Metal Gear Solid 5 PS4 vs Xbox One Graphics Comparison

This is it. A complete lowdown on the differences between the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. Resolution, effects, the whole nine yards.

Note that since we completed this video, we've looked into the motion blur situation in a little more depth - it does seem that Xbox One uses lower precision masks for this effect though it's very barely noticeable in gameplay.

Not much of a difference. Except in my opinion I'd recommend using your hard earned money to buy the better console version on all aspects to know that you're getting truly the best experience possible in everything.

I cannot wait to start it up! I've been eager to play a new installment since MGS4. Ground zeroes was too much of a tease for me lol

And for people who will defend against what I stated:

- It's the equivalent of two people ordering a steak for the same price, one gets a prime cut and the other get a choice cut.
Not everyone can tell the difference unless someone came and told you. Yeah you're both eating steak (like how both people play MGSV), but does it make it right to pay the same price for a less quality steak? Even if the quality differs by a little?

Ps4 looks sharper, at least they are both playable and should be enjoyed. Great game

Gazondaily3150d ago

Mate it's not as simple as that. There are other factors as well that boil down to preference. I mean, the differences are minute. You may also for e.g, prefer the Xbox controller, or play with your mates on that console, prefer achievements etc.

For me, I reckon I'll get this on PS4. About to buy it today but work is hectic. I prefer trophies and that's pretty much the biggest reason for me picking it on PS4. But if the MP is good, then I'll pick the X1 version.

Slightly torn between the choices here.

joab7773150d ago

No you're not. While I agree that there are other factors for sure, you will get if for the PS4, unless all your friends get it for xbone. I have both and have friends on both, but why would I not get it on PS4?

Gazondaily3150d ago (Edited 3150d ago )

No I'm not what?

"I have both and have friends on both, but why would I not get it on PS4?"

Because of other preferences just like how I mentioned and how you agreed? I don't get what you're saying mate. More of my mates are on X1.

Gwynbleidd3150d ago

Thank you!

Both games look pretty much the same. Minute differences. On what platform you game depends on your prefence. What are some ppps worth compared to your favourite controller?
If you like a specific console environment better, would you trade off features for marginal graphical differences?

I get it, if the game would look like s**t on one platform, that you would get the significantly better looking version. I mean really huge differnces like different graphic assets.
But so far this gen IMO there are no multiplat titles that would fall into that category.

I don't get this "console war"! People chill out and game on the platform you like cause the multiplat games differences don't justify platform specific sacrifices.

"But if the MP is good, then I'll pick the X1 version."

This is baffling me a little bit. Alot of people predict this game to sell like 3:1 when comparing the PS4 and Xbox One versions. You would literally be isolating yourself to a smaller community by opting to purchase this on an Xbox One (for MP or MGO). Not to mention this game will be exclusive in Japan and EU is Sony land. Unless you're planning on playing with Brazilians or Americans more than people closer to you, this just isn't logical at all.

Gazondaily3149d ago

@Muerte

What? You're making it sound like MGS online on Xbox One will be a barren wasteland. My mates are on Xbox so of course my primary concern is playing with them.

"Unless you're planning on playing with Brazilians or Americans more than people closer to you, this just isn't logical at all."

I think you're severely underestimating how many Europeans own am Xbox for me to enjoy MGS online. We are just 4-5 mates not hundreds of thousands.

Muerte24943149d ago (Edited 3149d ago )

Sorry to do this....

"I prefer trophies and that's pretty much the biggest reason for me picking it on PS4."

"My mates are on Xbox so of course my primary concern is playing with them."

It looks like you're shifting gears a bit. Is your biggest reason trophies for PS4 or playing with your "mates" on XB1?

Also I never said that people didn't own Xbox Ones in the EU, but that you would be constricting yourself to a smaller community for MP. You said and I quote: But if the MP is good, then I'll pick the X1 version. You didn't say anything about friends in your previous post. I'm just saying if MP (not friends) is your reasoning for picking up MGSV for X1, it would makes more sense to get it on PS4 because it would have a much larger online community.

Metal Gears Solid Ground Zero sold 3x more on PS4 than Xbox One

"It looks like you're shifting gears a bit. Is your biggest reason trophies for PS4 or playing with your "mates" on XB1?"

There's no gear shifting? Like I said,

"I prefer trophies and that's pretty much the biggest reason for me picking it on PS4. "

Trophies are my BIGGEST reason for picking this on PS4.

But if the online turns out to be a gem then Ive shot myself in the foot because most of my mates will be playing this on Xbox One and I won't be able to join them.

I don't know why my little dilemma is so hard to understand.

MattE3150d ago

You are correct.. I prefer a more stable framerate and better textures so have got on xb1

strickers3149d ago

According to Digital Foundry, you've made an error.

MattE3149d ago

So xb1 doesn't have an advantage with framerate?

I don't need DF to tell me anything.. Can clearly see softer textures on ps4 version?

Muerte24943150d ago

I love my PS4 but to be fair the better version would be to play this game on PC @ 4K or 2K. Since I'm a trophy nutt, I'm going to be picking this one up on consoles. But if you really want to play this game at it's best and you have a decent PC gaming, stronger than current gen consoles, the PC is the way to go. I might end up buying it for both.

Kiwi663149d ago

I'm baffled as to why you'd get it on ps4 when by your own words the pc version is the best yet you still have a choice but you don't like the fact that others also have a choice of which console version they prefer for whatever reason, for me if my sons or friends were to get it on xb1 then thats the one i'd get as that would be my choice or will that baffle you also

raWfodog3149d ago

@ MrKrispy

Why are you 'baffled' that he's getting it on PS4? He already said that its cause he's a 'trophy nutt'. Mystery solved :)

Kiwi663149d ago

So there isn't much difference between the console versions and you're telling people to get the version that you prefer and not let them decide for themselves on which version to get based on their preferences

Now we'll have to see how much the Master Collection will add to those numbers.

Number1TailzFan165d ago

Too bad it was a lazy release. They could've updated the visuals and everything. Missed opportunity.

Stanjara165d ago

...and yet, they couldn't give more respect and effort into the collection.
What a terrible company.

Are they counting every game?

Edit: they did

Yes, these are total lifetime sales of the entire series.

Yea I don’t get why they’re allowing old reviews to be posted here. Someone did one on Soul Reaver and I got so excited thinking there was some stealth release of an HD Remaster, but no… it’s just someone who had a slow day posted an old review…

Cacabunga181d ago

I liked the game but for me it felt somehow like a military simulator rather than a proper MGS.. i got bored of that

micdagoat19181d ago

I do wish they would remaster all the soul reavers

micdagoat19181d ago

it was done this morning though

goldwyncq181d ago

The author was in a coma for 9 years and didn't get to play the game when it released.

Chocoburger181d ago

This review arrived just in time for launch. Perfect timing!

RupeeHoarder181d ago

Amazing how bad this game looks already. We keep acting like this gen doesn't feel like an update but I think we're starting to see it.

YourMommySpoils181d ago

Looks better than Starfield, Cyberpunk and most recent games out. Still fine.

RupeeHoarder181d ago

It most certainly does not lol.

andy85181d ago

Have you player Cyberpunk since the first day? It's absolutely stunning now

1nsomniac181d ago

One of the worst games ever made. Absolute overhyped trash!

Snowb420181d ago

The gameplay was great. It was the tacked on open world and repetitive missions that messed the game up.

Shane Kim181d ago

The game started really strong in that hospital, but after a couple of hours I wondered if it was even an mgs game I was playing.

KyRo180d ago

The hospital section was the only bit that felt like a MGS game.

MGS4 was the ending for me. I totally ignore the fact 5 exists. It didn't need to exist tbh
