Star Wars Battlefront Will be a Disaster

Star Wars Battlefront II was an iconic game in the genre. Expanding on the premise of the first title, it took the notion of Battlefield, dropped it into the Star Wars universe, and allowed you to fight planetside, as well as in space. For many, it was the definitive Star Wars game, and on paper at least, the upcoming sequel should have been everything that players could have hoped for.

We'll have to wait and see

Erik73573120d ago (Edited 3120d ago )

It's actually not bad...just not as near as good as the old ones.

Like everyone wants battlefront...not what this one is!

Don't get me wrong it's great but it doesn't feel like battlefront to me at all.

Where are the bots?
Why is the conquest mode NOT the main mode?
Why is it only 40 players if we have NO bots?!?!?

These are all problems for me.

Nitrowolf23120d ago

Why is there a token system? Like thats my biggest gripe with this game, they should have just kept it like 2 or even did it like they did in BF3 and 4. I just hate this Token system, because it basically means that there are people not playing the objectivae and just token hunting

venom063120d ago

its going to be just fine. Hell, we haven't seen many of the modes, many of the weapons and hell, THIS IS THE PURPOSE OF A BETA. To test the network. And find things that to tweak and fix. Its actually pretty dang fun.

christian hour3119d ago (Edited 3119d ago )

I think the only people who are okay with this game are diehard Battlefield players and people who never played the original Battlefront games, or who were not following the development of Battlefront 3 closely.

This is just battlefield with a star wars skin, you could save yourself the money by downloading a free star wars mod that exists for several of the battlefield games.

I'll buy in to the series when simultaneous land/space battles are part of the core experience. By that I mean, people attacking/defending planetside, whilst others are dog fighting in space, landing in space stations and deactivating shields and automated defences for your buddys on the surface. THAT is what Battlefront is to me, or at least that was what it was going to be with Battle Front 3. This is just an unfortunate step back and I can see them selling the game mode I mentioned as DLC, and then talk it up like we're lucky to have such a game mode.

This game doesn't come from a place of fun or passion, it was EA sitting on an IP until it made profitable sense to release one off the back of the hype of a new movie trilogy, plain and simple. The attention to detail is nice, but other than that there's not much here to get excited about, Dark Forces II is a far superior game and that's almost 20 years old.

Personally I havent enjoyed a DICE game since BadCompany2 (or bf1943 I guess). They removed so much of what made those games good from BF3 onwards.

Palitera3119d ago (Edited 3119d ago )

Because is is a Battlefield game, Fries and Nitro.
Things make more sense when you realize this. Battlefront is an official mod, the base game is Battlefield. :)

But, no, It won't be a disaster. The gameplay seems rock solid.

UnwanteDreamz3119d ago (Edited 3119d ago )

@Christian Hour

The only people I see trashing this game are Battlefront fanboys. Get over it and move on. This game is going to do well despite you vocal few wishing this was something it never tried to be.

sonarus3119d ago

@christianhour. Yea no simultaneous space battles is a bit of a deal breaker. Havent played enough of the beta to form strong opinion either way

this article is kinda dumb but hey, i guess since it cool to bitc# about EA and since there's no space battles, its going to be a disaster.. Even though we haven't seen any other modes, and other weapons, any other maps and even though MANY are enjoying it.. So many braindead zombies on N4G.

user99502793119d ago

spot on. Just more calculated hate from the sheep. I played for a solid 4 hours yesterday and at no point did it occur to me that the game would be a "disaster". It's remarkably fun and seemed completely stable to me.

It's moments like when you find yourself charging up a hill behind Darth Vader with 10 other storm troupers with explosions going off and an AT-ST charging beside you and blaster fire filling the air and rebel troups bodies being thrown around and Xwings fighting above that the game really shines. Insane moments like that were constantly cropping up while I played. If you cant find enjoyment in this game then I'm not sure why you would play shooters at all, TBH.

It's not a "hardcore shooter" by any stretch, but you can be good at it and it is a lot of fun. But of course haters will be telling us all that its a flop for the next 5 years because, hey, EA, right? Gotta toe the "party line".... because then you will be internet popular... smh.

christian hour3119d ago

It's not "cool" to bitch about EA, It's only fair to call out a company on it's bullshit. What an immature view to have on things.

It's not the lack of space battles that is upsetting people, it's the lack of anything that seperated the original Battlefront from other shooters. This is just another Battlefield game with a star wars skin and the last person this was made for, was "the gamer".

That's why people are dismissing it.

SpaceRanger3120d ago

You really want this game to flop don't you? lol
I'm not basing that assumption solely on this comment, but on your attitude toward anything non-Halo, and non -MS Exclusive.

It's really not that hard to see it d_g

On Topic:
The game is absolutely spot on with the immense atmosphere it provides. No game stacks up really to the scale of bringing one of the biggest entertainment franchises to consoles. It's an experience in itself.

d_g3119d ago (Edited 3119d ago )

"I'm not basing that assumption solely on this comment, but on your attitude toward anything non-Halo, and non -MS Exclusive."

are serious ? So you judged me Base on my profile Picture

just because my avatar Pic is from halo that doesn't mean i only like halo and MS Exclusive.

"You really want this game to flop don't you? lol"

Psh...do you read minds or something

Lmao at your logic

Allsystemgamer3119d ago

Sure it does a good job representing Star Wars

Battlefront 2 did it way better. That's the issue. It's not a conspiracy. This game is missing literally EVERYTHING but the look of the previous games. It plays nothing like battlefront at all. In fact walker mode is just a dressed up RUSH mode from battlefield.

In battlefront 2 you actually had to destroy the shield generator. WITH the ATAT your ass brought from one end to the other. Not babysitting an on rails token based mobile turret.

psman0123119d ago

Man, I don't know about all of you negative Nancy's but I'm loving this game so far. Yes, it is glitchy. Yes, it needs some polish. Yes, the audio cuts out on my Soundbar on the PS4 more often than it should. But as said by someone else, ITS A BETA! This IS the point of a beta. As someone who didn't play Battlefront 2, I have nothing to compare it to besides battlefield 3 , and man am I loving it. I'm not even a Star Wars fan. The combat is so fluid and easy to get used to. The power ups do feel kind of immature, but it's a great way to grab casual players imo. I have really high hopes for this game and I'm hoping EA doesn't mess this up too bad.

d_g3119d ago (Edited 3119d ago )

Why people take my comment as negative impression of the game ?

what i meant is we have to wait and see if it's going to be good or bad

To me so far it looks good but i wish the price was like 40$ or at least 50$

S2Killinit3119d ago

I donno i thought the beta was great. It definitely looked like Star Wars.

On a lighter note: is NOTHING sacred anymore?? Lol its Star Wars god dam* it.

Seems like since people found out it's 720p on X1 all of a sudden the game is "going to suck".

Nitrowolf23119d ago (Edited 3119d ago )

Pfffft, have you been on other boards outside of n4g? There were complaints and doubt well before the whole 720p. Even pc guys are mixed about it

Idk why it has to be this reason when all platforms are having people with mixed feelings about it

Heck myself included and i own it on ps4. Ive already purchased it through psn but im not sure if from the beta ill get my moneys worth.

And before people complain its just a beta, really not much is gonna change aside from bugs. My issues are with thr gameplay mechanics that theyll most likely not change

Like to me, its fun, but is it fun enough to play for months on? IMO no

It does an awesome job at making it feel like stars wars, with the sound and visuals, its probably the best form of media out there aside the movies but that can only go so far.

christian hour3119d ago (Edited 3119d ago )

"Seems like since people found out it's 720p on X1 all of a sudden the game is "going to suck"."

Maybe for newcomers and immature folk who primarily spew hatred for nonsensical reasons, that's why... but they don't count.

But for people who've been with the IP since the beginning, or for people who've been playing Star Wars games in general for 20+ years, they just consider the whole thing a half assed insult.

I'm one to agree with the latter, but I also gave up on supporting EA a long time ago, and Dice not too long ago as well. So I've multiple reasons to avoid this game. Of course I'll still get it for free anyway since the guy I library share on ps4 with is a big FPSpvp gamer, so I'll give it a whirl for a day on release.

(on a side note, there is the odd exception where EA will gain some profit off of me, and that's for games with devs who deserve the love and support, like Unravel, to give a recent example.)

TheBurger293119d ago

The game lacks so much, very repetitive. Survival is the only good mode. The big thing is the fucking vehicles are stupid pick-ups, so either be lucky and get one or no at-st for you.

Thatguy-3103120d ago

People are so pessimistic smh. I'm enjoying the heck out of the beta. This game deserved a story tho.

isa_scout3119d ago

I'm actually pleasantly surprised with the battlefront beta. It feels great, finds matches in a flash, and looks so authentically Star Wars. A story mode would've sealed the deal for a lot of people though. This,Halo, and fallout are going to eat up all of my time until Uncharted 4.

christian hour3119d ago

"looks so authentically Star Wars."

Thats the problem, it looks star wars, but it doesnt play like Battlefront. It doesn't have any of the great things Batllefront 3 was bringing to the table. It's just battlefield, it's a 70 euro expansion pack of something that people on PC have been modding for free for years.

But I will give it that, it's a very beautiful looking star wars mod with an incredible attention to detail, I played the beta eariler just to walk around and look at things and admire them.

UnwanteDreamz3119d ago

@Christian Hour

Pandering to people like you wont get them the sales they are looking for. They want to get their already large BF playerbase to buy this.

They went with the majority and I bet this sells better then Battlefront 2 because of it.

Rachel_Alucard3119d ago (Edited 3119d ago )

@Unwanted

Well I can see from this view point that you must like every game trying to become the same thing. Problem is that the playerbase that they are pandering to arent consistent like the actual battlefront players or any players for that matter. Based on history the order is, game alienates old fans, old fans don't buy it, new fans get bored of it quickly, playerbase drops to low numbers till a sequel comes out. The old fans are the people that got the new fans interested in the game never forget.

TKCMuzzer3119d ago

People live in the past. Times change, they are trying to attract a wider audience not hit a niche market. This comes with sacrifices, the game has to be accessible, easy to team up with.
It was a heap of fun last night, yes there are loads of noobs but it's still fun and a laugh with friends and thats how it should be.
They have to appeal to as many as possible to get the most back, the Star Wars franchise won't have come cheap and they have to get a good return on it, it's a business at the end of the day. The way to do that is to appeal to many and not panda to the few.

ZaWarudo3120d ago

I really dislike the beta. No classes, weapon pick ups, item pick ups, vehicle pick ups, jedi pick ups... It's f****** awful.
The whole field pick up thing is a terrible idea.

The only good things i can say are aesthetic related. It looks gorgeous and the sparks/smoke effects are very authentic. The 60fps is very sweet as well.

Unfortunately, the game is a huge disappointment imo. It feels so shallow.

TKCMuzzer3119d ago

I disagree, I think it makes a refreshing change not to get ass whipped because some lone clown has been sitting on a hill getting kills to get ridiculous kill streaks whilst failing to contribute to the objective. But maybe that's the issue many have, it doesn't panda to their game style. To me it's just good fun and to be honest, that should always be a key ingredient in gaming.

Rachel_Alucard3119d ago (Edited 3119d ago )

The problem is since there are no classes it means everyone is doing the same thing in terms of playstyle.

In battlefield you dont have to rush to the objective and arm it if you don't want to, because you can choose between giving ammo, medkits, using vehicles, spotting targets for teammates, using the MAV, setting up defenses, etc.

In Battlefront you're forced to play the same as everyone due to the lack of choice in playstyles. There are no real differences between each players loadout because all the rifles are the same, there are no support items outside of powerups, vehicles are locked behind powerups, really everything about the game just feels like CoD on a big map. The lone wolfing gameplay promotes this fact and it gets repetitive doing the same motions over and over again. Powerups are just killstreaks without the work being put in for it.

I'm not telling them to make it like the way people want, I'm telling them to just make a better game. The design choices are nonsensical and I can tell the devs have no idea how to make a decent game outside of aesthetics, because making it look nice is much easier than making it actually good. Authenticity and looking good are more important to people than actually being good it seems from most of the people praising the game.

Halo2ODST23118d ago

This token system just ruins the game for me, while I haven't played any of the previous Battlefronts before, it just gets boring after a few hours, it lacks immersion - you can't even get in vehicle or aircraft - you pick up some random floating thing then press bumpers = spawn in a AT ST or Fighter- i mean, that completely tears away any immersion, what happened to basic logic of physically getting into the fighter or at st, do DICE really think people are that lazy to get into things themselves that spawning people into the vehicles is appropriate, Also you can't even pick up weapons, when you kill a foe & go to their body, if they have a different weapon there is no BUTTON to pick it up ????? what sort of ANARCHY is this, being unable to get into vehicles or even pick up weapons is blatantly unaccpetable, also where the f**** is my secondary weapon?? when i pressed Y or any of the other buttons, no other weapon would pop up, I know about te Burn card system is there, but is that seriously how Grenades, secondary weapons & jetpacks are gonna be operate ? also, the consoles feel empty, so many of the main buttons are under used,

LastcenuryRob3119d ago

Another EA published game that won't come close to being fully optimized for the consoles. Money first, quality second. that's the EA way.

I thought that was kind of obvious they were incorporating mods to piece this game together. Maybe not, but that's made me worried about one thing:

They also planned on adding the modded ending to KOTOR 2 but were legally blocked from doing so, even after they advertised that to help sell preorders for the game on Switch. Could the same happen with this? Any opponents have 3 weeks to bring down the hammer.
