The Framerate Police Causes Developer To List 30fps Lock As Game Feature

One Angry Gamer "The Framerate Police is a new curator on Steam that has quickly gained a lot of attention – both negative and positive – but at the end of the day it's simply a community tool used to help consumers gauge what the frame-rate is for a PC game.

The group hasn't been received entirely with open arms and kindness by all developers. However, in one case – after a rather nasty kerfuffle with the community – a studio decided that instead of blocking The Framerate Police, they would accede by listing their 30fps hard-lock as a feature for the game."

Its good to see the Framerate Police keeping an eye on the frame rate in games but for a game like Guild of Dungeoneering its not that end of the world that its capped at 30 fps. Its a turn based game so you're not going to need the smoother fps. Of course I would want an unlocked frame rate but its not going to hurt a game like this. Same thing happened with the South Park game. It was capped at 30 fps but I still had a blast playing the game. Now if its a game like Need For Speed where you're driving at 200 mph into oncoming traffic then yea you better allow PC to have an unlocked frame rate.

Agreed. Atlest I can get behind having a stead frame rate as something every developer should be focused on. No matter what the resolution they end up with, the frame rate should be stable. Even though they can say 30fps locked and still have drops.

I agree that FPS can vary per game. It's definitely more egregious for things like NFS but it's also nice to see devs responding by at least listing the info on their page.

Hopefully more devs will do this or Valve will bring back the 30fps tag so it won't have to be a big thing just to know if a game is capped or not.

South Park makes sense as 30fps or even less.. It's trying really hard to look like the series, which certainly isn't running at 60fps.. That'd just look wrong.

The only problem I have with the 30fps police claiming they're just there to inform and not shame, etc.. Why the heck call it the 30fps police then? That implies it's an offence to be anything lower than 60fps. TB not thinking through what he's doing again? (Or just not caring about anyone who might disagree..)

Steam just need to bring back the 30fps tag

I agree and so does Totalbiscuit actually. But since it's for people who are so bothered by 30 FPS that it could be a make or break deal for them, he is being purely objective and is planning on pointing out every 30 FPS game on steam regardless of whether it's a big deal or not.

Always nice to include more easy to access info for the average consumers

There really is no excuse to cap a fast paced 3D game to 30fps on PC.

I mean for games like southpark stick of truth and other side scrollers, it is a non issue.

But other games like *cough* batman arkham knight, an that's fast paced action, also quite a few racing games, 30fps lock is just an insult.

There are far more worst curators than the frame rate police. I often see the ones that have " LOL on played 3 hours and sucks" or " run shoot and kill" then there's the lazy ass ones that just use a YouTube title and copy and paste a link.

I do feel for the devs since they got trolled, the the fact is this curator is meant to inform users, other curators don't even bother to do that. If they want only good news or post what they want the users to choose then that's a dev that doesn't respect their fan base. They need to be open to all the feedback even if it's trolling, since being a dev puts them in that spot. Plus now with steam refunds they can actually see the feedback

good stuff! 30fps is unacceptable for PC games . Lazy developers need to get a wrap on the knuckles.
