In these articles they forget about the niche games because some people just don't care about them. That's probably why they're not mentioned.

Not every single PlayStation or Xbox fan cares for for all the games on their favorite console, believe it or not. If a particular gamer is excited for say lots of JRPG's, then game on but you can't push someones said interest's on to another gamers especially if said gamer is dead set on the type of games he or she is interested in on the same favorite console.

when the majority of interest and sales occur during this time of course the focus will be more on that timeline. yes we can all agree microsoft does not spread out its big games as much as they should but again you're not answering anything, just deflecting the situation of the ps4's line-up for the rest of the year.

this is the magic sony has on its fans. even jack tretton said they have the most diehard fans. he knows sony fans will be on the forums daily supporting them at all costs. they constantly feed these dangling carrots and the fans eat it up. they keep promising to wait for greatness year after year and to be fair they do deliver in the end. it just takes time and in the meantime critics will call them out for it if things get delayed, it's their job.

this especially happens when you are at the top, expectations grow. this is why sony should just brush it off because at the end of the day sales speak for themselves. HOWEVER the fans should not be acting this way. sales do not put money in their pocket so it should be their job to want more, not defend sony's decision to just let indie games and third party games carry them through. they should expect more than that and not have an instant reaction to downplay the competition. how does that make your ps4 experience better?

The difference, as I see it, is that the Xbox crowd- here, anyway- only wants to consider certain games or types of games, while the PS crowd- here, anyway- will take into consideration every possible game and game type.

I'm not telling anybody they have to be interested in any particular game. I don't think I've seen any PlayStation fan do that. What I DO see, however- and what I agree with- is people saying you can't count out games just because you're not interested.

Example: At best, the only game I'm even mildly interested in that's coming to XB1 this fall is Tomb Raider; does that mean everything else ceases to exist? Should my list of notable games for XB1 have ONLY TR on it?

Also two years in a row the PS4 proved that its strong push of Third Party games is mainly responsible for moving millions of units during the holidays and not the exclusives.

Nice article,despite the hype and nostalgia generated by the TLG and FF7 and Shammue announcement, the conference sony left much to be desired, they spoke of TV that many criticized in MS but have not seen any criticism against Sony, several mult games and so promises and nothing improvement to PS4. Unlike MS that made announcements of major AAA games for this and next year, not counting the new improvements to the Xbox as news dash, Early Access, BC, price cut, so yes the conference of MS was better as a whole and notHe left nothing to be desired.

MS will bring out forza on sept. 15....halo5 on oct27 and tomb raider in December as far as new content. and, all 3 were known to be coming before E3 - so, MS didn't announce anything new for this year at E3 and they won't be releasing anything new for the first 8 months of this year.

I felt like their best announcement was bc. The mine craft demo was cool though but I don't play mine craft and it used up a lot of time they could have used to announce other stuff. Guess I'll have to wait till gamescom.

Come on, now. Can't be so wrapped up in getting your point out that you don't pay attention to what the person you're responding to said, especially when what was said addresses a major concern raised by your post. A diverse lineup has always been a PS staple. Sales prove its appeal. I can tell you from currently playing it on Steam Early Access, The Forest in alpha build is more fun than many of the AAA's out there and will probably be a better game than many of the ones you're looking forward to.

Don't forget there's also this little movie coming out this fall called Star Wars episode VII, and PS4 is well-positioned with marketing rights and exclusive Star Wars content for Battlefront AND Disney Infinity.

And the Call of Duty marketing deal. It's not like Sony doesn't have big guns for this fall. Add that to big multiplat AAA games like Fallout 4, the diversity of the list above, other exclusives released this year like Bloodborne, there's plenty of compelling reasons to buy a PS4 this year.

Why is it that all of a sudden, E3 has to be about the last six months of the year? It's especially funny that gamers count the days until E3 every year, eager to hear announcements, even though everyone knows the vast majority of games are announced a year or more before release, and suddenly we hold these press conferences to a standard that goes against everything we're actually hoping to see. There's a reason people were so surprised with Fallout 4's release this year.

And ironically, after years of us complaining about these all-important fall games like DriveClub, The Master Chief Collection, Assassin's Creed, and Battlefield 4, which launched as total trainwrecks, some people still just want to complain about Sony having "just niche games", that is if they are at least willing to give Sony enough credit and not play the idiotic "no games" card.

There was no more "misdirection" than we get at any other E3. This year, Sony just came with the announcements a lot of us wanted.

Now it's just no good because it's "too good to be true", even though it's all true.

Sony should have just rushed Uncharted and held off on releasing Bloodborne until the fall. Then we could all fool ourselves into thinking we're getting exactly what we want.*

*This year at least. Lots of us used to think releasing games outside of the fall season was a good thing.

I wouldn't say it was "misdirection" as much as forward looking. Think about what we saw LAST year at Sony's E3. There were a bunch of titles that came out THIS year. The same goes for THIS year. We saw a bunch of titles that will be coming out NEXT year. Whereas, MS chose to revisit some titles that they had shown in the past and that will be released this year. It's really just a difference of philosophies in terms of how they view what E3 is for. The same can be said about AAA release schedules. MS seems to like to load up for the holidays. Sony seems to like to trickle them out throughout the year. Both companies have had major games delayed. Once again...difference in philosophy.
The only misdirection I see is this author's need to try to create some BIG difference when there really are only minor differences in the way they see and use the conference.

Microsoft has released no AAA game for the first 7 months of this year and is not releasing any AAA game until September 14 - which means no AAA game for nine months yet the writer of this article talks of misdirection by Sony! The PS4 will have had no less than 4 AAA games during those 9 months and is still yet to release games like 'No Man's Sky', 'Dragon Ouest Heroes', 'Disgaea 5', 'The Tomorrow Children' and many more. Most of these are console exclusives and many are favourites of gamers who have played earlier games in those franchises. In addition, there us the Uncharted Collection coming in October and a remastered God of War 3 in just a fortnight. All this on top of so many multiplats coming during the holidays means only trolls can continue to spread the pure fantasy that Xbone has more games coming out than Sony.

Hey, just be glad that your console of choice has games coming and enjoy and leave the PS4 lovers to their games!

I own an Xbone as well and I haven't used it at all this year. The only two games I played on it were the MCC Collection and Sunset Overdrive both released last year. This may be news to Xbone lovers but gamers like to play games at all times of the year, not just during the last three or four months. Just because Microsoft wants it that way does not make it universal.

Funny how Microsoft last year proudly announced three games that we have yet to see any gameplay for - 'Crackdown', 'Scalebound' and 'Phantom Dust' which I understand has been shelved for now. Over a year later, where are they? I guess there is no misdirection there then.

Anyways, I don't get all this bickering between fans of these 2 systems, already didn't get it in the Commodore/Atari era. Both systems have awesome games already and more are coming out this year and the next years. If your system of choice releases exclusives (console exclusives, timed exclusives, brand exclusives, whatevs) that you like just enjoy them!

When there are more of these exclusives for the Xbox that I like I will even get an Xbox One. Honestly I went with the PS4 since I've had playstations since the PSX, had I went with the X1 instead I would've been in the same boat. So far I don't think the number of titles you can't play on the other isn't big enough yet to own both, that is my opinion and if I had money to burn I wouldn't even care and already would have both, but for now I don't feel it's worth it yet.

Traditionally forza is 3.5+ million seller but for whatever reason on xbo its not getting there. The order,ryse and sunset are all new ips with no series to base them on.lbp as a series has fallen too for whatever reason

BB is based on the souls series and its sold at the normal rate. AAA is just budget it also how popular its going to be. If BB was given 200 million it still would never hit 10s of million sold. It would remain were its at.

How does the fall lineup not exist when I've already got 3 exclusives in my sights alongside MGSV?

Media Molecule's pedigree speaks for itself, and critics loved Tearaway for the Vita, which makes Tearaway Unfolded a no brainer for me.

I love survival horror and multipath games like Heavy Rain, so I'm keeping a close eye on Until Dawn.

My kids love anything couch co-op and they play Fat Princess all the time, so Fat Princess Adventures is gonna get bought.

This is one of those times I'd be curious to compare my trophy list against the author's to see what he plays and how much, that justifies not counting certain games. My fall is covered. E3 showed me what I wanted to see which was what the future holds other than the umpteenth sequel dump.

I mostly agree with this article.

I think both Sony and Microsoft need more AAA exclusives... well, Microsoft needs them more then Sony to improve sales.

Microsoft seems to have caused the greatest misdirection by making everyone forget that haven't released any exclusives for the first 9 months of 2015. Do people forget that to win a year, you must actively release worthwhile games all throughout the year instead of just toward the end of it?

Your comment is absolutely ridiculous. Do small games exist or not? You seem to want to believe they exist for PS4, but ignore them for Xbox One. It's right there in your comment. You clearly say "Big" in relation to MS upcoming games, then clearly say "big or small" in relation to Sony's. You're clearly the one trying to deceive people into believing that many Xbox One games don't actually exist.

MS has produced many games this year - you just want to ignore the smaller ones, while praising Sony for releasing smaller titles, in a desperate attempt to bash anything Xbox, and to keep forwarding the LIE that MS released NOTHING for the first nine months of the year.

I find it hard to believe that N4G is still crawling with biased, misinformed Sony fanatics who have to ignore, deceive, and flat out lie in order to make a point. You can't have it both ways, star_lancer. I've seen many Xbox fans- won't claim it was you, specifically- downplay the fact that games ARE coming this holiday. The very comment you're responding to lists 4 out of about 40 still to come. The article ignores all these "small" games.

If you're gonna pretend like small games don't count for the PS4, then don't be surprised when people take the same stance for the small games on XB1.

Anyone who says Sony didn't have a great E3 is lying to themselves. Their only problem was their biggest announcements are all coming to other systems. Also almost everyone didn't give two cents about PS Vue.

But a game like Horizon: Zero Dawn has "AAA" written all over it. It's sure to be a fantastic new IP. And Uncharted 4 is definitely going to deliver the goods. Those two games alone make it worth owning the PS4.

I also haven't said enough good things about the new Morpheus. Last year when I tried the first version, I honestly thought it was crap. The new upgraded device is fantastic and worthy of serious praise. Sony finally got VR right, and they're doing it at a mass market level. I really hope it finds great success, it deserves it.

There is no misdirection. E3 are well known for showing games well before they arrive.
