If that's how he's entertaining children, I would consider that pretty sickening and if I was a parent to a child watching such a video, would be beyond pissed off that a "children's entertainer" would consider that a good idea to joke about such a thing.

I live in Sweden and I don't know who he is and don't care. I'm an old fashioned gamer, I have Facebook, but "only at home" and rarely log in. Use my cellphone to call and message and yeah, google stuff when needed, access my bank account, maps, and so on...only the good features of the new mobile era...social media life is not of interest for me.

I write in forums like this one that are focused in a subject I care about rather than fighting about religion, politics, racism and do not what else in FB, instagram and others...there everybody are perfect parents, parterns, friends...lovely people that laughs at bizarre videos and the only care is about what the other think about them...here at least we accept we are a bunch of nerds that love VG LOL

Depending on the kind of video you want to do, you're either doing live commentary or post commentary. This is very important for the editing process.

Live commentary is harder to do as you're doing it because multitasking on trying to be entertaining while playing the game can be a challenge. Editing live commentary means it's much easier to sync up your voice with what's happening in the game in the video, especially if you've been careful about how you record. The drawback is that you have no control over outside interruptions causing problems for your recording.

Post commentary makes it easier for you to actually be entertaining, and you have more control over the overall quality of your recording because all you've done was first record gameplay, then record yourself talking about the game or whatever. If you're speaking about the game, post commentary is a pain to sync up, if you're not talking about the game then it doesn't matter.

There's also the method in which you record your voice. If you care about the quality of your video, you're recording your voice separately so you can edit the sound independent of the video. This means noise removal, making sure the levels are right, if doing post commentary then re-recording what works, and removing what doesn't. Editing out coughs and other such noises, etc... It's very time consuming if you actually give a damn about the quality of your work.

Then there are the effects if you want to use any. Various cuts, transitions, pics, effects, etc... All requiring your full attention for timing and proper implementation.

If you actually care about what you're doing, then you didn't go to your local Best Buy, buy the cheapest webcam you can find, record some live commentary, and just do a couple of cuts and call it a day. To try and diminish it to that is insulting to people who actually work hard at it, and shows a marked level of complete ignorance.

To the people who say there is more to his video never actually edited a video or put any work into it. I made AMVs and a couple wedding videos some involving multiple videos files and episodes of my favorite anime series which involve multiple episode spanning across multiple seasons. I don't really care for the guy but there is this funny thing I found awhile ago, There is a contested quote by Socrates where he said, "The children now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise."

The argument that the younger generation are forsaking tradition and respect, basically "screwing up a generation", is ancient. All the way back to the time of antiquity, if not earlier, and has long existed before Pewdiepie showed up a few years ago.

I feel it should be stated that we really aren't all powerful voices, and we can't rightly condemn a generation based on the perceived morals and foundation established in the last. I feel it is a natural process of what elements the last generation passes on to the next, and isn't really something we can just peacefully force to be the way we want it, as there are far too many individual conscience at work, and far too many understandings of it. While you are firmly established in an intolerance of the forms of humor that this Youtuber applies, many of the younger generation may very easily perceive it as the satire it is, as the morals of what rape is are so strongly implanted into our culture that the extremeness quickly becomes comical to them, similar to how we gamers don't see violent video games as a cause of developing violent tendencies, but there are many of the previous generation who openly condemn it for that.

He's just a normal person making youtube videos with humor mostly targeted towards children or teens. Whether it is inappropriate, unfunny is subjective. I see loads of "haters" calling his fans autistic or fagets when they cannot see their own hypocrisy in making such comments.
I don't understand all the overwhelming exaggeration and negative judgement towards him as a person, he's a pretty charismatic person and successful youtuber who clearly provides towards charities and such.

I think that's the point and you hit the nail on the head. I'm not a fan but his videos clearly resonates resonates with a lot of people, it's their clicks and views that get him money. The market has spoken and people love what he does.

Again, I don't see the appeal, but I also think a lot of the bile he gets comes down to jealousy in terms of how he got in on YT early and found his niche.

Jealous people. I'd love to be in his position. And for those trying to find an excuse to say they aren't jealous, stop. Either you rally wish you had the money or you're jealous he has success in life while you don't. People saying they never really gave money much importance are people that always had enough. I grew up broke in a country outside of where I was born. I didn't grow up at all in my country or birth but it meant that my mom sure did and she worked by herself cleaning houses, giving out cards to get her name out and get jobs. She went to meetings, churches and more just to give out her card in hopes of someone hiring her. She barely knew English but she hustled. We had shitty cars that would break down and had no money to fix it. Or we'd get fucked over. I barely had clothes let alone toys as a kid. I was jealous of people with Pokémon cards, Game Boys, PlayStation, etc. She worked hard for years and even lived at other people's homes until she could afford a shitty apartment. My mom would have killed to be in his position. I would find her crying alone sometimes. I later added 2 and 2 and now know she didn't know if we'd be homeless the next day. Or have food on the table. She openly tells me her stories while I was just an innocent young kid. So yeah, sorry you lived a privileged life and don't give money importance. Money to us is how we survived in this world of capitalism. Where even basic world resources are sold to us like we don't all come from the same planet. Yeah 7 million? I'd take that to play games and get companies to send me free things to try and play.

Don't tell me that It's so hard to record a let's play. You start the game and a camera which films your f**** face. Editing takes maybe five minutes.

Pewdiepie is awful unfunny and possibly the most unbearable youtuber I have ever encountered (chris chan is more watchable) but his audience is far worse. He disabled comments on his videos because his OWN FANS (not his detractors) were so obnoxious and insufferable.

It won't last long and here's why. He suffers from teen idol syndrome. His main fans and the ones who give him the most views are children. Once they grow up they'll be over it and move on. Unless he's lucky and the next generation of children discover his videos, but each generation has it's own thing. It's rare that young people like what previous generations liked, at least at a level that turns it once again into a phenomenon.
