Final Fantasy VII Remake Winter Update Includes Official Title, Other Details in Planning

The Final Fantasy VII Remake announcement has come and gone, and our next update is coming in the winter. We don’t know what that update will include, but we at least know the game’s title might be announced.

this remake cannot be as rich because the original was immense, but i expect a brand new approach to the gameplay and more focus on Zack backstory as a future DLC (kind of Crisis Core remake as well).
I think fights will be action based like FFXV, but at least they gotta keep the materias!
mini games in Gold Saucer might be cut off, and maybe also Don Corleone's quest (i don't hope so lol).

I agree and I believe that this remake (reboot) should be more than just prettier graphics. I think it will take a more serious tone like Advent Children did but still be basically the same story. And I know I will probably get flamed for saying that but so be it. But I just don't think the more sillier (funny) moments of the original will fit will in with this serious looking world (but I hope they keep as much as they can).

Saying that, I think I will now check out the FFVII PS4 version of the original when it finally comes out (even though I still have the original PS1 version). I wasn't interested in it before but now I am (for some strange reason). I believe that was their goal all along and, curses, it worked :)

It's going to be interesting to see how much changes and not just visually. Will there be a world map? Atb combat close to FF13 or updated to 15? Will all the parts that slid by back then (nude hot tub, cross dressing, the undies) still be there? And how much voice acting will affect the story, will it make it better or would the characters being close to how they were intended make ff7 fanboys cry like they did with Advent Children? Going to be a really interesting development and square is going to get hammer by trolls when they change even the slightest thing.

Everything better be back, hacking what made the game stick with the minds of the audience is a huge mistake. For example...I better be getting my 15 hours of chocobo breading, but expand on it like the Kentucky Derby? Now that would be sweet.

Even though people disagree with you, I think everyone should be able to experience this game. No matter what console you have, just fanboys want to keep it all to themselves. This game needs to be loved by everyone, just like in 1997.

Everyone knew of that game or played it, even when they didn't have a PlayStation. Just like Goldeneye or Smash Bros back then...or Mario 64 for example.

With the culture change in gaming, I don't think people spend as much time in the same room as they did in the past.

I hope they haven't shot themselves in the foot by making the trailer so dark and serious in tone. The other Final Fantasy remakes included everything, but the tone of this remake makes me think they mightn't be able to find a way to make certain things fit - things like Cloud cross-dressing and the Golden Saucer.

Honestly, I would have preferred a remake that had pre-rendered, fixed camera angled backdrops like the original, only built from scratch with more detail and more moving parts; field character models like the DS games, battle character models like Crisis Core or Dissidia (with the same battle system as the original), a remastered soundtrack with the option of having the original, a world map, and everything from the original intact plus some extra stuff like new secrets and allusions to the spin-offs (and maybe even the sequel).

That's why I'm glad that many of the original key developers are involved with this. That gives me hope that it will basically be the same game that everyone fell in love with. But I can definitely see them doing away with the 'sillier' moments from the original. But they may just update those moments while still keeping a light-hearted (but more serious) tone to them.

I hope they just still keep it fun to play and not have Cloud and the rest of the gang totally emo all of the friggin' time.

It's hard to tell how serious the game will be based off a brief video showing Midgar though. The slums are a dark and murky place filled with pollution, poverty, illness and prostitution. So it makes sense that it will look dark and serious. A trailer showing the Gold Saucer or Icicle Inn might have looked different.

Hopefully Square won't get rid of too much humor from the original game. Part of it's charm was how silly and outlandish certain parts of the game were.

Well the trailer is definitely reminiscent of Advent Children, and that was a dour film if there ever was one. It's just hard to imagine a game with the tone of that trailer containing any wacky stuff. I mean, could you imagine Cloud cross dressing or bathing in a hot tub with a bunch of sexually predatory muscle men in Advent Children? It's very hard to imaginatively fit something like that into a film like Advent Children.

One thing that hasn't been preserved in the Compilation of VII is the cartoony-ness of the original game. Because they've cast that off, it's been very hard for any of the various spin-offs to have zane-brain stuff like VII had.
