Star Wars Battlefront Lets Your Stormtrooper Fight Without Their Helmet and Fans are Angry

CraveOnline: "For the first time in Star Wars history, Stormtroopers will be depicted fighting without their helmets in Star Wars Battlefront. Needless to say, fans of the series aren't particularly happy with this cosmetic option, arguing that it significantly downplays the intimidation factor of the Empire's evil army."

I really don;t understand this type of fanboy rage. Go watch Starwars Episode IV. Luke and Han dress up as storm troppers, and have their helmets off practically the whole time. Whats the big deal?

Neonridr3080d ago

hell even Finn takes off his helmet in the Force Awakens.

venom063080d ago

wow... talk about the STUPIDEST thing to be butthurt about.. play the game and have fun...

jmc88883080d ago

Exactly.

I'm guessing the clone production line has been stopped or destroyed, so their regular people have to be stormtroopers now.

Either way, it's a stupid reason to be pissed off at.

It just goes to show you, people are looking for any little thing to destroy this game. People have gone psycho. If this game doesn't match up perfectly with how Star Wars is in our minds (errors included...like the helmet thing), and it doesn't contain everything that was supposed to be in the canned Battlefront 3... and if they announce a DLC pack before release... and... and...

This is the sort of thing this game is facing. It's insane.

People are doing the same thing with Fallout 4. It's basically the same quality as Fallout 3 was at launched, but people are going crazy on it.

People need to calm down and enjoy things. There is no perfection, it's not coming. Enjoy the games for what they are, as they are still quite good.

2nd prequel movie had some which didn't wear their helmets at times.

There's nothing in the cannon that says they have to wear helmets as far as I'm aware. Thought it was just a way to reuse the same extras over and over again.

yomfweeee3080d ago

They weren't real stormtroopers, so that doesn't really mean anything.

Finn taking his helmet off like Neonridr said is a better argument, even though we don't know the circumstances behind it.

I do find it odd that they would do this, but don't see the need to rage about it.

Death3080d ago

I think the better argument is no argument. I wish my biggest problem in life was nerd-rage over storm trooper dress code. :(

lipton1013080d ago

Not real storm troopers my man. You never saw a face of a single one in any of the movies, barring the clones in the prequel trilogy. I'm pissed about it because that would never happen. The empire is strict in discipline and big on authoritarianism. They should have allowed us to customize our troopers, yes, but once they take off their helmets, it just ruins it.

FullmetalRoyale3080d ago

The Empire is done, my friend.

TitanUp3080d ago

What if storm troopers show their faces more often in Star Wars 7?

lipton1013080d ago

I just don't see it happening. My biggest reason for being against it, and hear me out here, is the intimidation factor of the imperial army. Nameless, faceless evil blitzing across hoth terrified the rebels in Episode 5. But faces, they carry and convey emotion. Even if the imperial army were not all clones at the time, I still don't see the helmets coming off. #1 reason is obvious and has to do with protection. #2; it's easier to commit evil acts when hiding behind a mask. Here's a few questions for you:

Would Michael Meyers be as scary if he didn't wear a mask? Same goes for Jason or any other masked murderer ever portrayed on screen.

Also, what's more believable, an unmasked storm trooper carrying out atrocities or a faceless uncaring entity culling their enemies with no mercy?

Now granted, in the real world, all sorts of people commit evil acts. Normal human beings carried out the holocaust without question. But also, and I don't recommend it, but if you ever come across a legit beheading video, as disturbing as one is, 75% of the time, the perpetrator wears a mask.

To me, that mask makes the storm trooper. I like to immerse myself into my games when I play. That storm trooper sprinting across the frozen wastes of Hoth sans helmet just instantly breaks that immersion. I want star wars battlefront, not battlefield: battlefront.

thejigisup3080d ago

Real storm troopers aren't even humans, just humanoid so it's way off

Death3080d ago

lol, when did stormtroopers become scary? Besides, aren't they half assed clones of one of the Fetts?

lipton1013080d ago

I never said they were scary to the audience members, but to the rebels, you really think they'd lock them up in a cozy cell and provide 3 meals a day for an indefinite amount of time? F**k no man. They'd kill and torture them with the full faith and credit of the imperial army behind them. They're an evil force, not just a nation with a difference of opinion. They are not held accountable for war crimes. Theyve always been portrayed as nameless, faceless killers, correct me if I'm wrong???

yomfweeee3080d ago

@thejigisup What are you talking about? I think you're confusing clonetroopers (I assume you were saying clones aren't real humans or something) and stormtroopers

darx3080d ago

Star Wars is not real

rainslacker3079d ago

Maybe if they weren't so strict and allowed them to take off their helmets they could actually hit something with their guns.

I mean, for clones being made from a supposedly very capable warrior, they had terrible battle skills, and couldn't aim with sh*t.

I think that the fact that the original movies themselves depicted the Stormtroopers as incompetent cannon fodder kinda debunk this outrage... The mistake was made all the way back then. They got higher status now, sure. But they have rarely been very terrifying in any of the non animated movies...

Immorals3080d ago

Plus in the original trilogy stormtroopers are either descendants of the clones or recruits from imperial planets!

OC_MurphysLaw3080d ago (Edited 3080d ago )

I think the anger is coming from the hardcore Star Wars fan base. To be honest... I get why they would be some what miffed. The only "Storm Troopers" to ever take off their helmets were Luke and Han Solo posing as Storm Troopers. The fact of the matter is cannon (the films) has never shown ONE Storm Trooper with their helmets off. It is part of their mystique. They are a faceless army and that in and of itself gives them character that has a deadly and ominous feel. I would have rather they left helmets on and just did different markings on the helmets.

BattleTorn3080d ago (Edited 3080d ago )

Additionally, some of the accessories Battlefront offer's stormtroopers quite clearly utilize a in-helmet HUD

Also, to the contrary I believe we've seen Clone Troopers fight past loosing their helmets several times, in the Clone Wars/Rebels cartoons

As a diehard, it's worth noting no one is complaining about Boba Fett being on Endor or Jakku...

OC_MurphysLaw3080d ago

@BattleTorn... ah... I never really got into the Clone Wars so I definitely missed that. My experience pretty much has been film and well you know where that goes.

Kidmyst3080d ago

Remember, people get outraged over a red coffee cup. Nuff said.

The 10th Rider3080d ago

Honestly, very few people were actually outraged about that. A better way to put it would be to say "countless people got outraged at some supposed outrage over a red coffee cup."

d3nworth13080d ago

Fanboy minds work differently to ours. They dont understand that this is an option.

CorndogBurglar3079d ago (Edited 3079d ago )

To be fair, Luke and Han aren't actually Stormtroopers, so that comparison means nothing.

But yeah, what a stupid thing for people to freak out about. Its only an option for your character's look. You don't like it? Choose to wear a helmet. Whats the big deal?

These idiots should be more upset about how cool and intimidating the Stormtroopers look in the movies, yet they are actually the least feared characters in the entire series because none of them can hit their targets.

SIX3079d ago

Hahahaha!Because NERDS! (I'm a nerd too BTW :)

slappy5083080d ago

Hmm I wonder if fans will get upset if the storm troopers are able to shoot on target, cause that would also be against the grain?

DrRobotnik3080d ago

I wonder if Star Trek fanboys complain this much?

The 10th Rider3080d ago

Remember the backlash about Alice Eve's underwear scene in Star Trek Into Darkness?

Aspyr if we sell hotcakes get that code from radical or something and create battlefield 3 please

Becuzisaid54d ago

I thought that was kind of obvious they were incorporating mods to piece this game together. Maybe not, but that's made me worried about one thing:

They also planned on adding the modded ending to KOTOR 2 but were legally blocked from doing so, even after they advertised that to help sell preorders for the game on Switch. Could the same happen with this? Any opponents have 3 weeks to bring down the hammer.

GoodGuy0954d ago (Edited 54d ago )

Wish these games would just get remakes.
