Those 5 games at launch and all in a superb quality would give the console a very successful launch I bet. And they really need that to get some third party developers believe in their hardware again.

And they need to fucking stop to make a hardware about a gimmick. Just make hardware for great games like back at the NES-Gamecube times.

Those aren't going to help them at all, besides the must have launch title. Fan proved for the longest they don't care about 3rd party, Nintendo proved it doesn't care about western 3rd parties, and devs proved they don't care about Nintendo when PS and Xbox are money makers for them, and more power isn't going to fix any of these issues.

At this point Nintendo has 4 options.

Make a powerful console for $399, and watch as they lose even more money.

Make a $299 console to compete with the PS4 and XBO, but lose since they don't have the online network, the 3rd party relations, the multimedia capabilities, or the install base to compete with them.

Make a $199 console and become the entry gaming platform for all gamers, and make a decent run for the next couple of generations with this tactic selling around +50m units per gen, since the asking price is enough to get most fans one the fence about Nintendo as of late to jump on board, and with just enough performance to handheld 3rd party games at their lowest settings.

Or make a fusion device, basically a tablet-like handheld that can beam content or connect to your HDTV for $199.

Nintendo can't go head to head with MS and Sony without some HUGE changes over there such as online, achievement systems, hardware, western 3rd party support, services and multimedia, because they're 1- 2 generations behind in those regards.

They need to either build an entry level device and over time build up those features. Or go with the Fusion device.

first and foremost it needs to be a games console for everyone, not just for nintendo games. the wiiu proved that nintendo cant succeed on the strength of its own games or fans... nintendo need to get with the program and realise in order to win a wider audience you need third party support to deliver diverse content.

the NX must be cutting edge. third parties require cutting edge technology because that is what the market demands of modern console games- they must be realistic, engrossing, graphically innovative etc. regardless of what nintendo believes is the vision for their own games, they need to recognise this reality and deliver it so third parties can do their jobs.

so if nintendo wants to have any hope of a level of success in line with sony/microsoft consoles, they need to make a console which competes technologically in the same league. that is- aggressively competitive specs.

if the NX is anything less than the above mentioned, it will be commercial suicide

Cut Nintendo some slack. The U isn't a bad system, with more must play games than the XBone and PS4 combined.

Only games I played on my PS4 this year was Destiny and Bloodborne. My PC was used for Witcher 3, and every other multiplat game that hit the XBone and PS4. Hell, my PS3 saw more playtime this year than my PS4.

My Wii U is still used for MK, Smash, Bayo, Splat, MHU, all Mario games, Nintendont, Wii games, etc, etc.

Shin Fire looks pretty good as well, but I am more excited about the games I mentioned above.

In fact despite its massive success, Wii has doomed future Nintendo consoles to being a generation behind in comparison to its competitors. You know what you described above is what Nintendo stands for and I would hate if they deviate from that. You see its what makes them unique.

Let me explain. What Nintendo does caters to a certain demographic, a younger one, the cartoony looks are a byproduct of that demographic and because hardware prices need to be affordable(around $300 starting price), hence the 'lack' of power.

Now what Nintendo can do is swallow their pride (and the next fiscal reports)and release a similarly powerful and easy to code for(x86) console to the ps4 and xb1, while continuing to be fully committed to that Nintendo type of video gaming (Mario, Zelda etc) allowing 3rd party to support them.

All they need to do is take a hit initially (they've got the money)with a $400 console that has almost everything the other two have but has that Nintendo factor as well!

Look it may seem like I'm suggesting a 'me too' kind of an approach for big N but I'm positive that if Nintendo can get up with the times, as in offer gamers what is considered the standard today while keep developing all their usual content they will win us back, for sure, hell you can count me in!

In essence create the N64 of 2016!

Their own games are not changing the fate though. After 1-2 years you have the same situation on the NX as they ahve today on the WiiU..aka only 2-5 big games in a whole year while the competition gets a ton of similar good games of a much bigger variation through third developers while they don't even have to develope any own big games.

3rd Party Support is the factor that Nintendo needs more than everything else to be a big player again.

the wii-u didn't really start off strong though. if the nx has maybe 2 really huge games like a new mario (that is new and refreshing like mario galaxy was) and metroid that could get the ball rolling. the big games for the wii u launch was new mario bros which was a side scroller and zombie u. so it wasn't exactly a stellar line-up of something huge everyone wants. it was also hindered by a high price tag compared to what the xbox 360 and ps3 were offering at the same time. but the real nail in the coffin was the wii u gamepad. consumers did not see it as a necessity and more as a gimmick.

have at least 2 major titles at launch, make the system affordable and stop with the gimmicks. it's the gimmicks what's hurting nintendo's chances of getting third party support. they don't want to create unique software for one system. that's why things like kinect, playstation move, (probably morpheus) and even the wii motion controller was not supported very well by third party.

the unique hardware will likely be something that will make it a handheld/console all in one. where games can be scaled for both without needed to make separate games. this is the issue with the playstation vita. they try to make it a mini ps3 like they did with the psp. a handheld needs unique software but if nintendo is able to to have a system that can do both console gaming and handheld without having the developer to port the games then that could be something consumers want.

according to initial reports, 3rd parties were very pleased with what Nintendo showed behind closed doors regarding the NX at this past E3. To me that sounds like a step in the right direction.

They need to consult with third party developers to find out what they would like in a console. Will make it much more likely that these same 3rd party developers will want to design games for it.

3. Some kind of account system.
-so digital game are not tied to the system only.

4. Make some of the "old guard" step back and let some new people throw some ideas out for games.

5. At least 2 new franchise games (Mario, Zelda, etc) available at launch and 1 a year afterwards.
-Start planning and developing now for those games.

6. Start courting third party devs. Don't give in to them and screw over the customer but have enough leeway to get them onto your side and start making games (not just throwing a port 9 months later) at your system.

I dunno, nobody knows how a system will ultimately do. People thought the Wii would flop, others thought the DS would get crushed.

Nintendo innovates. Sometimes it works, other times it does not.

I absolutely agree. The first party games for Wii U are absolutely amazing and fun. I hate their policies and I hated their E3 this year. However the exclusive games on Wii U are fine quality. Hell bad mouth the Wii U and Wii power all you want but I owned one Wii all last gen and still have my day 1 Wii U. Neither of them have had issues at all.

My PS4 died completely 1 week after its 1 year warranty went out and Sony wanted $205 to fix it! My XB1 Kinect broke the first month. Fortunately it was under warranty. Dont even get me started on the PS3 lock up issues and the 360 red ring of death. My point is that they at least have good quality build for their hardware. Now if we can just keep that software and hardware quality, get more power under the hood, and get third party support. I honestly believe that a Nintendo system with those things would be a powerhouse.

They've expressed their interest focusing on mobile games & also that it will not be near as powerful as the PS4 in recent interviews. So unfortunately it's already pinned itself in as something nobody wants already before it's even released. It'll no doubt sell well in Japan but will struggle to sell any units anywhere else.

It'll be a sad day when it releases as it will no doubt be Nintendo's final console by the looks of it :-(

When will they learn? Just bring us a SNES 2.0 or N64.. 2.0. Both machines were head of their class, bold & interesting. Which is the complete opposite of everything we've heard so far regarding the NX.

They said themselves that the number "4" is unlucky in their culture & investors wanted to skip it entirely & rename the Playstation. So Sony built exactly what they knew would be a successful product. Never have they said they don't know why it's currently successful.

I agree with you though that to be successful at this stage the NX will have to play games at 1080p 60fps. It's releasing at least 3 years after all it's competitors which although to a limited extent are already matching that. It has to appeal to customers in order to sell & as so far they're claiming it wont be as powerful then why would anyone bother picking up a 2nd or even 3rd console?

The thing is that nobody is really saying they dont want any gimmicks at all. But when the system is designed that those gimmicks are pratically forced on third party developers it makes designing multiplat games a pain in the ass and take longer. So why do it? The answer is third parties wont because of the lack of third party games on the Wii u.

I personally dont mind the gamepad. However, it shouldnt be forced on developers as a required peripheral. Gimicks should be optional to add to the experience. If Nintendo wants to succeed in getting third parties it can not make systems so hard to develop on. Plain and simple. Still havent seen that Project cars on my Wii u by the way. Know why? The forced gimmick. That gamepad sucks processing power and thus lowers the fidelity of the games.

It works great for Nintendo games because those games do not zap a consoles power at all. So Nintendo games use the gamepad as second screen and off screen play but maintain high resolution and FPS due to the lack of textures. You cant do that with COD, AC, Dragon Age, and Project Cars type games because of their reliance on realistic textures.

The next system should make all gimmick peripherals optional and should be designed in aw ay that a developer can blackout all of those gimmicks and just tap the power of the system. Simple as that.

#2 More advertisement for more of their games and the system itself.

#3 A strong amount of new first party franchise entries (that we actually want, unlike Federation Force) to cover the inevitable flood of bad cash-in games from other sources.

#4 Encourage new multiplats and new exclusives from third parties: PS4 and XBone owners won't jump to NX if the only third party support it has, is ports of already released games, let alone multiplatform owners.

Example: Get the closest annual release of CoD up on the NX when it releases.
Not Advanced Warfare, which will be obsolete by the time the NX releases and won't drive sales for itself or the system.

#5 A new controller on top of backwards compatibility with all existing Wii U controller options.

#6 FREE ONLINE MULTIPLAYER. None of that paid multi bulls^%$. If PC's don't need to charge for it, neither should consoles.

#7 Optionally, a trophy system. Braggards gotta have an outlet for their internet ^@#%-measuring contests or they'll just spam sites like this with more whining about it.

And the last one, #8, full backwards compatibility with all Wii U titles and a way of transferring all digital content over in as hassle free a way as possible.

If they can manage those points all at once, and they don't muck up the presentation of it, it should have a healthy first year.

If the NX launches in 2016 (which its strongly rumored) it will be Wii U part 2.. Let me explain, it will be the Wii U but changed and enhanced. Slightly stronger hardware, gamepad sold separately and really cheap. I mean $150 or $100... I think the gamepad will have an updated look, slimmer and possibly new functions. So with that being said ALL Wii U games Software will be backwards compatible like most Nintendo hardware..

Nintendo RARELY just totally lose support for their hardware. They have shown in the past to change the hardware slightly physically and technically to bring up sales. I believe the Wii U is a strong candidate for Nintendo to that with the hardware.

While I agree that Nintendo has a history of releasing slightly enhanced hardware, like the "New 3DS", if the NX ends up being a "Wii U 2", a slightly enhanced version of the Wii U, they're going to fail hard. Most gamers just didn't show interest in the Wii U, due to it's mediocre specs and gimmicky gamepad, so if they stick with that formula, they might as well just give up on gaming hardware for good.

1 - Nintendo has a CHANCE to have the most powerful hardware for at least a few years. PS4 and Xone won't upgrade (unless you include Cloud and DX12) for at least 4 more years. Nintendo can't afford to release anything that isn't at least 2x better then PS4.

2 - Skip the gimmicky controller. Sell it as an accessory if you just cant help yourself. Have a world class normal controller.

3 - 3rd party support.

4 - Internet. Stop with the walled garden BS and provide the best online experience possible.

imo nintendo will do something new ...they mentioned its a dedicated gaming platform ....plus they partnered with dena for mobile games ...along with a new subscription to replace club nintendo ...Now dena will be making original games and not ports for mobile using nintendo characters....like some mario platformer for android and ios to lure fans of the game to buy a full mario game on a nintendo console .so to do this im guessin dena will be making a nintendo app for android n ios...now this app will be a login membership to access denas variety of nintendo mobile games..(u can also play these dena games on a wii u 3ds and nx ...as long as you have this nintendo membership).you can also access this app with a pc ......now this app will come with a subscription ( monthly fee to play denas games)..plus this app will connect all the devices you own using one account ...so u can have an android device n download the new super mario mushroom fever n also be able to switch to an i pad and enjoy as long as you have the nintendo app on your i pad as well ...now the nx will be a dedicated gaming platform but it wont be as powerful as the ps4/xbone...but just a good bit more powerful than wii u..but the nx will be a hybrid of home and portable gaming .....imagine playing ssb wii u in your home n decide to grab a bite n start playing ssb 3ds at the restaurant while waiting for your order ...all your nx games will be portable but when portable the games will be scaled down ...graphics wise ....not saying the nx will look like the 3ds when portable but perhaps better. ...now this hybrid console will be the new age in gaming ..this will focus nintendos attention into one dedicated gaming platform ...instead of 2 devices simultaneously like they did with wii u n 3ds...or maybe the nx is some controller adapter to hook up to ur smart devices....and would allow to flip open like the 3ds...so imagine the bottom half of the 3ds with the buttons and joystick ...attaching to your i phone and being able to fold the 2 devices like the 3ds ...or the nx could be a nintendo tablet...or a nintendo phone ..and so on ..im only mentioning the controller adapter n tablet n phone only cause those would most likely be around 150 bucks....cause that rumor has me thinking ..nx for 150 bucks july 2016 lol it better be that hybrid console!
