My first game of the series was back on 1998. My favorite was GT 2, in which I had won a competition of high speed. So many memories. Happy to hear that games like these have great sales!

greenmiker3155d ago

I can't wait for the next game on PS4!

bouzebbal3155d ago

GT7 on PS4 will roll over everything else.
I am having a blast with DriveClub i got the platinum yesterday and still playing it. GT7 announcement at TGS would be massive news and a multimillion seller without a doubt

Me-Time3155d ago

I agree. disagree wasn't I was aiming for

remixx1163155d ago

It wouldn't get announced at tgs, that's more for Japanese centric games, games with world wide appeal are more likely to be announced at psx maybe even pgw.

JonnyBigBoss3155d ago

As someone who has a full copy of Forza Motorsport 6, I say good luck to you.

Kingdomcome2473155d ago

I dabbled in the demo, but as I mentioned above, racing games aren't my thing. As a fan of racing games, how good is FM6? In comparison to the other installments, and other racers in general?

gokuking3155d ago (Edited 3155d ago )

From Polyphony's official site and this court case:

Gran Turismo 10.850
Gran Turismo 2 9.370
Gran Turismo 3 A-spec 14.890
Gran Turismo Concept Series 1.560
Gran Turismo 4 “Prologue” 1.400
Gran Turismo 4 11.730
Gran Turismo 5 “Prologue” 5.350
Gran Turismo PSP 4.220
Gran Turismo 5 10.890
Gran Turismo 6 2.370

in the millions.

Everyone involved with the decision to keep the game PS3 exclusive should no longer have any say in the brand. Abysmal numbers for Gran Turismo. I understand back then that they expected Delay Club to be a PS4 launch game (so cross-gen was out of the question), but they could have at least done a Vita companion game. It wouldn't have made up much of the decline, but it would've pushed hardware (especially in Europe) and at least soften the blow a bit so the drop wasn't 8 million units.

Just noticed this now: PSP isn't tagged despite the attached image being Gran Turismo PSP's box art lol

I wouldn't hit the panic button just yet, gran turismo 6 came out right at the cusp of the new consoles so even I passed it up, and forza 5 was a launch title so it didn't really have a large audience to sell to.

Forza 6 and gt7 should paint a better picture for how Sim racers are doing.

Also well said goku bub up

nix3155d ago (Edited 3155d ago )

that word "Delay Club" though... why so much hate towards PS exclusives?

kayoss3155d ago

I have to agree with Gokuking here. I bought GT5 when it came out and even though it did very well in sales i feel like it was incomplete. When they release GT6 i honestly thought it was GT5.5. Not much difference between the two. But that just what i see.

"Everyone involved with the decision to keep the game PS3 exclusive should no longer have any say in the brand. Abysmal numbers for Gran Turismo"

As suppose to rush on PS4 a PS3 game? I mean...you do know GT6 was likely made before they had proper dev kits right? You do know that GT6 is running on GT5's engine right?

Also how do you know those numbers are "abysmal"? The second GT's during a gen don't normally sell as well as the entry one as most GT fans buy it once a gen, also to the point I was making, they took less time making GT6, didn't make a brand new engine and likely made lots of profit from it day 1.

As they are not factoring in years and years of development nor the cost of a new engine.

GT6 if put on PS4 was never coming at launch, for all we know, their team has been making GT7's engine since even before GT6 released as again...they didn't make a new engine for GT6, thus...the team responsible for that was likely working on GT7's engine during GT6's entire development.

Soooooo decline? I mean...when your selling 11 million units of racing game, that sounds like your doing pretty fine lol. especially when your competition's entire franchise combine barely matches up with a single GT release. That sound to me like they are doing pretty fine.

Also consider they dont' need a GT to sell PS4's, PS4's are selling easily with their other studios. They need PS4's to SELL GT! Software makes more money then hardware soooooo

Its why XONE didn't launch with Halo, 360 didn't launch with Halo.

PS3 didn't launch with GT, PS4 didn't launch with GT...

They are a business....they are seeking to make MONEY, not merely sell hardware, games make more money, thus....they want a HUGE install base for when it release.

As to why you've yet to see a GT or Halo the very launch day of either platform. I mean...12 million units in, 25 million units in and not Halo (in terms of a new one) and no GT...

Yet they live lol. Someone clearly wants the system enough and knows those titles are coming. Why should PD and Sony rush a GT to hit a number of a fan that will buy it anyway when it releases? So...lower quality to strike while the irons hot?

Sure bud. Pretty sure Sony and PD have been doing this longer then either of us.

gokuking3155d ago

I never said GT6 should have been a PS4 launch game. I agree that Polyphony wouldn't have been able to get a proper game done in time. I even agree that a port of PS3's GT6 to PS4 wouldn't have happened because Sony believed Drive Club would have been a launch title and GT would eat it. Though, I disagree with the idea that they didn't want to spoil their PS4 debut on a PS3 port. A not insignificant amount of cars in Gran Turismo 5 and 6 are lifted from the PS2 games. As long as Sony and Polyphony were upfront about what GT6 PS3-> PS4 was, I don't think anyone would have been too mad. I actually really expected them to release a Gran Turismo 6 Epilogue on PS4, but I guess Drive Club's delays kept on making them push that back. Now a remaster would probably be too close to GT7.

Gran Turismo 6's sales aren't awful for a video game. They're not particularly great for a big AAA game developed over a few years, but they're not terrible if you view it in a bubble. However, Gran Turismo 6 doesn't exist in a bubble. It's part of a franchise with a bunch of entries and it currently ranks as the worst selling mainline game by 7 million units. Its sales are so low that the only other Gran Turismo releases it's outsold were a paid demo and a series of projects released as auto show tie-ins. Yeah, Sony and Polyphony aren't going to the poor house over GT6 pushing 2.37 million units, but in no way is that good. Yes, the second GT in a generation always experiences a drop, but it's never been an 80% drop like this. There are a bunch of reasons, namely hardware fatigue and the launch of PS4, but that doesn't make GT6's sales any better.

I'm basically saying Gran Turismo 6 shouldn't have come out in 2013. That was too late for PS3, too early for PS4 and obviously not coming out on Vita. Shuhei Yoshida said Polyphony actually played a huge part in designing PS4 and Vita's hardware. They knew these new platforms were coming. If they knew they couldn't get another GT on PS3 out before PS4's launch, they shouldn't have developed it. The writing had been on the wall for PS3 software sales long before GT6 came out. They should have just went to making Gran Turismo 6 a PS4 game from scratch. While the devkits were being finalized, they could have had another team continue with GT5 DLC while another team ports GT5's engine to Vita, so they can use it once again.

If they needed a GT game in 2013, it really should have been on Vita. That was the last time Sony tried pushing the platform and it would've been a strong hardware seller, especially in Europe. Even a GT PSP style, "this is basically a GT4 port with huge chunks missing" version of GT5 would have been hotly anticipated. Instead they released the worst selling mainline Gran Turismo, Vita will never get a Gran Turismo of its own, and PS4 will be at least 3 years old before receiving its first Gran Turismo. That's really bad brand management, which is why I think anyone that encouraged GT6 to stick to PS3 shouldn't be involved with the series anymore.

_-EDMIX-_3155d ago

" I disagree with the idea that they didn't want to spoil their PS4 debut on a PS3 port."

Never said they would. You also never stated you where regarding GT6 as in it being ported to PS4.

"Everyone involved with the decision to keep the game PS3 exclusive should no longer have any say in the brand"

They don't want to over saturate the market with GT products, they are right not to port it and instead focus the team on GT7 and have GT7 Sony's main focus. I' m pretty sure they made a decent profit on GT6 and they'll be ok. A PS4 port was not going to set the world on fire...

Ports generally do lessor in sales, or did you think The Last Of Us coming to PS4 would make it sell like double? lol

http://www.ign.com/articles...

I mean...do we just think new console means more sales of games?

Higher install base really means that bud, its 80 million at the time vs less then that. They made the right call keeping it on PS3 as suppose to seeking a port that likely would have just ate up GT sales (which would over all make them more money).

I won't mind a GT6 port, but I also won't mind if they didn't do one either.

"They're not particularly great for a big AAA game developed over a few years"

So...the whole Forza series huh? Yet they are on what 8 games already? Sure bud.

What is "great" to them is profit, did they make more then what they spent, period. In what damn world is almost 3 million units bad? lol

Again...like I stated, consider they made it faster and on the same engine for less money, they'll be fine.

"I'm basically saying Gran Turismo 6 shouldn't have come out in 2013" Why? Oh so don't make money on a deep install base? So decide to not make profit is what your saying?

I mean...you do know that GT6 not coming out on PS3 doesn't mean the PS4 verion is coming faster right?

Again....GT6 WAS MADE IN GT5'S ENGINE! It was NEVER coming to PS4 as a 100% ground up PS4 game at launch, period. That team is likely STILL working on GT7's engine, thus...it would had been a waste.

To not release GT6, is to make less money to fund GT7, as even GT6 if put on PS4 instead of PS3...STILL NEEDS A NEXT GEN ENGINE!

"PS4 will be at least 3 years old before receiving its first Gran Turismo. That's really bad brand management" Sure bud, the best selling Sim racer of all time is being managed by bad dudes lol. Sure...

Again...you do know that software makes them more money then hardware right?

Magicite3155d ago (Edited 3155d ago )

GT3 was a beast!
GT6 launched in wrong time.

"Everyone involved with the decision to keep the game PS3 exclusive should no longer have any say in the brand."

I'm glad the people who have a say in the matter don't use your method, but if you look at those numbers you'll see big spikes and lower numbers that are still better than many games enjoy even though they are all exclusive.
