Best trailer I've watched in a while

spicelicka3153d ago

YEAAA goddamn gotta say that was one of the best trailers I've ever seen. And it's an actual cutscene!!

The_GameBolt3153d ago

Can't wait to check this out! Love that Nathan Fillion is the featured image as well

spicelicka3153d ago

People ask why MS keeps releasing Halo...THIS IS FOOKIN WHYYY, CUZ IT'S EPIC!!

MeliMel3153d ago

Right up his alley with Firefly and Serenity..both cult classics! This game is shaping up to be just that aswell.

KingKionic 3153d ago (Edited 3153d ago )

This is fantastic.

That ladies and gentlemen is how you do a intro of a game.

Halo hype train just keeps rolling forward. Cant wait till October 27th.

This is how you do a teenage appealing intro of a game.

Great well made put together trailer

However where the hell was Chief, a little bit of focus on him would have been nice. I'm not really digging Locke at all and that's even after watching Nightfall. Edward Buck should have been the one tasked to hunt him down, Fillion is great.

I'm a huge Halo fan but this whole squad based focus thing is putting me off...I just want to play by myself and play as a Spartan against the world. Wouldn't really mind if it was just Locke's part of the story but it's even Chiefs aswell with the Blue team. I wonder if they could ever update the game to turn to the Squads off and just bring them in for the story cutscenes. The game comes off as Halo Reach 2 instead of Halo 5

EDIT

Disagrees for speaking my mind. Of course <sigh>

MrSec843153d ago

Good quality trailer no doubt, but it's a shame it's all CG and not real time to properly flow into the game.
I totally agree with what you said about the squad based stuff.

Halo is best when it's about Chief and Cortana against the forces of the enemy or trying to discover the truth of some mystery.
It's fine when you have those moments of meeting up with Earth's forces because it gave contrast to the more lonely moments of past games.
Hopefully there will be times when Locke or Chief do their own thing, getting separated from the squad and having to complete your objectives before meeting back up, otherwise it's going to feel very samey.

-Foxtrot3153d ago

Well I'm not bothered if it's CG or not I just like to see more Halo. I think the past gameplay videos have shown it's going to good in game anyway.

However yeah I know what you mean. I liked Cortana leading Chief into the battlefield and how she was ironically the more human side of him. The story revolved around Chief, his status of being this legendary soldier and how he has to overcome everything to save the day.

Some levels made you feel alone and because you had no backup you had to tread lightly....especially on Legendary mode.

That's what I liked about the games concept when it came out. Locke vs Chielf...one on one. Chief having to survive by himself since Cortana is now gone....I was hoping he would be looking for her aswell, a way to bring her back as he tries to save the day and run from Locke. Now with the Squads I just won't feel that dread and isolation in some levels. I can just let my team handle it while they keep enemies busy and I pick them off at the back.

MrSec843153d ago

@Foxtrot:

I just think we're at a point where in engine rendering should be quality enough to make the flow of cut scenes into gameplay seamless, it makes for a more smooth transition and is less jarring.
I'll give the game a try when I finally pick up an XB1 at some point (maybe next year), but I can't consider Halo 5 as a core reason to buy an XB1.

I'm going to miss the old banter of Chief and Cortana, that gave Halo 1-4 soul, the constant interactions between the squad and locke don't seem as good.
Yeah the whole war between Locke and Chief would have been a better dynamic, it seems like the game's gone from being a serious, tense experience to a party with pals.
I guess that may work for the dudebro crowd, but for someone like me that was there playing Halo 1 from the beginning on the OG Xbox it's killed the franchise's appeal for me.

I'm sure I'll get negged by the rampant over the top and touchy crowd that seems to be swarming any Xbox article, but I don't care, I'm entitled to have my opinion, same goes for you.

pandehz3153d ago (Edited 3153d ago )

''Halo is best when it's about Chief and Cortana against the forces of the enemy or trying to discover the truth of some mystery.''

I disagree. That was Halo 1,2,3 4,

This is a different game. Why do ppl want the same experience beats me. Their companion story has been told. I want something new and this looks damn fine.

Chief is there but let it be told before you go criticizing. Give ppl a chance to tell a story. If you want the same game go play all of em again.

4Sh0w3153d ago (Edited 3153d ago )

@pandehz, Well said.

I really like 343's direction, I mean I suppose could have told another great story all from Chiefs perspective but I'm glad they are branching out with this format, even in more depth than the Arbiter role in the past. I like the choice to dive much deeper into Halo's lore from another fully developed plot perspective. Halo4's story was very well done and Halo5 is much bigger than Halo4 so I'm guessing that signals 343 are really exploring many of the background nuances that make Halo's universe so interesting.

You can't please everybody though, certain folks are always going to be negative no matter what= I personally just don't take those always negative folks seriously. Remember the community asked for change even then you can't make every single Halo fan happy when they do make changes but some are predisposed to find fault with whatever change or bash them if they don't change even before they have tried the product to make a informed opinion on the merits of said changes...but its all good, to each their own, that's my opinion. Either way nothing can spoil my hype after this trailer, I'm a huge Halo fan and I've watched the trailer 5, 6 times now and every time it brings a smile to my face. The campaign is set to improve on the greatness of Halo4 in every way and the Beta really already confirmed the multiplayer is back to form for me.

I hope Microsoft has this trailer on all the big tv channels and every game site....it really will get a lot of Halo fans and a lot of unbiased gamers looking for a good story driven sci-fi shooter very excited.

SonofGod3153d ago Show
MrSec843153d ago (Edited 3153d ago )

@Sonof: No those are not real time, they're pre-rendered, you can tell because there's absolutely no shimmer and the difference between gameplay and that is night and day, not the case for Uncharted 4.
When Halo 5 was having issues running solidly at 720p 60FPS, with visuals barely any better than Halo 4 you know it's rubbish when people claim such ridiculous things like the above trailer being real time.

Uncharted 4 blows Halo 5 gameplay out of the water.
The reflections are way too good, the scale is way beyond gameplay, you only have to compare E3 to that to see what I'm saying is true.

Poor try kid.

Edit:
OH BTW here's the link to Neogaf:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

Stinkles says this:
Rendered with in game assets as basis. Basically CG as far as this conversation is concerned but the majority of cinematics will be in engine.

That trailer isn't real time, confirmed by 343.

Paytaa3153d ago

Pretty sure they're keeping Chief's story on the DL so it isn't spoiled. Everyone knows who the Master Chief is. 343 needs to introduce us to Agent Locke so by putting him as the marketing headline gets their point across. I'm glad I don't know much about Chief's side because that's where the mystery is supposed to lie if you've listened to Hunt The Truth and what not. Give it a chance. It's shaping up to be the best Halo yet and that coming out of my own mouth is as bold as it gets.

-Foxtrot3153d ago (Edited 3153d ago )

"343 needs to introduce us to Agent Locke"

They've literally talked about him non stop since the the proper "Guardians" reveal and even had a series around his character.

" Give it a chance "

I will give it a chance I'm just not going to blindly overhype it. I learnt from lessons from past Halo games, especially Halo 4 when it came to the multiplayer. Go into it nice and slow and you'll be better off.

@slate91

How can you have negative comments about the Master Bloody Chief...he's one of the best characters created.

slate913153d ago (Edited 3153d ago )

Paytaa, if they were to show the same things with the Chief, then the same people would be saying "Oh, more of the rambo-space cowboy?" "More of the same" and so on.
There will be negative comments no matter how epic or well made something is unfortunately.

Paytaa3153d ago

@-Foxtrot Well when Master Chief who has been established in 4 Halo games and countless novels and comics, it would make sense to really push Locke as he is the 'new guy' and I wouldn't want him getting the same treatment as Lasky or Sarah Palmer where they barely got any game time though being interesting characters.
I'm not saying blindly over hype Halo 5 but if you played the beta you probably know that the game is really solid even being a year from launch. I totally understand the skepticism by Halo 4's MP because I was the same way at first but it later grew on me but Halo 5 is a completely different beast. It feels like what Halo 2 would've been if it was made in 2015 with the competitive edge in mind. I've been playing Halo since 2001 and I adore Halo 1-3 more than any game ever made but when I say Halo 5 has serious potential to equal or even top them, I'm not just saying that.

Erik73573153d ago

Make no mistake... the Chief will be the star of the show. Them graphics are sexy as heck too.

-Foxtrot3153d ago

Hopefully since Locke is pretty bland. They couldn't even make him interesting in the series. Did you see it? Seriously if they had someone else in the lead the series would have been much better off.

Either Buck or the Arbiter should have been written around (somehow, up to writers) to hunt down Chief.

PuppetMaster2513153d ago (Edited 3153d ago )

Quite frankly, i got lonely sometimes when i was wandering in hostile territory with occasional interjections from Cortana in Halo 4. i feel a sort of kinship with fellow marines or spartans, and i think the squad system is a breath of fresh air. And as for focusing on the new characters, i think it is a good tactic because it increases the Masterchief's inscrutability and portrays him as something of a rogue hero. We'd get sick of the Chief pretty soon if we always focused on him.
343 can do no wrong.
anyway, each to their own!
(BTW, i thouroughly enjoyed Halo 4)

-Foxtrot3153d ago (Edited 3153d ago )

Yeah but you are forcing a feature/playstyle on people who don't like that sort of thing.

If you felt lonely you could always go online or have friends come over to play along with you with it's drop in and out co-op. While single player people could enjoy the story alone and isolated. You know like it's always been which worked since it catered to both audiences

Now they are doing squads and the fact they have no OPTION to turn it off so the AIs are hidden it's going to force a percentage of people to play the game in a certain playstyle they've set up.

Options would have been nice. Everyone could find something that suits them.

"We'd get sick of the Chief pretty soon if we always focused on him"

It's not like we get a main Halo game all the time.

Paytaa3153d ago (Edited 3153d ago )

@Foxtrot Well technically no one knows if there is ever a scenario or multiple scenarios in the game where as Chief you are on your own for a little while. Judging by the vague story we're getting on the game it isn't out of the ballpark to assume that could happen. But I do know where you're coming from. Levels like 343 Guilty Spark in Halo 1 still stick to me to this day because no Halo since captured the eeriness and sense of being alone such as that level. I personally was kind of scared back then playing it. But who knows, I'm open to a new take on the campaign. I love the Halo series enough to play it anyway the developer intended but at the same time respect those who aren't too keen on the changes. To each his own.

Bigpappy3153d ago

I didn't follow too much of the background series they have on the app. I like to get my info in-game. Love to be surprised. Don't want to know too much before I play. May be after.

@-Foxtrot
"Disagrees for speaking my mind. Of course <sigh>"

there's more to it than that. i think it's safe to say you are a very hard person to please and when you add anything to do with xbox in the mix i guess this is likely the most positive response to expect. the funny thing is even when you do start to say something on the bright side you just can't help yourself to leave little captions 'but' to it.

regardless this game is going to be epic judging by the actual gameplay (this trailer didn't seem to have any) of the multiplayer alone. it's one of the few games where the online will be busy for months and the campaign will actually have some merit to it and not some afterthought.

jb2273153d ago

We have seen that e3 campaign footage, around 5 minutes worth. It looked cool, lot of particle effects and the feeling of a warzone but the huge maps made it feel a bit barren for my tastes, not to mention the fact that there was little in the way of combat during it. I want to see some more campaign footage personally that shows the range of the game, wouldn't want it to be a loosely strung together campaign that just highlights the big open maps specifically made for Warzone. There's a healthy medium between corridors and open areas that make campaigns for me.

Christopher3153d ago

*** i think it's safe to say you are a very hard person to please***

I see nothing wrong with being hard to please. Much better than the droves of people who are easily pleased by anything with one thing or another just because of the company attached to a title.

It's a fine CG trailer, but wouldn't say best and wouldn't say it did anything to get me more interested in the game. But, it's not aimed at me, it's aimed at Halo fans who already love the franchise.

DLConspiracy3153d ago

I kind of feel like you are jumping to consulsions before actually playing it. Clearly MC has a LOT to do with Halo 5. Regardless of assumptions. The trailer looked bad a**. Plus, I look forward to playing Co op online with my friends. Really excited for it.

OpieWinston3153d ago

Mission 1 Team Osiris
Mission 2 Blue Team

This is for Mission 1 not 2. And this takes place RIGHT after Halo 4 Spartan Ops. When Halsey was kidnapped by Jul.

3153d ago
Yetter3153d ago

Its the opening of the game, and you clearly start as Agent Locke and his squad.

And the disagrees are because you have a reputation around here and you know it

Thunder_G0d_Bane3153d ago

So you want to play the same old campaign as nearly every halo game? It was getting old and boring. I didn't even play halo 4 after Reach I felt I was pretty much done with halo cause it wasn't changing its formula.

Now after playing the halo 5 beta I'm soooo stoked cause it made all the changes it needed and the campaign looks so damn intriguing I really can't wait to play it.

Not to mention the addition of Warzone is everyone I hoped halo would have for multiplayer.

I'm sorry you want things to stay the same but you can always play the old halo games on MCC right? Single player and lonely by yourself.

I'll enjoy this squad co op :)

PhucSeeker3153d ago (Edited 3153d ago )

Disagree button is not a dislike button. People doesn't agree with what you said so they hit the DISAGREE button. It doesn't mean that they don't respect your opinion or anything.

OT : I'm a sucker for Ghost Recon and SW republic commando. So Halo 5 hits me on all the right spots, except for couch co-op.

dmeador3153d ago

Why are you complaining people are disagreeing with you? That is how disagrees work. They are disagreeing with your opinion.

Chanogram3153d ago

You do realize that speaking your mind (opinions) is EXACTLY what the agree and disagree buttons are for?

Just because someone doesn't agree with your opinion doesnt mean you have to get bent out of shape.

Now if you had just listed a bunch of facts with no opinion, then you'd have a case to be irritated. If agrees/disagrees are that important to you, N4G is probably not the healthiest place for you.

3153d ago
MeliMel3153d ago

Not for nothing but you've disagreed plenty for others speaking thier minds aswell. It works both ways.

Master Chief Became More Than A Machine In 343's Halo

In Halo 4, 5, and Infinite, Master Chief became a more nuanced, human character.

In spite of the Halo series’ struggles, 343 deserves praise for adding nuance and characterisation to the ever-beating heart of Halo - The Master Chief. Playing through Infinite, it's abundantly clear that the events of the current and previous trilogies have irrevocably changed the iconic hero. He’s no longer the ‘blank slate’ that was previously presented by Bungie. He’s a fatigued, damaged and fallible protagonist, and one who is meandering through currents of grief, while reveling in his newfound agency. Giving the Chief a compelling and meaningful voice was no small feat, and 343 should be proud of that victory.

kingnick401d ago

This article completely misses part of the appeal of the original iteration of character in the original game trilogy. It was the Chief and Cortana vs an entire alien collective. The blank slate Bungie displayed in their games was genius, he was an mysterious hero a wide audience could identify with because he wasn't as clearly defined as most characters.

The books added a lot of lore and backstory but most Halo players just want a fun game with exposition that doesn't get in the way of gameplay, it's why the Cortana level in Halo 3 was derided.

Not every character has to be a damaged soyboy, a soldier has to suck it up and do his duty.

BandarHub401d ago

A lot of people give the 343 version of Master Chief a lot of slack.
But Fundamentally he is still the same character, he just has a couple more dialogues. He has not changed in terms of attitude.
"Not every character has to be a damaged soyboy, a soldier has to suck it up and do his duty."
And that's what he has done at the end of the day, he did his duty. Watch his partner die, and was ready to destroy the weapon in Halo infinite....he is still the same soilder that everyone remembers

Halo Infintes one was a nice balance between both.

slate91401d ago

Given the nature of backwards compatibility on new systems, this is a great sale in case you missed out on some gems from last gen.

Mandingo2020642d ago

Most of the games on Xbox are on game pass. The Switch games in this sale are trash c'mon farming simulator that's laughable. The PS4 games should be cheaper. I can't wait for the GameStop going out of business liquidation sale.

neutralgamer1992642d ago

Seriously man I don't get the hate on GS and I guess you want even less options and give more control to the publishers

And you want thousands of people to lose their jobs because you don't like a company. One thing I have noticed is how most who hate on GS haven't shopped at the actual stores in years. Many who hate on GS have also done so listening to others negative stories or experiences. People on YT want clicks and hating on GS is the cool thing

SurgicalMenace641d ago

It's not people's hate that would lose people's jobs, it's the shady business practices of the company. So what you're saying is that because people work there individuals should just support what they don't want to? Sound advice; Hitler too had supporters, employees, and advocates but people go around hating him too. They only hate because of other people's bad stories or experiences; they only spoke bad about him because they wanted attention. It's been decades; lets give his way another go. With your logic anything could be made to sound good.🤷🏾‍♂️

neutralgamer1992641d ago

SurgicalMenace

Seriously you used Hitler as an example to say company has shady practices

You don't have to shop at GS there are many other retailers. I shop there and vast majority of my experiences have been positive and most of the employees are super nice

Just having some fun, bro.🤣🤣

And none of those game you speak of you actually own as they are digital not physical & would cost more than $20 as the subscription costs more than that.

Mandingo2020641d ago (Edited 641d ago )

You know you can get game pass ultimate codes for the low on cdkeys or g2a right? You don't need to have a subscription 😂. GS is trash and I'd rather support the mom and pop game store here instead.

BlackTar187641d ago

Why are you people so full of hate? GameStop gives people jobs and provides a physical appearance to see things in the flesh and not just some soulless online experience.

Mandingo2020641d ago

You can get physical at mom and pop game stores plus you can get it online. GS is trash

neutralgamer1992641d ago

Because Mom and Pop shops cost two to three times more for the same product Angie the answer

BlackTar187641d ago (Edited 641d ago )

Mom and pop stores cost more and have even harder time competing against the internet. Also lie to me and tell you have a couple mom and pop stores near you selling games then lie and tell me you shop there.

IanTH642d ago

These sales, while potentially great, really struggle to be valuable given you can't easily parse what games are in stock. You can't just say "only show what is online & what are in my nearby stores". Probably 60-75% of these games in these massive lists are out of stock for shipping, and out of stock locally. It makes it a chore to find anything you'd want, much less 4 of them, much less enough if you wanted to get to a free shipping tier. It's a bummer.
