In the end, the people that are criticizing Quiet are the ones that are being sexist. Kojima always treated each of his characters the same way regardless of genre.

I think the skin breathing justification is dumb as an excuse.

It would have been better to go with something like this: "She's a sniper and wanted to remain hidden but not having camouflage that matches the the color of sand she takes off her clothes because her skin color is a closer match."

That large orifice has many openings through which to draw breath, meaning a larger supply of air. A smaller orifice not only has fewer such openings in the cloth, but it will also, likely, be closer to the cloth, meaning less clear paths to the air.

Consider: it's easier to get sand to pass through a gutter than a strainer. Why? Because the sand clogs up the strainer, even if the mesh is somewhat larger than the grains of sand.

Breathing through cloth is no different.

First: The game is absolutely awesome - loving every second of it, a true masterpiece.
Second: All this nudity wasn't neccessary, they really took it too far. But so did Witcher 3 with all them titties everywhere. Developers seem to be trying very hard to make games look like porn sometimes, it's really sad cause it takes away from the story and becomes a distraction.

If the nudity and fanservice makes sense I don't mind it at all. Developers just tend to throw it in for the hell of it and it makes no goddamn sense in the context of their games. It's kind of like the Family Guy Effect.

I didn't really notice a problem like that in the Witcher, to be honest, though...

It's like how nearly every single movie today has to have a romance...A sex scene, if it's PG-13 or higher. Fine by me if it makes sense to have it in there, but sometimes it just to give the movie sex appeal. Even if it's only a split second shot of a scene that has nothing to do with sex, but gives the impression it does, it'll get put in the trailer so people want to see the movie.

Honestly, I was speaking more generally. There's been a single scene that I found kind of...strange...so far in MGSV, but I haven't really found her outfit as outrageous as some people.

I think it's just the fact that again, it's got a very thin contextual explanation, EVEN in a setting littered with super soldiers. People in Metal Gear games are still susceptible to the weather and gunfire and all manner of hazard that could be alleviated by wearing appropriate clothing or equipment.

Well, it's NOT nudity at all, first and foremost, so it's hard to agree with your claim that it's been taken too far.

Second, they're not at all trying to make the games look like porn. If they wanted to do that, they most certainly could, as so many other developers already have done. There are thousands of porn games in the wild, already; not such a difficult thing.

You realize that a lot of these outfits are really impractical compared what she is already wearing.
The clothing would get caught, carry debris and restrict your movement in certain cases.

Another point is that being able to breath through you skin is an advantage that she is taking advantage of. Saying that she can just wear normal cloths and breath using her head is redundant.

Also a more personal matter is a question of have you tried breathing through clothing? It's uncomfortable.

The last thing is, why does it should it matter if you are a little uncomfortable with what she wears? It really doesn't.

Ok, So whether or not this is sexist or not is not an issue to me. I mean it's obviously not the strongest portrayal of women in art ever but does it need to be? It's not Furiosa in mad max for example, but I'm not gonna crucify it for that. It's obviously objectifying women and well, what's new. It's hardly the worse culprit

That said, what does irk me is that it amounts to rather naff characterisation. It just seems lazy and based upon fanservice rather than creating a character for their own sake. The breathing through skin idea seems at least on the surface; contrived and would seem to have been devised after the character had already been designed.

I confess to not knowing the series well and having watched the red band trailer I'd say it seems kinda serious in some ways. That said I watched some demo footage from e3 and there's a lot of silly stuff going on: Strapping things to balloons and such. As such, i cant tell how tonally jarring the titillation is? (and it is exactly that, for better or for worse. Watching the video with the silver outfit reminds of gta strip clubs). I'm curious as to whether or not it undermines gritty drama to have someone running around like that? Maybe it doesn't? I honestly don't know?
