PS4 System Software Update 2.57 Coming Soon

Today Sony Computer Entertainment announcement system software update 2.57 will be released “soon” on PS4. What does it do? Stability.

Rimeskeem3194d ago

It would be nice if they told us more than just stability

JoGam3194d ago (Edited 3194d ago )

Its more than Stability. Its Stability 2.0. Watch how stabilized your games look after the update.

Shazz3194d ago

Stabilization for the PS nation ;) this is the 2nd stability update yet I still get error in the system software a after I come out YouTube now and again.

dantesparda3193d ago

Ugh, OMG, im so sick of this sh't. Im so tired of waiting. Come on Sony, you beyond suck at this. Seriously. This is one area where MS is crushing you. The next real update better have all the missing features people have been asking for. Its almost 2 years later and its freaking pathetic!

Palitera3193d ago

@Dante

You know what they say about Greatness, right? ^^

ChrisGTR13193d ago

yea... sony pretty much sucks when it comes to updates. just look at the ps3, its pretty much the same situation as now. get 5 stability updates spread over a year then get we finally get an update with like three worthwhile features while they still ignore tons of blatantly obvious features.

ehh but hey it could be worse i remember back when the ps3 didn't have in game xmb for like 3 years and we'd be getting stability update after stability update. id be furious every time. how could something this important be put off for such a long time. meanwhile xbox 360 had an OS redesign every 2 years. smh

OB1Biker3193d ago

Well there was an article yesterday about having to restart the PS4 sometimes when you press eject to switch it on while in rest mode.. doesnt make sense to make fun about minor updates now while complaining about minor glitches.

Conzul3193d ago

At this point I'm just waiting for ooVoo.
Need video chat on mah Peesfour.

wonder if this stability stops games ejecting and ps4 randomly turning on.
or allows to turn chat off at a console level rather than in game all time.

i hear we are getting a calender because i have heard millions of people asking for one...

wellard3193d ago

Yeah seriously, what the heck is the deal with this calendar? Out of all the things they could add to the ps4 and they choose a calendar. That's borderline pathetic.

Crazyglues3193d ago

Well on the upside it feels nice and smooth and Rocket league is now working fine for me...

where before it was making my PS4 scream.. now it runs fine.. so who knows maybe stability just fixes a few things that were not running smoothly..

kaizokuspy3193d ago

Rocket league made your ps4 scream bc in the menu, if you panned your car around and looked at too much grass, it caused it to freak out, but it is fixed now. Amazing game!

UKmilitia3193d ago

mine isnt fixed, infact since rocket league made fan go really loud i have noticed it loud on planetside 2 also.

IanTH3193d ago

They should probably stop releasing these small updates altogether. Bundle them into one larger one later that has at least one feature. People may wonder why the updates are further apart, but at this point these updates just end up creating little events where people bitch about updates.

Not going to sit here and say I wouldn't like some of these other features. Obviously I would. But I guess I'm happy enough with the console that I largely don't mind. I would like folders though. There is so much the XMB on PS3 got right over this cluttered PS4 interface.

rainslacker3193d ago

Why? So people on forums that don't own a PS4 won't complain?

If the update improves things, release it when it's ready. Who cares what the trolls and haters want to say. As a PS4 owner, I'm fine with any update that doesn't break stuff. I don't care if it has tons of features that I'm not likely to use. Same would be true for any console I may own...release the updates that need to be released for whatever reason when they're ready. Let the haters hate so they can feel good about themselves, while we can have what the console maker feels is needed to make the console work.

When the big features are ready, release them. No reason to delay other stuff just to get some positive vibes on forums.

IanTH3192d ago

I have to remember sarcasm does not express itself on the internet. Either label it as such or find another way to get my point across. The whole first paragraph was just a guffaw at the stupid things people will bitch about - and a vocal minority at that.

The second was genuine opinion though.

Baffles my mind how they still haven't added friends notifications after nearly two years.

The_Devil_Hunter3194d ago

This is what happens when you're in the lead of the console war, you stop trying. I'm sure sony have some great system updates on the way but are they in a hurry to release them, no. Microsoft is doing what sony was doing earlier last console gen, and it's working especially that BC stuff that everyone is so fond of, because it can help them get an increase of units if they market it correctly. I wish sony would keep giving us the same amount of udates Xbox is getting, as someone mentioned, I would really like to be notified when my friends are online.

loopygames3194d ago (Edited 3194d ago )

I don't really mind the stability updates. It's good to hear they're polishing the OS. Sony seems to be using the Spring & Fall update approach like the Xbox 360. Last 2 major updates were 2.0 (Fall 2014) and 2.50 (Spring 2015). Next one should be near the end of October like 2.0 which coincides with Paris Games Week (10/28 - 11/1).

pivotplease3193d ago

Waiting for some new stuff for sure. PS3 was updated at a much faster rate (although I swear it was like a two to three year wait for in-game xmb). Even just better/more media support would make me happy at this point. Enough of this USB stick nonsense. Let us use the hard drive like last gen. Also... Psone classics anybody?

psplova3194d ago

I'm waiting for the update that allows us to put some of these awesome in-game screen captures I have to good use.. Like to be able to use one as my background for instance.. Come on Sony. Get on it already.

pivotplease3193d ago

Custom themes in general would be great news. The store feels full of bloatware themes right now. Quality control must have got fired.

psplova3193d ago

Right. Couldn't you do all this with the PS3 after a certain point? Just doesn't make sense for them to ignore the obvious demand for this feature. Give the people what they want, I say.. It's not asking much.

Speak_da_Truth3194d ago

I'm sorry but we don't need announcements for stability updates and besides my Ps4 is on a stand so it's stable enough already Sony!

wellard3193d ago

Lucky you. I've had my PS4 since launch and it's probably had dozens of stability updates and yet it still pivots and wobbles on its stand.

pivotplease3193d ago

Console abuse. The stand works perfectly for me as well. Unless you stand there and push it at the top with some effort but that's just being ignorant of rudimentary physics.

kaizokuspy3193d ago

The best stability update came with liquid nails. Mine is glued to the wall. It has a good strong hold ;)

wellard3193d ago

LOL at the abuse. Sure slightly pressing on the far right front corner with my pinky finger is definitely abuse. I guess that makes my other half a beaten wife. You pillock.

rainslacker3193d ago (Edited 3193d ago )

@pivot

I find your screen name rather ironic on this particular tangent in the thread. :)

Hopefully this will fix the constant server shut downs

BLow3194d ago (Edited 3194d ago )

I know that PSN has its problems but constant shut downs is a bit much you think. I mean do you play 24 7. How long has it been down for you in the past week? Most people have fulltime jobs, girlfriends/wives, other interests besides video games, oh and that major time sucker called KIDS.

Oh well, I guess its the it thing to bash a service thats up at LEAST 95% of the time and i could add a couple of points to that but hey its down constantly....people now days love to blow things out of proportion. Oh well I wasted too much time typing this and get back to playing on my PS4...OH WAIT...ITS DOWN😒😒😒 ;😒

kaizokuspy3193d ago

@blow I agree. I play almost 24/7, the total amount of time I've lost playing since Feb 2015 until now was about 6 hours in total. Not that big of a deal.

What, I thought this was dead after Shawn Layden left Sony. I would definitely pick this up if it's true. I have such great memories of playing the MediEvil games on PS1 and I played the PS4 remake. Such a great and underrated series.

Cacabunga2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

A rumored game at a rumored show.. we’ve seen it all

TiredGamer2h ago

Agreed. The first remake was stylistically beautiful and a very noticeable improvement over the original in every regard. And it was reasonably priced and sustainably developed (i.e. not some mega big budget game that was do or die for the developer).

Zeke684h ago

Thanks for the spoilers... :(

RonnySins3h ago

Another day, another remake. Ugh!

SonyStyled3h ago

If you played the original print I can see your annoyance. I didn’t and probably a lot others the past 20 years.

Was it any good? Would you suggest playing the original print of 2, or suggest the remake? Just wondering because I didn’t play the originals as I had an n64 at the time

TiredGamer2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

I played the first remake and absolutely loved it. The quality of life and control improvements were very noticeable. I tried playing the PS1 original and gave up halfway through at the janky controls.

Expect the same for part 2. The PS1 version is janky as heck, but I would gobble up an improved remake day one.

The beauty of this kind of stuff is that I find myself enjoying more retro gaming today, so a relatively low budget classic remake (call it a single-A release) is exactly what is missing from first party releases in the modern age. I don’t want every game to be an unsustainable AAAA endeavor that is just overwhelming in every regard. Truly miss when game releases could be modest-sized surprises and still be commercially successful/viable.

Bring on more quality classic remakes!

Knightofelemia3h ago

Such a good series I also wish Sony would dust off Wild Arms and Legend of Dargoon even the Legend series needs to see the light again.

Omegasyde2h ago

My bets on new Socom and/or Wolverine (since Deadpool 3 is dropping in the summer).

I think one after this state of play will be PS5 pro preorder
