeon bosses is about on the same level as some of the weaker/less interesting DaS2 bosses except Bloodborne boss pushovers have more varying moveset...

All Im saying is... if you find certain things about Bloodborne and (soon) Dark Souls 3 excellent, Dark Souls 2 might be a little... jarring experience. It did do few things well and tried some new things.

Also, 60FPS on the new Scholar of the First Sin version. Definitively looks more fluid than BB and DaS3.

Just helping a hoonter with a lenghty post.

Do yourself a favor and DON'T skip DS2. Don't let someone else's bias make you miss a very very good game.

Eiyuuou3068d ago

Don't skip 2. It's the least good of the entries, but still an amazing game nonetheless.

I hope it's more like Dark Souls I it's easily better than Dark Souls II and Bloodborne

WildArmed3068d ago

While I agree Dark Souls I was WAAAY better than 2.

I think for the Souls series, it goes:

Demons > Dark I >>> Dark II.

Bloodborne combat is too different to compare it to a Souls.

Bloodborne was my GoTy this year (the chalices dungeons was a great idea, and so was the shieldless fast paced combat), and I expect DS3 to my GoTY next year!

I'm glad the Dark I team is making Dark III.

Review: Mastering Dark Souls 3 Is A Monumental Achievement - Gamescordia

Dark Souls 3 is easily the most replayable game in the Dark Souls Series. But, is the game good enough to spend nearly 10 hours killing Silver Knights alone?

These games bore me to tears. I don’t mind the difficulty it’s just the constant killing the same enemies over every time you rest that makes it so monotonous

jznrpg157d ago

You open up a lot of shortcuts so you can skip many enemies. But if I don’t like games I don’t buy them.
