The true genius of the Sony E3 2015 press conference was misdirection

They say that the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn’t exist.

Well, the greatest trick Sony have pulled might will be getting people to forget that their fall line-up doesn’t exist.

So, this journalist thinks that Sony's E3 was misdirection because "they didn’t announce anything that can fill that Uncharted 4 shaped hole in the fall line up"?
What a joke. Let's forget about all the games coming up till the end of the year (that people forget about because they are not dudebro games)
Also funny how easy people forget that a year has 12 months, some people only seem to be interested in the holiday months.
Give people what they want and they'll buy your products.There is a reason why people at Sony conferences cheer the way they do, unlike other conferences where the people applauding are staff people.

AngelicIceDiamond3216d ago

"Let's forget about all the games coming up till the end of the year (that people forget about because they are not dudebro games)"

In these articles they forget about the niche games because some people just don't care about them. That's probably why they're not mentioned.

Not every single PlayStation or Xbox fan cares for for all the games on their favorite console, believe it or not. If a particular gamer is excited for say lots of JRPG's, then game on but you can't push someones said interest's on to another gamers especially if said gamer is dead set on the type of games he or she is interested in on the same favorite console.

that's why certain gamers glance over certain games. But luckily PS4 has such a diverse library. RIME, Everybody's Gone To Rapture, Tomorrow Children, Terraway, Until Dawn etc. So there's something for everybody regardless.

ninsigma3215d ago

That's very true. But the problem is these are journalists, who are supposed to be showing the full story but often in these articles the niche, yet highly anticipated, games are never mentioned because they are not comparable to the likes of halo, forza, gears, uncharted and tomb raider. So I can see how people get fed up when they have exclusive games they are really looking forward to yet news sites brush over those games.

Army_of_Darkness3215d ago

For f#@k sakes... Sony's e3 conference fool me... I actually believed them and their 3rd party partners that games like mgs5, fallout 4,black ops 3, uncharted trilogy and star wars battle front was also coming out on the ps4 this fall................

freshslicepizza3215d ago

@xHeavYx
"What a joke. Let's forget about all the games coming up till the end of the year (that people forget about because they are not dudebro games)"

so tell us, what games are they with actual release dates? and why is it that every time sony gets called out for something the main supporters seem like their best defence is to simply attack the competition without really answering the question? i don't think forza 6, fable legends and tomb raider are dudebro games if that is supposed to be an attack on the xbox one's main games coming this year.

"Also funny how easy people forget that a year has 12 months, some people only seem to be interested in the holiday months."

when the majority of interest and sales occur during this time of course the focus will be more on that timeline. yes we can all agree microsoft does not spread out its big games as much as they should but again you're not answering anything, just deflecting the situation of the ps4's line-up for the rest of the year.

"Give people what they want and they'll buy your products.There is a reason why people at Sony conferences cheer the way they do, unlike other conferences where the people applauding are staff people."

this is the magic sony has on its fans. even jack tretton said they have the most diehard fans. he knows sony fans will be on the forums daily supporting them at all costs. they constantly feed these dangling carrots and the fans eat it up. they keep promising to wait for greatness year after year and to be fair they do deliver in the end. it just takes time and in the meantime critics will call them out for it if things get delayed, it's their job.

this especially happens when you are at the top, expectations grow. this is why sony should just brush it off because at the end of the day sales speak for themselves. HOWEVER the fans should not be acting this way. sales do not put money in their pocket so it should be their job to want more, not defend sony's decision to just let indie games and third party games carry them through. they should expect more than that and not have an instant reaction to downplay the competition. how does that make your ps4 experience better?

uth113215d ago

Not every player cares about Call of Duty or Halo either though.

donthate3215d ago

"They say that the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn’t exist. Well, the greatest trick Sony have pulled might well be getting people to forget that their fall line-up doesn’t exist either."

I have been saying this all along and couldn't agree more.

There are so many exclusive games releasing on Xbox One in the next 12-18 months, but where are the PS4 exclusives?

Pushed, pushed and pushed. The inevitably we get the "but we have indies". Yes you, but vast majority of us do not care about obscure and simple games.

remixx1163215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

@donthate

.....and I'm guessing the greatest trick Microsoft ever pulled was making you guys forget the other 10 months in the year don't exist....

You spit more BS than Aussie dude

You claim MS has a lot of exclusives coming in the next 12 to 18 months but Sony has none???? What.....you sound like a shortsided, narrowminded Dingus

......and a hypocrite.

Uncharted 4, tearaway unfolded, persona 5, street fighter 5, ratchet and clank, dragon quest, rime, no mans sky, the last guardian, horizon, disgeae 5, the Nathan drake collection, until dawn, ....oh who am I kidding your pathetic, and the list only gets bigger.

Also you claim that you don't care about obscure indie games yet I'm willing to bet you'll make a mean list of ori, gigantic and below won't you??

ShinMaster3215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

* Horizon: Zero Dawn
* Shenmue 3
* The Last Guardian
* Uncharted 4
* Street Fighter 5
* Ratchet & Clank
* World of Final Fantasy
* Dreams
* Devolver Digital games
* Persona 5
* Final Fantasy 7 Remake

None of these PS4 games were confirmed to be coming to Xbox One.

I expect fanboys to move the goalpost and try to define what games count and which don't by calling them "niche" among other things.

Also, there are plenty of third-party and multiplatform games coming out this fall.
The PS4 is not limited to only playing first-party games only.

Spotie3214d ago

"In these articles they forget about the niche games because some people just don't care about them."

And some people just don't care about Halo, Forza, Fable, Gears, or Tomb Raider. Hell, some people just don't care about Uncharted, God of War, Killzone, or inFamous.

Some people only care about Disgaea and Persona.

The difference, as I see it, is that the Xbox crowd- here, anyway- only wants to consider certain games or types of games, while the PS crowd- here, anyway- will take into consideration every possible game and game type.

I'm not telling anybody they have to be interested in any particular game. I don't think I've seen any PlayStation fan do that. What I DO see, however- and what I agree with- is people saying you can't count out games just because you're not interested.

Example: At best, the only game I'm even mildly interested in that's coming to XB1 this fall is Tomb Raider; does that mean everything else ceases to exist? Should my list of notable games for XB1 have ONLY TR on it?

That'd be silly, right?

Unless they really are just a fanboy, NO ONE should be discounting games simply because they're not interested. I don't ignore Until Dawn because horror games scare the crap out of me; I just won't play it. It still exists. It's still relevant to the people that want to play it.

There's no way in hell a gaming "journalist" should do any less.

miyamoto3214d ago (Edited 3214d ago )

Also two years in a row the PS4 proved that its strong push of Third Party games is mainly responsible for moving millions of units during the holidays and not the exclusives.

Exclusives are well distributed throughout the non-holiday season months which keeps the hungry PlayStation Nation well fed and keeps the hardware sales moving.

Sony knows well to keep the First Party and Third Party games from competing with each other during the holidays.

This is a very obvious, elementary and no top secret historical fact.

Aaaaaand bingo my friend, I don't want a lame ass rebuttal as to why it wasn't exciting, I don't wanna here crap like "well its not releasing this year" or pathetic overexaggerating like @donthate claiming the games won't be available until 4 years down the line.

I got more than what I wanted out of the conference and much of it was 2016 like uncharted 4, horizon, and the last guardian......

I've never seen such hard downplaying......its pathetic.

Aceman183215d ago

Ok mister writer I'll just sale my PS4 for an X1 system with 3 franchises I care nothing for (halo, forza, and fable).

If they were releasing Quantum Break this fall I'd happily purchase the system but for now I'll just stick with my PS4, and Wii U.

Xavior_Reigns3216d ago

This will end well... and so the dreadful dance begins again.

Snookies123216d ago

Lol, Final Fantasy VII Remake was the most hyped I've ever been for an announcement. I don't care if they didn't announce a release date, just knowing it's being made is more than enough.

ninsigma3215d ago

I just sat there with my jaw dropped for the entire announcement, I could have cried I was so happy xD
I'm really excited to see what they do with it to bring it up to today's standards. I'll tell you one thing, I don't envy them that job. All eyes are on nomura and his team now.

Mrveryodd3215d ago

I know ..., its a fn joke how people carry on about a piece of plastic .

dkp233215d ago

Hence the misdirection article.

Nosred3216d ago

Nice article,despite the hype and nostalgia generated by the TLG and FF7 and Shammue announcement, the conference sony left much to be desired, they spoke of TV that many criticized in MS but have not seen any criticism against Sony, several mult games and so promises and nothing improvement to PS4. Unlike MS that made announcements of major AAA games for this and next year, not counting the new improvements to the Xbox as news dash, Early Access, BC, price cut, so yes the conference of MS was better as a whole and notHe left nothing to be desired.

nucky643216d ago

from January 2015 to the right now - what has MS released???.......the answer is nothing.
from today, july 6 to sept 14, what is MS releasing?......nothing. MS will bring out forza on sept. 15....halo5 on oct27 and tomb raider in December as far as new content. and, all 3 were known to be coming before E3 - so, MS didn't announce anything new for this year at E3 and they won't be releasing anything new for the first 8 months of this year.

the x1 isn't bringing as much this year as you make it out to be. seriously....the first 8 months of the year and the x1 has nothing released? crazy.

Nosred3216d ago

You to brag about Bloodborne but'll tell you it was the only game well received PS since the launch the console or Xbox is gaining in quantity and quality already that most of the games already released healthful better than Knack, Drive C., The order, Killzone among others ...

Not to mention that at the end of the year the MS will compensate with large AAA and the beginning of next, different from sony that so will release remasters and niche games for this year.

AngelicIceDiamond3216d ago

@Nucky I don't agree with @Nosred but to answer your question.

Ori And The Blind Forest, State Of Decay, Screamride, Goat Simulator, Fruit Ninja, IDARB, Pnuema, Funk Of Titans, Massive Chalice, Poolnation FX, NeverWinter and Lifeless Planet.

Later this year: Happy Dungeon, World Of Tanks, SMITE, Gigantic, Elite Dangerous, Beyond Eyes, Rare Replay, Gears remaster.

I know your statement is out of anger but its still completely false nonetheless.

RiPPn3215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

@AngelicIceDiamond: All of those aside from Screamride and State of Decay are downloadable titles.. you know the same type of games that the PS4 has nearly 3 times the amount of and Xbox fans dismiss.. not to mention that screamride and state of decay are downloadable titles that just happened to get a retail release..

If we are going to say Sony isn't releasing anything at the end of the year because niche and downloadables don't count then we should be holding Microsoft to the same standard for November 2014 - September 2015 in which case they have released nothing.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen3214d ago

@AngelicIceDiamond
Neverwinter and Elite Dangerous are timed exclusives and both are coming to the PS4.

Rimeskeem3216d ago

Nosred, why should you care? You don't even have a PS4. You just come on any article that is remotely against PS4/Sony and try to make prove points with such horrific grammar.

I personally thought Playstation conference at E3 had mostly what I wanted to see. Uncharted 4, Horizon, TLG were the Big 3 for me and that's what I got.

ninsigma3215d ago

I can only recall recore and sea of theives as the new games ms announced (well that and gears remaster but we knew that existe). Recore was only a cg trailer so we have no idea what that will be like and sea of theives doesn't look AAA to me. Oh and rare collection. Almost forgot about that.

I felt like their best announcement was bc. The mine craft demo was cool though but I don't play mine craft and it used up a lot of time they could have used to announce other stuff. Guess I'll have to wait till gamescom.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen3215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

I find it amusing how some actually believe that other games don't exist if they aren't released in October, November, and December. The absurd nature of that belief is worthy of ridicule itself, but the games that are scheduled for release by the end of the year are worth discussing more than the absurd notion that 3 months of video game and console sales is more important than 12 months worth of the same. Although many of the following games may be considered to be "niche," they appeal to a broad spectrum of gaming tastes. Games being released from August until the end of the year:

Exclusives

Until Dawn
Deep Down
Kill Strain
Disgaea 5
Drawn to Death
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
The Tomorrow Children
Fat Princess Adventures
Guns Up!
Onechanbara Z2 Chaos
Rime
Wild
Tearaway Unfolded
Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection

Console Exclusives

Persona 5
Nobunaga's Ambition
Dragon's Quest Heroes
Dragon's Dogma Online
Enter the Gungeon
EverQuest Next
Firewatch
The Forest
The Killing Floor 2
SOMA
H-Hour: World's Elite
No Man's Sky
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

Let's discuss the reality of the situation instead of discussing the opinion of one man with an agenda.

jetlian3215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

The reality is only uncharted collection is AAA the rest niche! And ucc is half baked as it is. Deep down and wild 100 percent not coming this year!

Deep down has been on you ps fans list since 2013 and will still be on it in 2016.

Nucky now to september rare replay, gears r, smite just got achievements and world of tanks.

LeCreuset3215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

IGiveHugs: "Although many of the following games may be considered to be 'niche,' they appeal to a broad spectrum of gaming tastes."

Jetlian: "The reality is only uncharted collection is AAA the rest niche!"

Come on, now. Can't be so wrapped up in getting your point out that you don't pay attention to what the person you're responding to said, especially when what was said addresses a major concern raised by your post. A diverse lineup has always been a PS staple. Sales prove its appeal. I can tell you from currently playing it on Steam Early Access, The Forest in alpha build is more fun than many of the AAA's out there and will probably be a better game than many of the ones you're looking forward to.

lemoncake3215d ago

I have to agree with jetlian on this one, it's a decent list, but is it a hard hitting AAA lineup list? People will of course always have different tastes but for me uncharted collection, Everquest next and no man sky are the only ones that jump out at me on that list. And I am not expecting no man sky or Everquest to come this year, 2016 maybe.

uth113215d ago

Don't forget there's also this little movie coming out this fall called Star Wars episode VII, and PS4 is well-positioned with marketing rights and exclusive Star Wars content for Battlefront AND Disney Infinity.

And the Call of Duty marketing deal. It's not like Sony doesn't have big guns for this fall. Add that to big multiplat AAA games like Fallout 4, the diversity of the list above, other exclusives released this year like Bloodborne, there's plenty of compelling reasons to buy a PS4 this year.

@IGiveHugs - You can add Journey to that list, it's been confirmed for July 21st release.

star_lancer3215d ago

"I find it amusing how some actually believe that other games don't exist if they aren't released in October, November, and December."

Sort of how PS fans ignore all of the Xbox One games released in the first 9 months of the year, and pretend MS's holiday lineup represents the whole year.

Not a bad Fall schedule to not have any first party Juggernaut either .. Fallout 4, Just Cause 3, Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain. And those are just my personal favorites..!

Aenea3215d ago

Yes it was short, not sure about the people loving it when only a small percentage of the US can use PS Vue. For Europeans like me it was a waste of time since it will take years before we will even have it (we still don't have PS Now, is in beta in the UK) and even then, I have cable internet, can't lose the TV subscription from it so why on earth would I even be interested in Vue to begin with? Besides, Sickbeard, Couchpotato and Plex give me everything I want to watch :)

Probably won't happen for PS+ since Sony makes a clear distinction between a PS4 game and a PS5 game, unlike PC and Xbox where it is not a specific device game (It's now always an Xbox game).

So to make the PS5 game of fallout 4 available. Bethesda would need to renegotiate the complete deal with Sony.
hence why there's often only the PS4 version of the game available on PS+.

Let's hope Bethesda and Sony can arrive to term quickly.
