Fans Don’t Want Video Game Adaptations, They Want Video Game Movies

Are game-to-movie film adaptations such as Assassin’s Creed, Ratchet & Clank, and Uncharted doomed to fail before they even begin?

All they have to do is remake the game for a film, take out the gameplay elements and some story related plot points which are only added to provide the game with more levels to stretch the game out and they'll be fine.

When Hollywood adapts books like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings they never feel the need to change 90% of the story so why change video games so much. The reason most book adaptations do so well is because they stick to the source material where they can. I mean things like Sin City and Watchmen have some scenes in the film literally taken from the comic.

I know people might think "Well it just means I'm going to watch something with a copy and pasted plot along with some copied dialogue" but the thing is it's not for us. It's a new way for other people who don't play games to experience the story in another form of media.

Even with things like Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, yes there are changes but it's usually things the creative mind behind it wants because it's something they wished they could have changed in the comics, like Rick getting his hand cut off in the Walking Dead, something Robert Kirkman wish he hadn't done.

They could literally get Amy Hennig to condense the Uncharted script down, keep the dialogue and I'd probably enjoy the film a lot more if they were to change everything for the sake of it

Naw ratchet would be awesome

True.

The Ratchet & Clank movie is being animated just like in the games. Same voice cast. Same writer.

Actually... I'd love to see a lot of series properly adapted.

Too many times people write the medium off as a poor storytelling venue, seeing a good adaptation articulate a game's story could work wonders to dispel that notion in the mainstream.

Plus being real, Ratchet & Clank looks amazing.

Yep, DBZ movie being a great example of that.

That Hitman trailer spoiled everything in the movie. Grr... On the other hand, ima check out Heavenly Sword on netflix, reviews be damned.

The best games of their generation too. Its incredible how great most if not all of playstations games are. Whether you like the stories or not you cant deny the quality of each title.

Hated tlou part 2. But im going to buy it when it is cheap enough because i want to play the remastered content for $10 extra dollars. Theyre adding a roguelike mode...thats going to be fun!
