Is the Dualshock 4 the Best Control Pad ever made?

PS4Home: "After all, there’s nothing else around the comes close to the Dualshock 4."

Eonjay3164d ago

Don't know, but it is the best PlayStation pad by far.

RocketScienceLvlStuf3164d ago (Edited 3164d ago )

I think it is and most journalists and gaming websites thought so too on the run up to the consoles release.

Majority thought it was better than the competitions

yippiechicken3164d ago

Love the feel of the DS4 but that battery life is just stupid.

bouzebbal3164d ago

It's pretty good apart from the ridiculous battery life.
One of my favorite controllers is SEGA Saturn's and Gamecube.

Genuine-User3164d ago (Edited 3164d ago )

Ergonomically it is the best controller I have ever used. Feature wise, it's the best out there. But it lacks the superb trigger-rumble found on the Xbox One controller.

Bansai3164d ago (Edited 3164d ago )

In my opinion it's really not. At least not in comparison with controllers from Xbox or Gamecube, hell, even Wii U Pro controller is miles better. Yes, I held all of them, I currently own wii u and PS4, however I owned 360/XO and GC.

DS4 in my opinion:

Pros:
very good ergonomy
built in battery (?)
trackpad is actually useful in some games

Cons:
cheap materials (the rubber on sticks wearies fast, triggers are prone to breaking)
useless speaker
pointless led light
low battery life

XBLSkull3164d ago

X1>X360>Xbox S>DS4

The DS4 is much, much improved over the DS3, but the Xbox controllers still feel much better in the hands. Not a fan of the touchpad/speaker/lightbar/tilt gimmicks though. Lightbar serves a purpose but should be able to be turned off for the people who don't own the camera. All this extra stuff just drains the battery and I have yet to see a game use them to any real advantage.

morganfell3164d ago

DS4 all the way. I agree the light bar should be set to turn off completely but do some people really want to argue about console features that can't be disconnected...until they are?

DeadlyOreo3164d ago

Just lol @ XBLSkull

Because no one saw that comment coming.

NukaCola3164d ago

@trollskull

I always thought that the Controller S was better than the 360's. But I was 16 when that came out and you weren't born, so I wonder if you even remember that.

Oh and it goes
PS4>GameCube>XboxS>3 60>PS2>DreamCast

Kiwi663164d ago

Yet after release came the realization that it had flaws so it wasn't quite perfect but its getting better

cd13164d ago

I always liked the N64 pad, comfy too...weirdly.

Back on subject - DS4 is great imo. The headphone jack, speaker and touch pad have been well thought out and work well.

I still prefer the internal rechargeable battery over AAs even though the battery life could have been improved. This isnt a big deal - buy another pad or a longer USB cable if funds are tight.

I cant says it the best pad ever because each to their own but it gets my vote.

Qoute:" But it lacks the superb trigger-rumble found on the Xbox One controller."

Glad to hear it because I HATE vibrator on any joystick!
It is more irritating to me than any teacher scratching her chalk across my blackboard. I always turn the off the vibrator option, unless it alerts you to the secret spot that her treasure is hidden at. Like some of the final FANTASY STYLE games did.

I HATE vibrators on my joystick!

ninsigma3163d ago (Edited 3163d ago )

@Bansai

I own the wii u pro controller and in now way, shape or form is that controller better than the DS4. It feels extremely cheap and is super uncomfortable. DS4 feels way more premium than the others a part for the thumbs tick grips which you mention. I haven't had one problem with the grip but seems a lot of people did so I won't ignore that issue.

Ergonomically DS4 better then DS3 but battery wise worst. Plain horrible

S2Killinit3164d ago

try adjusting the lighbar. Mine controllers work pretty good and I haven't even lowered it to the lowest setting. (kind of like the light).

Mystogan3164d ago

Best Sony controller? Definitely.
Best Controller overall? lol nope.
They should try beating the Xbox 360 controller first.

Only Sony fanboys would try to argue that the PS4 controller is the best controller ever.

GrubsterBeater3164d ago

And only XBox fanboys would try to argue that the XBox One controller is the best ever.

What a hypocrite you are.

DeadlyOreo3164d ago

No point arguing with these Microsoft fan boys, they take their own opinions as facts and you can't reason with them.

On topic I love the DS4, fantastic controller. The only downside is the battery duration. Also, I'm not sure the fixed it but the thumb sticks wore down a little fast on my launch controller.

Mystogan3164d ago

Guys with 3 bubbles are calling me a Fanboy.

Pro gamers use Xbox controllers.
PC gamers use Xbox controllers.
Every third party manufactured controller looks like an Xbox Controller knock-off.
If Playstation controllers were better the majority would be using playstation controllers.

Spotie3164d ago

C'mon, Mystogan. That atrocious Dpad forever eliminates the 360's controller from contention. I'd rather use the Duke any day over the 360 pad.

Outside_ofthe_Box3164d ago (Edited 3164d ago )

***"If Playstation controllers were better the majority would be using playstation controllers"***

Does this logic apply to which console is better?

Just asking.

It's all preference at the of the day. You can state reasons why you like one better than the other, but it doesn't make it fact and someone having a different preference than you doesn't make 'em a fanboy.

LuckyDuck123163d ago

@Myst

XB controllers used by Pro and PC gamers is mostly because of 3rd party publishers deals with MS like CoD and what OS runs on gaming PCs? Oh yeah, MS Windows.. Of course it supports XB controllers

The_BlackHeart__3163d ago (Edited 3163d ago )

@Mystogan: Could you please read what you type before hitting "reply"?

Here is your contribution to the discussion: "If Playstation controllers were better the majority would be using playstation controllers"

And yet the PS3 beat the 360 and the PS4 is 2:1 over the XB1. Use logic, please.

ChickenOfTheCaveMan3163d ago

"Guys with 3 bubbles are calling me a Fanboy.

Sure, and Aqua's Barbie Girls is one of the best selling singles ever, therefore one of the best song ever. Don't mix numbers and in that case best compatibility with being the best.

It's all about preference on that one, I know I haven't touch a XBOX pad since that fat awkward original XBOX controller but I haven't been deceived from a PS controller. I thought I would hate the DS4, but it's the biggest leap in improvement from a gen to another in the PS history, it's awesome.

miyamoto3164d ago

I agree. I basically use it for my PS3, Macbook, and Android devices.

So comfortable and just right perfect.

The Sega Genesis and Sega Saturn 6 button controllers are one of the best also esp the 3D controller.

DualShock are also goodnwhen my hands were little.

The Xbox 360 is the worst. It made my middle fingers calous.

_-EDMIX-_3164d ago

@Myst- "If Playstation controllers were better the majority would be using playstation controllers"

Dat logic doe. LMFAO!

The MOST do use PS controllers, or did you forget more PS3's sold last gen, more PS2's sold the gen before that, more PS1's sold the gen before that.....PS4 is outselling both Wii U and XONE.

Soooooo it likely is the most used controller type of all time. It hasn't changed much in the last 20 years or so lol

3-4-53164d ago

* It's not the best controller, the XB1 & Wii U Pro Controller are actually more comfortable to hold but it is the first good PS controller.

The old ones had bad floaty sticks and the D4 finally fixed that.

1.) XB1
2.) Xbox 360
3.) Gamecube
4.) SNES
5.) PS4/DS4
6.) Sega Genesis 6 button
7.) N64

Sparta073164d ago

You got your list all wrong....
Number 5 should be number and number one should be 5... As far as comfort, you can't beat ds4

Yahdaree3164d ago

I'm not really qualified to make the call but it's the best controller I have ever used. By far.

BoriboyShoGUN3163d ago

XBLSkull you can't be serious??? The DS4 is better than the 360 and original Xbox controllers by far!! I personally can't compare the XboxOne controller because I don't own one, but the DS4 is the best controller i've ever used easily!!!!!

PistolsAtDawn3163d ago (Edited 3163d ago )

It's EASILY the best PS controller ever made, best all around ever...no, I wouldn't go that far at all

The triggers are still squishy, the touchpad could be neat...but it's never really utilized, the speaker is gimmicky and a waste of battery life, the thumbsticks are better but wear too quickly and the Battery life is atrocious. ...however the best new aspect is the weight really, it has a better balanced weight.

For me it's X1>360>DS4 ..although from what I hear the X1 Elite controller may slide into #1 comfortably

alabtrosMyster3163d ago

Of the modern dual stick controllers it's certainly the best one, given that its only failure is the battery life (the 360 pad was great, however it had a really poor D-pad that takes it out of the running as ergonomics should be top notch for all buttons, not just 1 use scenario).

The XB1 controller is just awkward to hold in your hands, I can't quite put my finger on the exact problem (I have not touched one in months to be honest)... if it was my only controller I would learn to live with it, after all I was able to play with the Dreamcast controller back in the days.

I have not played with the Wii U Pro game pad, but I heard great things about it... could not tell...

WellyUK3164d ago

the 360 pad is easily the best game pad IMO, the ds4 though is great.

UnHoly_One3164d ago (Edited 3164d ago )

Gamecube controller was good, but not as "universal" as the 360 controller was.

It took me awhile to get used to it, but I think the XB1 controller does (just barely) beat out the 360 controller for the best ever.

DeadlyOreo3164d ago

Na. Dualshock 4 is better than the Xbox One & 360 controller.

The GameCube controller though, that was pretty great.

Rookie_Monster3164d ago

DeadlyOreo, a post above,
"No point arguing with these Microsoft fan boys, they take their own opinions as facts and you can't reason with them."

Just now,
DeadlyOreo,
"Na. Dualshock 4 is better than the Xbox One & 360 controller."

Oh, the irony.

IN My OWN OPINION, I agreed UnHoly_One, the XB1 controller is the best controller I've ever used with the X360 being a closed Second. That is until the Elite XB1 controller is release that is.

Outside_ofthe_Box3164d ago (Edited 3164d ago )

@Rookie

Maybe he doesn't view UnHoly as a fanboy, but as just a fan?

Just throwing that out there.

UnHoly_One3164d ago

Yeah the thing is, anyone that likes the dual shock stick layout is always going to like it better no matter what. Just like anyone that likes the Xbox layout will like it better.

There is no point in arguing, as neither side is going to change its mind.

S2Killinit3164d ago (Edited 3164d ago )

I like it a LOT. I think the xbone controller is also VERY good. Regardless of going into my personal preference, I'll just suffice in saying that I really enjoy playing with the Dualshock.

I have the black, blue and the RED!, with the red being my favorite color (even though I don't like when the lighbar is blue, it looks like a cop car lol), with the blue as my second favorite.

My gf actually ordered me the RED controller from Japan so I got to have it before it became available exclusively at Gamestop here. The box it came in was pretty nice, I have to say, I liked it a little better than the plastic one's we have here in the States. (although that might have been because the cardboard box was new to me).

LTwriting3164d ago (Edited 3164d ago )

Gimmicky click bait title ensured to start the flames and a poorly written tagline.

Nope.

Hoffmann3164d ago

The great thing is, we don't have to click and read the article since the headline was more or less enough already and we can write about it here on N4G :-)

Hoffmann3164d ago (Edited 3164d ago )

The Playstation pads are just getting better and better, just like the Xbox controllers. Both Sony and Microsoft were and are doing a good job.

Would say Nintendo's best controller ever was the Super Nintendo one.

Hoffmann3164d ago (Edited 3164d ago )

Not my thing..absolutely not. It was good for the 3D Platformers for sure but I remember having red thumbs from playing Killer Instinct Gold. For fighting games it was crap and I bet it was maybe one of the factors why Capcom never released a fighting game for the N64. I might be a bit biased since I play mostly fighting games.

deafdani3164d ago

Well, the SNES controller certainly set the foundation for future controllers to come. Ironically enough, this foundation was followed by the competition, but Nintendo themselves actually neglected it completely for 2 generations in a row (N64 and Gamecube). For Wii, they more or less re-adopted it with the games compatible with the Classic Controller, and now they're back on track with the Wii U.

Gladiator’s Arena review - Games Asylum

Games Asylum: "Even though the Vampire Survivors influenced ‘auto shooter’ genre isn’t long in the tooth, I’m still surprised that it has taken this long for a Roman gladiator-themed rendition to come along – especially with a sequel to Ridley Scott’s 2000 box office hit Gladiator imminent. It’s thematically perfect, with its circular arena in which one man stands alone against hordes of enemies, grabbing loot as they survive one wave to the next."
