Apple is planning to make some massive gamer-affecting changes to games on its iOS store.

This kind of sucks for gamers...

Shillmeister3116d ago

It's bad, so much for a 'great digital future.' One where you don't own anything! >_>

kiDRoBov23116d ago

you're not paying for them to keep a game on their server for the sake of your purchase history. it sucks that Apple is doing that, but if you're gonna buy something digital, dont delete it. if you buy it digital, you're paying for the file. the same file that's on the physical copy of any game. it's always wise to transfer your purchases into your iTunes by the way. Same goes for an Xbox One/PS4 game. dont delete your games for space, buy more space.

u4one3116d ago (Edited 3116d ago )

a) its only if the developer themselves remove the game - which in all probability means its not supported anymore anyway

b) its possible to just simply make a backup of your phone before you delete games and restore them from the backup

c) this actually helps with security as old and or unsupported software no longer leaves holes as the software evolves.

d) who is going to pay for the storage of all of these apps that are no longer supported, just so you can possibly download it some day in the future after you already deleted it off your phone. if you deleted it off the device you aren't doing much with it anyway obviously.

Baka-akaB3116d ago

Actually people are paying them quite enough to offset such costs ...

At some point there gotta be a limit to nickel and dimming on the back of your customers .

_-EDMIX-_3116d ago

Agreed. P.T might have not been enough to convince folks about what an all digital future could entail, well this news sure might.

Once something is up on a server and can only be download, anyone's purchase is at risk. I'm only ok with digital games because we have physical options.

Digital only is very much a bad thing for consumers, as to what is happening right now to those who play IOS games.

donthate3116d ago (Edited 3116d ago )

FYI: Apparently this isn't true and the policy hasn't changed at all:

"Not so fast. The saga has taken another interesting turn. TouchArcade reached out to Apple and was told by Apple PR that there has been no policy change. So that still leaves the question why the apps have been disappearing from the Purchase History.

The interesting mystery is solved. But you shouldn’t be happy at all."

christian hour3115d ago

Exact same thing happened to me a few years ago on 360, my purchase of Fable 1 via xboxOriginals was no longer accesible :(

Havent had this problem yet with PSN, but who the hell knows what the future holds.

Palitera3115d ago

Baka-akaB

Why would there be a limit?
The players are the ones that should impose it and we know that these are by far the most lenient and lazy consumers out there. They will still buy from Apple Store, regardless of ANYTHING Apple does. The same goes for Microsoft, Sony etc.

And no, yelling on Twitter or crying out loud on Facebook does not count as digital guerilla. lol

BattleAxe3115d ago

I've never had any real confidence in Apple to become a proper competitor in the gaming space, and I suppose this pretty much ruins any chance of them actually bringing hardcore gamers on board with Apple TV.

Godmars2903115d ago

You're just now realizing this? Didn't see it coming when it was announced?

ios + Digital is NOT the future.

It's pushed because the profit margin is better for the companies, and they get to get more while giving less.

Juts another reason I don't game on my iphone. Not worth it.

Palitera3115d ago

If it is so much better for the companies, why do you say it is not the future?

Because the interneters don't like it?

3-4-53115d ago

Because we the people have the money, and if we don't like it, we don't spend it.

If we don't spend it, they don't make a profit and they are then forced to change their ways or go out of business.

Have you never gone to school and learned stuff ?

Palitera3115d ago

Have you never met real life, where mad people at forums don't rule the world?

Joey_Leone3115d ago

You dont own digital things that rely on service

DragoonsScaleLegends3115d ago

It sucks but I don't feel sorry for people who waste their money on overpriced apple products.

BISHOP-BRASIL3115d ago

Yup, I was like "So what?"... Does this people suddenly care to not be ripped off? If so, they started wrong. Paying hundreds of dollars for a new phone every year to pay even more for worthless games that feel like crap and now they are going to cry over old crap games they never owned (if they cared to read the policies) and had even deleted to begin with?

I'm not saying any of it is fair or right, in fact that's why I still refuse an all digital future, but let's not pretend that this is the big problem for the iPhone crowd... I'm sorry if you're an iPhone owner and was affected by it in anyway, but as they say, a fool and his money... This kind of thing is to be expected.

BG115793115d ago

Yep, totally agree. That is why I love the bluray, DVD,CD or catrige...
Physical support for life!!!!!

DC7773115d ago

Yep. Adios mobile gaming.

This is why gamers will always have the need for physical games. A digital only platform will always be subject to this

c00lvilKid693116d ago

Definitely agree with you on this. In general, I stay away from digital downloads. It's all about that physicality and ownership over something tangible.

Relientk773116d ago

Agree I will always choose physical copies over digital

SteamPowered3116d ago

How are you going to use physical media on your Iphone/AppleTV?

stalepie3116d ago (Edited 3116d ago )

I wish more collections of indies came out, like those "Best of Playstation Network" blu-rays from a while back on PS3, but I think they only did one.

Doesn't have to be just indies, of course.

ConboyAdam3116d ago

Sometimes its like Apple thinks the internet doesn't mock it enough so its gotta pull stunts to rile us up

u4one3116d ago (Edited 3116d ago )

yet they are the most valuable company in the world... its usually the douchey internet haters and they are the minority. if they weren't, apple wouldn't be where it is. as if hating a successful brand somehow makes them cooler. who cares. they are the same people that hate when Facebook adds a feature or changes the layout or fears any type of change to anything thats different than what they are used to right this second. the stuff people freak out about is really insignificant 8-10 times.

apple just released a new phone that broke every sales record ever for a phone launch - that was just weeks ago... and it reviewed extremely well on top of it. they must be scared.

this whole entitled, self righteous, I'm being robbed or limited or things are being taken away from me mentality is annoying. read the fine print for anything computer/software related and see what your rights really are.

this whole thing is simply apple saying they aren't going to keep software on their servers if the developer themselves remove it... why would they keep it if its not supported?? GASP they could waste all that storage and bandwidth just so i have the satisfaction of knowing i can download some unsupported game some distant time in the future... i'll never get that $2.99 back. the horror....

and just for the record, all companies do this. you can't just go on the internet and re-download some random software you bought at some point in the past 10 years ago or after the publisher went belly up or whatever event has happened. sometimes the OS itself stops supporting software. you ever try to run an old pc game from the 90s on your brand new rig? usually doesn't work out so well.

you don't even own the software. you are paying for the right to use it on your machine. same goes with apple, ms, sony and everyone else. theres a reason that when a studio or publisher buys a game it costs millions of dollars and when you and i "buy" a game it costs tens of dollars... lets all think about why that is.

Immorals3116d ago

Please don't defend apple, they brought fashion to the technology market, that's why they sell.

On a technological level, they charge more than their competitors for a limited, less powered device. They then take ideas from other products, slip an 'i' or 'apple' before it an unveil it as a brand new, groundbreaking feature, whilst every one of their iOS updates has been buggy and sometimes bricks products.

Their target market is everyday folk that buy what's popular with little to no knowledge of what powers their device, they just see its more expensive and assume it must be better.

christian hour3115d ago

So much wrong with u4one's post not to mention such a warped view on how these things work and operate...

I'm not even going to bother with a response, too many time's I've put time in to one and it's fallen on deaf ears.

shadowknight2033115d ago (Edited 3115d ago )

Theres nothing wrong mixing fashion with technology
I.e everyone I talk to always love the sleek look of the galaxy s6

N0TaB0T3115d ago (Edited 3115d ago )

You yourself shouldn't have a say in anything, u4one.

Defending a corporation for poor decisions are why we're here in the first place. Besides you probably do not spend your own money on digital media to ever harbor such ilk point of view.

Yukes3116d ago

Is this the future? Increasingly less control and a diminishing sense of ownership? No idea why anyone continues to support Apple.

Dark_Overlord3116d ago

It's all about marketing, which Apple seem very good at sadly :/ They could put out the biggest pile of crap possible, yet with the right marketing people would still buy it, as Apple are seen as the 'hip' thing to have currently.

There was a bloke a while ago who proved good marketing was all you need, he made an ad to sell 3 paper bags for £10 (you could prob get hundreds for that price), yet the way he worded it made the bags seem like the greatest thing ever and he sold loads.

Just ordinary paper bags, and no complaints, as people assumed the bags were great. He did eventually return everyones money and explained that they were ordinary bags and how he'd used wording to make them seem great.

Apple phones are the most fragile things I've ever came across, I'm genuinely sick of repairing them for people.

spektical3115d ago

:O I tired searching for this story. Do you have link? sounds like an interesting read.

eferreira3116d ago

Microsoft removed some my 360 games. It's every company not just Apple. You're just finding ways to hate on them more.

christian hour3115d ago

"it's every company"

As of today I can still download all my Steam games and all of my PSN games.

What 360 games did you lose? The only one I lost was an xboxClassic title (fable 1) and that was when MS quietly put that idea out to rest like old yeller.

scarecrow20143116d ago

So first they go and make a phone so badly it bends in your pocket and now this? Innovative genius (insert sarcastic tone here)

I had the LaserActive... it was a nice collectors piece but not very practical. Especially when it came to needing recapping. I think i paid all of about $50 for the floor model from an incredible Universe back in the day. I ended up selling it many years later for $300 at the time due to it needing a new laser and the aforementioned recapping.

An honorable mention not on the list would be the VM Labs Nuon. It basically looked like any regular DVD player but it had ports on it for controllers to play specific games. one of which is still exclusive to it with Tempest 3000. It also offered nuon enhanced DVD movies with extra content not accessible by regular players.

Why Epic's Win Against Apple And Google Paves The Way For The Future Of Mobile Gaming

Epic Games winning its cases against both Apple and Google is shaping the way forward for the future of mobile gaming.

shinoff218337d ago

I feel alot of mobile gamers are kids which will at some point probably turn to console or pc. Mobile gaming just doesn't cut it for me.

AlterRecs36d ago

tru dat, but i feel like it's gonna be a lot more viable for people who travel a lot or don't want to invest in a full gaming rig. Think of it as a Switch on drugs, with a LOT more room for free illegal downloads.
