typical Hollywood horror movie styled game, it doesn't scare your soul, just your mind for a short of time. It's not as nearly scary as Silent Hills PT.

IGN always does this with these type of games and it always comes off as really disingenuous and I'd bet most of it's acting. Nice try though. I'd purchase day one if it wasn't a fully priced game but I'll get it in a couple of months pre-owened because £43 is too much for a QTE game for me

Walking Dead cost 20-30 dollars. Walking Dead's success came from it's well written story and established franchise success. Walking Dead has been criticized for it's "Illusion of choice," which basically kills replayability. No matter what you did, you got the same ending.

I might even buy this game if it wasn't 60 dollars. But these type of games have become a quick, cheap, and profitable way to have an amateur developer (see supermassive, see Telltale) make a quick buck off of ideas rather than game design. It was cool at first (for 30 dollars), but supporting a game like this with a 60 dollar price tag is just hurting innovation.

Just clarifying that the game does not have 9 endings, but actually hundreds, as stated by the dev since last year. We have 8 characters, all of which can die or survive. The possible combinations alone already secure a larger number of endings than 9.

See, I don't understand what QTEs has to do with the worth of a game. Even without your well-documented history, that alone would be enough to question the honesty of your comment. But couple that... odd... remark with your less than subtle distaste for Sony-related ANYTHING, and, well...

Because QTEs aren't fun. It isn't gameplay, a trained chimp can press a button when it's icon is flashed on the screen. They are even immersion breaking because you stop looking at the environment and just watch for that icon to pop up. I don't care what system they are on but QTEs suck. They are a lazy substitute for real AI and gameplay.

You know what the controller scheme for literally hundreds of FPS looks like? Aim, Shoot, Grenade, Switch Weapon, Reload, Jump, Run, Crouch/Slide, Melee, Zoom. Any time I see that, I'm immediately bored out of my mind because I know the next few hours are going to be just those actions; it feels restrictive and like I've done it a million times before.

Whereas the TellTale games, Life Is Strange, Quantic Dream games, and now Until Dawn are becoming so popular because their QTE and choice-based gameplay, or "lazy substitute" as you put it, allows for contextual choices that lead to a far more diverse array of actions than can be done with a static button layout.

Being a skeptic is one thing, and I highly encourage that...however you need to empathize here with the people who are skeptical of your assessment.

1. It comes off as "concern trolling" where you're feigning interest. This is perpetuated by your comment history. It's unfortunate, but people who do this are often in other articles calling others out for the same thing. I don't follow your comments to really know where you stand here; frankly, I don't care. I only know what I catch in articles I comment on.

2. It comes off as cynical to say that these people are likely acting and pointing out that you're not going to support the developers by buying it pre-owned. That's just douchey to add in there.

Hope that makes sense. Nothing wrong with an opinion, so long as it's genuine. Not saying you're not, but I'm an open minded person and I have a hard time believing you. Of course, you don't need to care what I think and I hope you don't. This post is purely to aid you in your introspection.

Don't listen to junk press, I played it and its almost nothing like what many have claimed it to be. Its very much a game, short but worth the great story and crazy action scenes.

I'm a huge horror fan and I will tell you there are far more horror games on PC. Not to slight the Consoles. I own both the next gen.

I'm picking this up though. Day one. There is another horror slasher game coming out called Sumber Camp. To consoles and PC. Not sure when.

Much like the campy horror movies of the 80's, I don't think it will be psychologically scary, but there will be those jump scares...like the early Resident Evil games. I just enjoy the fact that they seem to be TRULY going for that campy horror feel. I'm sure the game will be rife with memes a plenty.

I love B-Movie horror - I've wanted a game like this for a long time.
The graphics look great, the acting is cheesy in a good way - it looks like a lot of fun.

It'd be cool if there's some kind of hidden/secret chapter that let's you play as the bad guy.

Seriously, I think the last time I was scared in a game was facing that blind dude with claws in resident evil 4 on gamecube back in my high school days, him calmly walking then running at you until your heads chopped off always got my heartbeat racing.

hoping for some gorey moments in this game at least, like some real horror movies do. Imo that's what makes those movies scary/holy crap moments. jump scares can only go so far when the consequence of losing is merely death screen or being dragged away with nothing to show for it.

I think that the intensity comes from the camera angle. It gives it that creepy, stalker cam vibe. It also sets up the jump scares. That being said, I don't think they want "scary" as much as they want the fun, campy horror movie vibe.
IMO, it's just extremely difficult to pull of the completely scary horror game. Some manage to do it in part. Some try really hard and it doesn't work too well. IMO, the last time that I was truly and intensely scared to move in a game was Silent Hills. The combination of the fog and the radio was just crazy intense.

Alien was at the minimum a 7. I'd give it a solid 8 in my opinion. The atmosphere was incredible.

Alien Isolation = amazing game, I feel sorry for anyone who didn't buy because Ign gave it an 6 or whatever...
Most critics major gripes are often either nonsense or actually some of the games stronger points. The key to mastering A:I is attention to detail and, understand its mechanics and not be reckless. There has been people who played through the entire game not knowing there is an objective marker on the motion tracker and complaining about getting lost.

I look at this game, and all I see is hollywood. Riddled of jumps scares and cringe worthy scripts. I couldn't even go through the entire video, because it was unbearable. Unlike PT, which had an incredible atmosphere of dread, had jump scares, but the atmosphere made it even worst. On another note, I hate Konami.

as you shouldn't. A man doesn't get all these people that try and push the "SP only isn't worth $60" rhetoric. A man won't pay more for MP because he knows he'll get bored with it way faster than a good SP. The great SP games are the only ones a man doesn't sell shortly after beating because he knows he can go back at least once a year and enjoy the story again. Cinematic games are more worth the $60 for their replay value. A man paid $80 for the Order CE and hasn't regretted it nearly as much as that $100 he spent on Destiny (sold back for $99 so not much loss but still shows that more stuff is not always better besides MP gets repetitive quick)
